[23369] MAIDEN NAME: Listed as a surviving daughter, Elizabeth Ann Foor and husband Douglas, in the obituary of George Marion Cowley, Sr., born 1921 in KS died July 6, 2008 in OK. Obituary was in the The Sun, Midwest City, OK. Also listed were several eight grandchildren, and three of the names matched the children shown here for Elizabeth.

In Memory of
Elizabeth Ann Foor
December 8, 1948 - March 26, 2014
Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Foor lost her battle to cancer March 26, 2014 in Oklahoma City. Elizabeth 'Liz' was born December 8, 1948 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. She grew up in Wichita, Kansas attending Arkansas Avenue Elementary School; and in Midwest and Del City, Oklahoma where she met Douglas Foor. They fell in love and were married in 1965 in Del City. Together they traveled and lived in Illinois, Guam, San Antonio, Wichita, and settled back in Oklahoma.
Liz was a loving mother of three children and devoted her life to raising them. While in Wichita Liz became a hair stylist, a profession she enjoyed for over twenty years making lifelong friends along the way. During the warmer months Liz took to gardening, a pastime she looked forward to each year. She was also accomplished at crocheting and loved anything that included crafts. Occasionally, Liz also enjoyed camping and fishing. But most of all Liz loved spending time with her friends and family.
Holidays were an important part of Liz's life. Her children have many fond memories of the loving effort that went into making every occasion special. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. The familiar scent of a freshly baked cake was commonplace this time of year, along with festive decorations.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents George (Marion) and Doris (Bert) Cowley. Liz leaves behind husband Douglas H Foor; sister Orlena Lucille Riffe; brother George Cowley Jr.; daughters Laura Nutter, and Cheryl Myers; and son Douglas E Foor. She was blessed to have ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as many loved ones and dear friends.
A viewing will be held Monday, March 31st from 9am until 8pm as well as Tuesday from 8am until 8pm at Bill Eisenhower Northeast Funeral Home in Midwest City, OK. A service and interment will be held Saturday, April 5th at 2pm at Lakeview Funeral Home and Cemetery in Wichita, KS.

"Mr. Dove's English ancestors emigrated to Virginia in the colonial period of our history. In Rockingham County of that state was born Henry Dove on February 7, 1765. He married Susannah Hoffman, who was born in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, June 26, 1777."
"The grandfather of Mr. Dove, Elijah Dove, was born in Fairfield County,
Ohio, July 27, 1811, where he spent most of his life and raised his family.
In later years he went to Illinois and spent the rest of his life in that
state. He died at Shelbyville, Illinois, in 1906. Elijah Dove had two
brothers, Ruben Dove, whose home was in Winchester, Ohio, and Jacob Dove of
Warsaw, Indiana. There were five sisters, namely: Laney Dove (Montgomery),
Peggy Dove (Orwic), Mary Dove (Hummel), Annie Dove (Benadnur), all of
Winchester, Ohio, and Elizabeth Dove (Kistler) of Warsaw, Indiana. The wife
of Elijah Dove, Anna Mary Small, was born in York, Pennsylvania, March 18,
1814. She was a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Louchs) Small, both of whom
were born in York County, Pennsylvania, John Small on September 16, 1781, and
Elizabeth Louchs on January 16, 1794. The Louchs family were French
Huguenots. Mrs. Anna Mary (Small) Dove had four brothers, Israel, John, Jacob
and Aaron, and four sisters, Lucy, Tarcy, Cordelia and Caroline, all of
Shelbyville, Illinois. Elijah and Anna Mary (Small) Dove had a large family
of thirteen children." A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans, written and
compiled by William E. Connelley, Secretary of the Kansas State Historical
Society, Topeka. Chicago: Lewis Publishing Company, copyright 1918; transcribed 1979.

"Mrs. Rogers' maternal grandfather, Henry Dove, was born in Virginia and died in Fairfield County, Ohio, aged nearly 100 years. He was blind and confined to his bed nine years previous to his death. Her grandfather Dove was twice married." [Kosciusko Co., Indiana Biographical and Historical Record, 1887, Lewis Publishing, Chicago, p 274.]

"Mr. [Samuel E.] Dove was born in Shelby County, Illinois, January 17, 1876. He is of Virginia colonial ancestry, his paternal ancestors having come out from England. His great-grandfather, Henry Dove, was born in Virginia and in pioneer times with his small stock of money and goods crossed the mountains and homesteaded at Carroll in Fairfield Co., Ohio. He died at Carroll in 1876. Elijah Dove, grandfather of the Hunley Banker [Samuel E. Dove] was born in Carroll, Ohio, in 1811 and spent all his life on the farm originally taken up and cleared by his father. Three years before his death he moved to Shelbyville, Illinois, and died there in 1896. His wife was Mary Small. She was born in Carroll, Ohio, and died there in 1876. W. L. Dove, father of Samuel E., was born in Ohio in 1843 and when a young man went to Shelby Co., Illinois. He married in that county and spent the rest of his life as a farmer. He died in 1886. Politically he was an independent and was a member of the United Brethren Church and one of the local preachers of that denomination. W. L. Dove married Eliza A. Warner who was born in Shelby Co., IL in 1853 and died there in 1886, the same year as her husband. Source Information: Ancestry.com. Montana History and Biography [database

"John Hummell... married Mary Dove, a daughter of Henry Dove, who came from Rockingham county, Virginia, in 1803, and entered land in Bloom township. The tract is still in possession of representatives of the name. He lived to the advanced age of 91 years, three months and eight days, passing away in 1856. Mrs. Dove's daughter was born in Bloom township and was one of seven children: Peggy, who became Mrs. Orwig; Ruben; Jacob; Sallie; Elizabeth, who became the wife of Solomon Kistler and died in Kosciusko county, Indiana; Elijah, who owned the old homestead, which for 99 years has been in the family and is now owned by his son, Edward, who lives in Kansas; Mary, now Mrs. Hummell; and Mrs. Laney Montgomery, of Fremont, Sandusky co., Ohio." "A Biographical Record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio, S. J. Clarke Pub., Co., 1902, p 142.

"Among the pioneers of Ohio who were active in its early development was the Dove family, of whom Henry Dove, the grandfather of our subject [Theodore] was the head. He was born in Rockingham Co., VA., Feb. 7, 1765, coming of one of the old Colonial families of that state, and there he grew to manhood and married, taking as his wife Mary Magdalina Altarfer, who was born in the Old Dominion, Jan. 1, 1775, the date of her birth. Grandfather Dove lived in his native State until 1804, and he then took his wife and the five children that had been born to them across the border into Ohio, making the journey over the mountains and through the intervening rough country with pack horses, and there founded a new home in the primeval forests of Fairfield County, of which he was one of the earliest settlers. He had previously visited that locality in search of a suitable location, journeying on horseback and carrying his silver for the purchase of land in his saddle bags. He invested in a tract of heavily wooded land in what is now Bloom township, paying therefor at the rate of $2.50 an acre. There was a log cabin on the land, in which the father of our subject was subsequently born. His father replaced it after a few years by a more substantial hewn log house, 20x30 feet in dimensions, which is still standing and is used as a dwelling. For many years there were no markets for produce nearer than Cincinnati, and consequently stock was very cheap, and horses, cattle and hogs were driven to Baltimore to be disposed of. The highest priced horses would bring but $40 at Fairfield, large hogs sold there for $1 and steers were sold from $6 to $8 each. The people raised their own food, varying the fare occasionally by a hauncy of venison or bear meat, or wild turkey, for all kinds of game then abounded. By years of faithful toil the grandfather cleared the farm, on which he passed his closing years serenly, dying at a good old age in 1856. His wife preceded him in death many years, dying in 1817. She was a notable housewife, was expert in spinning and weaving, and clad her children in garments of homespun. [Ancestry.com. History of Caldwell and Livingston County, Missouri; St. Louis: National
Historical Co.; 1886; p 747. [info supplied by an individual via email from
a look-up service, and she writes/quotes the following] "The Case of Rev. J.
E. Gardner" "One of the 20 men who voted for Lincoln in Livingston county,
at the Presidential election in 1860 was Rev. J. E. Gardner, a minister of
the M. E. Church, who some time previously had been sent into this county,
and who had located at Utica. "Northern Methodists" as they are sometimes
called, were few in number and in bad odor at that day in Missouri...A few
weeks after the election he was presented with the following: December 20,
1860. Mr. Gardner--Sir:--At a meeting of the citizens of Livingston Co, MO,
it was unanimously resolved that notice be given you that your longer
residence in our county is not desired by our citizens and that you be
required to leave this county within three days from this date. (signed) by
37 men, including J. F. Foor and G. P. Foor. "It is worthy of note that some
of the signers afterwards became themselves strong anti-slavery men, and were
regarded as truly loyal during the Civil War."
Other meetings were held and eventually violence broke out with Rev. G.
being beaten and "rail-ridden" with a resultant discussion of lawsuit by him
against the mob. No further conclusion listed in the book, and no mention
of individual names.

"Early in the race, Penns Valley's Cassie Niebel was just off the lead, but it was Kendra Foor who made the big surge. The senior finished sixth in 20:54, knocking eight seconds off her personal best from last year's district meet and 30 seconds better than her time in the MAC race.

'Kendra ran the race of her life,' Scott Brooker said. 'She really led our team.' [Centredaily.com, State College, PA, Oct. 31, 2004]

She is mentioned in the below text. If you figure dates of birth and death from the possible birth date of Dec. 6, 1839 (add 5y 24d it works out to her dying abt Oct. 30 1841. If you figured the date of birth using the date of death listed in the cemetery book -- Oct. 31, 1843 -- it works out to her being born in 1838. It is most likely that she was born in 1839 and died in 1841 as the following text shows:
