Alvin S. Foor is listed as a "guardian" in Wyatt Harris's pension files. "Ohio Marriages, 1803-1900" shows that Wyatt Harris married Amanda Stevenson in 1874 in Henry Co., OH. Amanda is shown as a widow who filed for his pension in 1889 from Ohio, and Alvin applied in Feb of 1896 from Ohio. Why is Alvin S. Foor listed as a minor and "guardian"? Where is the relationship? Wyatt Harris enlisted 1 Nov 1864 at 26y into Company E., 67th Inf. Ohio. Other info shows he was in company K and moved to Company E on 1 Sep 1865.

"Jacob Weidler was born June 2, 1863, to Johann Jakob Weidler and Katharine Ruth Weidler in Badenweiler, near Zweibrueken, Germany. His father was a shepherd, watching over the flocks of sheep on the mountain slopes along the Rhine River. In the fall of 1881, at the age of 18, Jacob left his family and came to America to seek a better life. His aunt, Mrs. Henry Dauber and her husband had, some years earlier, left Germany and had come to Malinta, Ohio, where they owned and operated a sawmill. Mrs. Dauber had sent the money for the ticket from La Havre, France, to New York City and also the train ticket from New York City to Napoleon, Ohio. Jacob worked in the sawmill for 50 cents a day; slept in quarters with the other mill-hands. He paid back the ticket money and saved so the rest of the family could come to America. In 1883 his brother Daniel Weidler came with his sister Catharine; in 1885 his father and mother and two younger sisters -- Margaret and Louise -- arrived. The oldest sister, Elizabeth, remained in Germany to marry a young businessman, Philip Obenauer. In 1885 Jacob Weidler heard that his Uncle Henry Dauber, who had been divorced from his wife for several years, had settled on a farm in Adams Co., Indiana. By train he went from Napoleon, Ohio, to Bluffton, Indiana. After inquiring about Henry Dauber, he continued on foot to the log house of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dauber. He also met the 16 year old daughter of Mrs. Dauber, Catharine Gruessbaum. Two years later, after a proper courtship, Jacob and Catharine were married on October 20, 1887.
Jacob and Catharine purchased 20 acres from Henry Dauber and began building a log house of hand-hewn logs of ash, poplar, and oak. Tress were plentiful at the time -- almost more wood than cleared land. A mixture of clay and straw was filled-in between the logs as insulation against heat and cold. In this log house seven more children were born. The family were members of St. Luke Reformed Church. In 1898 Henry Dauber died after an extended illness. Now Jacob bought the 60 acres that had belonged to Mr. Dauber. [
