Well, I am still among the living and feeling fine. I could not feel better if I was a preachers son Ha Ha. I was up to Chillicothe yesterday for the first, I was taken up to identify a Paulding county boy that died the camp is still under quarantine but think it will maby be off by Sunday I hope so for we can go around a little you wanted to know if that disease was very contageous. I should say so they say that they run this mail through a process to kill all the jerms. I suppose they heat it and my vaccination is almost all right it still has a scab on it but it doesn't hurt it was to bad Flossie did not get to come home with you Sat. eve. So Sylvia is ---ing [or?] [Liz?] [home?] is she suppose [?] [?] smart ha ha. I [don't?] know [who?] the Catholic Y. M. [can't
read this] find out and ... I will try and find that.... "I would like to ...

Letter dated October 24, 1918 "Dear Bro Sister and boys. here I am feeling
fine I got the box and I have it all eat up but the candy have some of it yet. Say the eats was sure fine that cake all the boys thought it fine and it sure was it had the frosting on it all right I eat the last of it this eve. I thank you ever so much got a letter from mum saying that she would like for me to answer some of her questions. I got to write so much that I have not time to read the letters over and see what questions were asked so that is the reason I do not answer them but will try and do better from now on I suppose I had ought to have been stingy with that cake I eat more than half of it but had to give the boys some for they are good to me. I was going to ask some time ago if any of you had a service flag up for me that is the way to get after mum and maer her do such things as that ha ha. Well I do not know about comming back but doubt it if I get back till after the war now sence this transfer i up the bunch of us went and took our transfer examination today and told us not to
leave the company and to stay around our tents not to leave th etne tmuch over
5 min at a time so we may be called out any time. I do not care so much for
they do not feed as good as other places the stuff they have would be all right
if they knew how to cook well I must be close I am fine Hope you are the same,

OBIT: Elmer Hallard of Latty Succumbs. Paulding - Elmer Hallard, 56, RFD 1, Latty, died Wednesday at his home in Latty after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife Flossie, one brother, Carl, of Haviland, and one sister, Mrs. William Huebner, also of Latty. Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Crowell Funeral Home in Paulding, and will be in charge of the Eagles Lodge of Paulding. Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery, southwest of Paulding. [Van Wert Times Bulletin, Van Wert, Ohio, April 2, 1953]
