CARROLL: Lois Jean McCormick, age 75, of Carroll, Ohio was born March 5, 1936 in Plymouth, West Virginia. She went home to be with her Lord on June 8, 2011 after a long, courageous fight against cancer.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John McCormick; sons, Timothy (Belinda) McCormick and Thomas (Jacquie) McCormick, Baltimore and Brad (Judy) McCormick, Carroll; her much-loved grandchildren, Krista (Kyle) Trent, Jake McCormick, Josh McCormick, J.J. McCormick, Kayleigh McCormick, Drew McCormick, Jessica McCormick, Katie McCormick and Luke McCormick; also survived by brothers, Dick (Linda) Burnem, Marietta, GA., Joe (JoAnn) Burnem, Charleston, WV; sister, Patsy (Lawrence) Nelson, Charleston, WV; many nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends. Preceded in death by parents, Guy and Mary (Lockman) Burnem; infant grandson, Matthew McComick (son of Brad and Judy McCormick); brother, Gary "Butch" Burnem and half-brother Ralph Stanley.

Member of Fairfield Christian Church, North Campus. Lois loved spending time with her family and traveling with her husband. She also had a great love of animals.

Friends may visit Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110. Funeral service and celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Fairfield Christian Church, North Campus, 3420 Blacklick-Eastern Rd., Baltimore, Ohio 43105 where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday. 1899 - March 8th issue. Mr. and Mrs. John Courtright, aged 77 and 82 years,
celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in Lithopolis. Abraham V.
Courtright, father of John, settled in Fairfield County in 1802 and named
Bloom township after his birthplace in Pennsylvania. John's mother was
Elizabeth McFarland, daughter of Fairfield County pioneer, William McFarland.
John was born in April 1817 into a family of 7 children, only 2 of whom
survive. On march 5, 1840, John married Anna Morehart. Two sons, Hercules
and Christian Courtright live in Shelbyville, Illinois, a daughter, Mrs. Dr.
H. E. Bent lives in Mentone, Indiana, and another daughter, Mrs. J. L.

"Abraham Crider, farmer and county commissioner, P. O. Lima, was born in Pickaway Co., Ohio, Oct. 19, 1828, son of Ephraim and Mary (Dunkle) Crider, former born Dec. 25, 1805, died in 1880. Ephraim Crider was a son of Abraham and Sophia (Larick) Crider who settled in Pickaway County in 1814, and were the parents of Sophia (Married to Andrew Thompson and who died, leaving a family in Wyandot County, Ohio), David (deceased, left family in Ross County, Ohio), Sally, wife of Timothy Spangler (died leaving a family in Pickaway County, Ohio), Ephraim, father of our subject; Amelia, the only one living of the family, married to a Mr. Howell, who died leaving a family in Ross County, Ohio; and George (deceased, left family near Adelphi, Ohio). The children of Ephraim and Mary Crider were ten in number: Isaac (residing near Howard, Kans.); Eliza (died, aged six years); Abraham; Hannah, wife of Jacob Darst, in Auglaize County, Ohio; Maria, wife of Alexander Shaw, of Cridersville, Ohio; Leanna, wife of Allen Spiker, in Cridersville, Ohio; Reuben, in Auglaize County, Ohio; Susan, (deceased wife of John Reichelderfer, who lives in Auglaize County, Ohio); Ephraim (deceased, aged two years); and John J., in Cridersville, Ohio. Ephraim Crider came to Auglaize county in 1854, and in 1855 laid out the town of Cridersville. The subject of this sketch received a limited schooling, but studied late at nights by fire-light. He remained with his father until his marriage, September 26, 1852, with Mary Garling, who was born June 11, 1828, in Fairfield Co., Ohio, daughter of John and Catharine (Hummel) Garling, natives of Pennsylvania, who came to Fairfield vounty, Ohio, in the winter of 1824. John Garling was a son of Frederick Garling, and died in 1872, aged 82 years; his widow died in 1884, aged 83, she was a daughter of Frederick and Hannah (Stein) Hummel, natives of Pennsylvania, but early settlers of Ohio. The children of John and Catherine Garline were Jeremiah, Solomon and William, in Logan County, Ohio; Daniel, in Hardin County, Ohio; Mary and John, in Columbus County [sic], Ohio. History of Allen County, Ohio. Chicago: Wamer i.e. Warner, Beers & Co., 1885, p 790.

"ABRAHAM CRIDER was born in Pickaway County in 1828, and his wife, Mary (Garling) Crider, was born in the same year, in Fairfield County. Names of their children--John Franklin, Francis Ephraim, George W. and Wm. Edward, Lena Catharine, Flora C., Mary Adeline, Maggie M. and Hattie Vantalia. Mr. Crider's parents, Ephraim and Mary M., are living in Auglaize County. They have eight children--Isaac, Abraham, Hannah, Maria, Reuben, Leanna, Susan and John. Mrs. Crider is a daughter of John and Catharine Garling, and is one of a family of six children--Jeremiah, Solomon, William, Daniel, Mary, and John J. It was carefully avoided in the farming and the headstone was carefully braced to keep it from falling over. Only one grave could be located'"

Leonard Melvin Foor, 60, of Williamsport passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 27, 2015 at Manor Care North.

He was born June 1, 1954 in Williamsport, a son of Melvin R. and Helen P. (Snyder) Foor.
Leonard attended Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed playing guitar and being with family.

Leonard is survived by a son, Jason A. Foor and a daughter Jodie L. Schon both of Williamsport; two grandchildren, Serenity and Caelen Schon; two brothers, Larry (Mary) Foor of Westfield and Karl (Carol Reaser) Foor of Williamsport; a sister, Linda (Richard) Grove of Marietta, GA., also a niece, Dr. Katherine Foor.

Relatives and friends are invited to Leonard’s Life Celebration service 2pm on Monday, March 30, 2015 at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd. “A Life Celebration Home” 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport with Pastor John C. Staje, Jr. officiating.

A visitation will be held from 1-2pm. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery.

"Oakville Woman Passes Away at Daughter's Home - Oakville, IA., March 25 -- Mrs. Elizabeth Biggs passed away Wednesday morning at Wapello at the home of Mrs. Wm. Fitzgibbon, her daughter. Death was caused by neuralgia of the heart. Mrs. Biggs was the widow of John Biggs. She will be remembered as Elizabeth Foor. She was born in Bedford Co., PA., Sept. 16, 1843, and married to John Biggs who preceeded her in death 40 years. They were the parents of five daughters and two sons. [Those?] of whom survive are: Mrs. Win. Fitzgibbon, Mrs. Millard Hicklin, Mrs. Norman Marshall, and Mrs. [article cut off at right] ____ Bishop, all of Wapello. Funeral services will be held from the Fitzgibbon home Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. O. E. McBride. Interment in Wapello cemetery. A very pretty wedding took place on Wednesday morning April 29 at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Grubb in West Providence township, when her daughter Miss Anna B. Grubb was happily married to Mr. Harry H. Foor, of East Providence township. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. F. Weise, pastor of the Breezewood Methodist church in the presence of many guests. He was born June 13, 1923 in Columbus the son of the late Phillip Earl and Mabel (Rhoades) Heffner. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia E. (Rinehart) Heffner; son, Gary (Sue) Heffner of Rushville, Ohio; daughters, Gail (Jos) Charles of Pataskala and Gwen (Robert) Ruffner of Irvine, Kentucky. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo Street, Canal Winchester, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with one hour prior visitation at David Evangelical Lutheran Church, 300 Groveport Road, Canal Winchester, with Pastor Roger Lawrence and Pastor Lee Gard officiating. OBIT: "Little Ethelyn Marie Hoy, daughter of Isaac Hoy and wife, died Mch. 4th, 1893, aged 1 year 2 months and 4 days. Her sufferings were but for three brief days, so soon the fatal disease did its work. Scarlet fever and pnemonia were the fatal destroyers. Marie was beautiful and of a sweet disposition, a perfect picture of innocence. The funeral services were held at the Bloom Chapel Evangelical Church, Monday, March 6th, conduected by Rev. E. D. 1930 - his sister Katie's obit: Funeral services for Christina Catherine Kuhlwein, aged 64, a lifelong resident of Harrison twp., who died Saturday at the home of her brother, Edward, were held at the Lockbourne Lutheran church Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. H. H. Glick officiating. Burial was in Fernwood cemetery by E. F. Schlegal of Ashville. The death of Miss Kuhlwein was caused by cerebral apoplexy. She was born in Harrison-twp., Jan. 18, 1866, the daughter of George Leonard and Anna Marie Acker Kuhlwein. She is survived by three brothers, G. L., Edward, and Fred, all of Harrison-twp. "...married... Susan DECKER, to whom he was married in Hampshire co., VA, in 1811, or 1812, in which year he brought her to Ohio to begin a pioneer's life. He first came to Ohio in 1806. He bought 320 acres of land in section 28, Madison twp., on which he built a log cabin, and made a clearing of 20-30 acres. The first year of his arrival he spent with his brother, William Millar, in Harrison twp., by whom his land in Madison was first entered. "History of Franklin and Pickaway Counties, Ohio", Williams Bros., 1880, p 357.

The first child born to Isaac Millar and his wife was Rebecca, in 1813. She married WIlliam Short, and moved to Illinois, where she died. John D. was the second child. He married Ann Amelia Jones, and died in Harrison. The following named children came after: Jacob, Michael, Susan, Sarah, Franklin--the three latter being deceased; Hannah became the wife of George W. Brown, of Pennyslvania, and Elizabeth married Jesse Musselman, and lives in Harrison Township", "History of Franklin and Pickaway Counties, Ohio", Williams Bros., 1880, p 357.

"FRANKLIN MILLAR. The late Franklin Millar, whose death occurred March .15, 1878, was for 50 years a resident of Madison township where he was born January 1828, being a son of Isaac and Susan (Decker) Millar.

Isaac Millar was born in Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia), and in 18o6 came to Ohio, settling on a section of land in Madison township, Pickaway County. He accumulated considerable property during his life and at one time owned 1,800 acres of land in Madison and Harrison townships. In 1815 he built and operated a small distillery and corn mill. He brought the first threshing machine and the first reaper into Madison township where the greater part of his life was spent. In 1812 he married Susan Decker, also a native of Virginia and to them were born nine children, as follows: Rebecca, John D., Jacob, Michael, Susan, Sarah, Franklin, Hannah and Elizabeth, all of whom are deceased but Hannah (wife of George W. Brown) and Elizabeth (widow of Jesse Musselman). Isaac Millar died at the home of his (laughter, Mrs. Musselman, July 15, 1883. OBIT: Sad indeed is the condition of affairs at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Rawn, 710 Albert street, owing to the fact that their youngest daughter, May W. Rawn, passed away last night, at 11 o'clock, after an illness of 12 days with typhoid fever, and another daughter, Miss Edith, is at death's door with the same disease. Miss May, deceased, was born at Ottowa, August 24, 1893, being but 13 years and 25 days old at death. The parents, two sisters and one brother survive. The funeral services will be held Friday monring at 10 o'clock at the S. S. Baptist church, Rev. Rupe officiating and interment will be made in Woodlawn cemetery. Walter R. Woy, a highly respected citizen of West Providence Twp., died at his home, Everett R. D. 2, Wednesday afternoon, March 16, following a lingering illness. Mr. Woy was born in the township in which he died, April 11, 1884, and was one of the communities progressive farmers. His parents, Ezekiel and Laura B. (Foor) Woy, preceded him in death. He was united in marriage with Lula Armentrout, who survives. Also surviving are these brothers and sisters, McKinley and Arthur Woy, Everett, Hershel C. Woy, Everett, Pearl, wife of Jacob Sollenberger, and Lena, wife of Harvey Sollenberger, Everett, and Effie W. Heberlig of Steelton... largely attended funeral serices were held Saturday... interment was made in the family plot in the Everett Cem... [Bedford Gazette, Bedfod, PA, March 25, 1949]
