1937 - Miss Grace Foor and Earl Foor pleasantly entertained at dinner,
Sunday, in honor of the birthday anniversaries of Mrs. Orlo Brown and A. H.
Foor and the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Foor. [Logansport
Pharos Tribune, Logansport, IN., April 13, 1937]

1937 - 80 Year Old Man Injured -- Driver of Car That Struck Pedestrian Near Athens Held Blameless - Rochester - Alfred Foor, 80, residing one and one-half miles south of Athens, suffered a fractured left collar bone, broken left wrist and a fractured left ankle shortly after noon Tuesday when he was struck by an automobile driven by Ralph Bowers, 18, of near Athens. Bowers is held blameless. Mr. Foor had been talking to another motorist in front of his home and as that motorist drove away he started to cross the highway not noticing the Bowers machine approaching from the opposite direction to that of the first driver. Bowers was unable to see the aged man until he was within a few feet of him. The impact threw Mr. Foor against a fence. He was rushed to Woodlawn hospital where his fractures were reduced and then returned to his home. His condition is not critical but due to his advanced age physicians fear the fractures will prove serious. [Logansport Pharos Tribune, Logansport, IN., Oct. 27, 1937]

OBIT: Alfred H. FOOR, 73y, died at his farm home one-half mile south of Athens at 6:30 o'clock Tuesday morning from a coronary block of the heart. Mr. FOOR had been confined to his home since October 26 when he was struck by a car in front of his home driven by a neighbor. In the accident the aged man received fractures of the right wrist, left collarbone and ankle.
The deceased died on the same farm on which he was born 09 Apr 1865. His parents were William and Katherine FOOR. He had followed the occupation of farming throughout his lifetime.
In a ceremony which was performed in this city on Nov., 19, 1886, he was married to Jane OLDFATHER who preceded her husband in death. Mr. FOOR was a member of the Gleaner's Lodge at Athens.
Surviving are two sons and daughter, Earl FOOR, Clark FOOR and Grace FOOR all at home. A brother John W. FOOR who resides on a farm west of this city, and a grandson. The funeral arrangements had not been completed at the time The News-Sentinel went to press.
[Dec. 21, 1937, THE NEWS SENTINEL]

1937 - Funeral services for Alfred Foor who died Tuesday at his home one mile south of Athens were held Thursday afternoon at the residence, Rev. Daniel Slaybaugh, Akron, officiated and burial was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Akron. [Logansport Pharos Tribune, Logansport, IN., Dec. 23, 1937]

1937 - Fulton Coroner to Close Foor Case Probe. Rochester - No action will be taken against persons directly or indirectly responsible for the death of Alfred Foor, 73-year-old Athens resident, who was struck by a car last October 26 near his home, Coroner Dean Stimson of this city announced. The man died at his home Monday morning. Ralph Bowers, 18, son of a neighbor, ran the man down but was absolved of any blame. No action was taken against Mrs. Julia Coffing, solicitor, whose car was alleged to have been parked on the wrong side of the street. Mrs. Coffing was reported to have been talking to Foor and then drove away. The Bowers machine, swerving to avoid striking her car, hit Foor. It is possible, Stimson said, that foor may not have died as a result of the accident. No autopsy or inquest is likely to be held, however. [Logansport Press, Logansport, IN., Dec. 22, 1937]

DOD/POBurial: A tombstone transcription done by Charles Wagner in 1942 notes the following: S. Schoffstall, died Jan. 30, 1868, aged 84y 6m 26d. In the same latter mentioned book, the cemetery records show two Schoffstall's. One born 1799 died March 5, 1886, and the other 1783 to Jan. 30, 1868. With no first names, it's not guaranteed that these are the correct Schoffstall's; however, in matching census records it appears to be the same couple.
