1893 p 182 "He took a prominent part in town affairs and in the defence of the
town against the frequent attacks by the French and Indians, his son Asahel was
kileed in his 32d year by the Indians in an attach at Pochaug Hill on
15 Apr 1747. Many of Joseph's desc's remained at Northfield, and
others settled in NH and VT. In the Frend and Indian Wars and in the
Rev. War many of them took an active part in the field."
