Estate record for Simon in Clark Co V2, p 74.
A genealogy sent by Barbara ROPP of Urbana, Ohio, stayes that the records in
the Evangelical Reformed Church at Frederick, Maryland, list the following
births: to Simon and Sarah ROPP a girl named Maria Anna, b 17 Jan 1777; a dau named Catharine b nov 23, 1781; and a dau named Elizabeth b 15 Mar 1777.
(Barbara says, "notice the conflict in dates).
Shortly after these ch were born, this family moved to Loudoun Co VA, and
around 1810 moved to Catawba in Pleasant Twp. of Clark Co OH.
"History of Clark County, Ohio", 1881, Beers, states "Simon Ropp and David
WALTMAN came about 1820" to Pleasant Township, Clark County (p 660).
"Pleasant Township of Clark County, Ohio", by Mahlon Neer, 1975, states "David WALTMAN, Simon ROPP, Phillip and Thomas TUNKS came to the western part of the township from early times to 1820" (p 2).
Barbara states that both Simon ROPP and David WALTMAN appear on the 1820 census in Pleasant Twp of Clark Co OH, and "in the middle of the land surrounded by route 54, Broadgauge, McConkey and Arbogast Roads lies the Ropp Cemetery which was abandoned about the time of the Civil War. The only names appearing in this cemetery are Ropp, Waltman, Neer, and the single grave of John Grove, the son of Samuel Henry GROVE and Mary WALTMAN. This cemetery has not been maintained and some of the markers broken and scattered about. There are no roads leading back to this cemetery."
