_ DURFEY _ | |--Ezekial DURFEY | |_unknown _
[T867]
CENSUS: 1880 Crane/Paulding Co. OH (p 19, v 141/147) name is listed as Ezekial, age 51y, daus Nettie 9y and Emma 5y listed with him and wife Rebecca age 43y. Ezekial's parents are listed as: Father b NY, mother b VT. 1870 Crane/Paulding (p 18, V 142/133) his name is listed as Durfey, P. P. (probably transcribed wrong as I hurridly did this) age 43y. Wife is listed as Rebecca 33y, dau Cornitha 8y, son Edwin L. 5y. Both ch attending school. All listed born in OH.
Am not sure if the two census's listed above are for the same family. The
age's of the husband and wife are 10 yrs different in both census's leading me to believe they are the same family, BUT, children in the 1870 census are not listed in the 1880.
Living in Crane Twp in 1880 is the following family:
Durfey, Lauren age 28, born OH, parents both born OH
wife Frances J. age 23, born OH, fa b in CT, mother b OH
children: Dora 5y, Harry C. 4y, Ida N. 2y, Alma 8/12 born in Nov.
This above family may be another son of Ezekial (23 y age difference from
Ezekial and Lauren), but I believe he to be the son of Malissa b ca 1831 in OH. Malissa is listed in the 1870 census with no husband, children Loren 19 (b ca 1851) who works as clerk in dry goods store, Irene b ca 1855, Brice/Bruce (?) b ca 1859. All born OH. This Loren in the 1870 census could very well be the Lauren in the 1880 census as they are abt 10 yr apart.
I had hurridly gained this info from the census for my (step) grandpa, Lafe
Durfey. None should be used as documentation! Many Paulding Co. records are
available at Paulding Co. Library (including a marriage index that could be
extremely helpful), and at Lucas Co. Library (though not as much as at
Paulding's). More detailed information could quickly and easily be gained by
writing the probate court at Paulding Co. OH, and the health department there
also. Sometimes they will give you a list of all of a certain surname, and
then you can write and send appropriate fee (VERY small) to obtain copy of the
records you wish. Because this is not my lineage I will not do this kind of
documentation, but if the family (Deb Perry, Carol Hyttenhove) does gain such
mentioned info I will insert it into the computer.
Suggestion: need to obtain such information as obits, 1860 census's, look in
books for biographies of any DURFEY's (also seen spelled DURFEE), could easily
obtain many (undocumented) deaths and births by looking through PAULDING COUNTY
OHIO CEMETERY LISTINGS available at both Paulding and Lucas Co libraries.
You may want to speak to any remaining Durfey's, write for information to other
Durfey's still living in Paulding Co. as even if no known relationship
is known, undoubtedly they are somehow related. (This could lead to finding
lost relatives that no one knew they had).
