Never married. Did not have good health after falling from a roof in Grand
Rapids while fighting a fire. "At 6:45pm on March 25, 1940, fire struck the
[Isaac R. Ludwig] Mill a devastating blow. It is thought that a passing
locomotive blew a spark through an open roof hatch. The entire third and most
of the second storywas destroyed including the flour processing machinery.
More than 100 volunteers and firemen from Grand Rapids, Whitehouse, Waterville,
and Swanton battled the blaze for over four hours. Clare Noffsinger suffered a
broken back and ribs after falling from the ice-covered roof". "Grand Rapids,
