"In 1708 he and other inhabitants of Norwalk purchased a large tract of land
between that town and Danbury. The purchase was made of Catoonah the chief
sachem, and other Indians, who were the proprietors of that part of the
country. Deed bears date Sep 30, 1708. At the Norwlak town seesion, 1709, it
was ordained that it should be a distinct township by the name of Ridgefield.".
James was also one of the original settles of this township. In his yount he
lived with his grandmother, Mary Bridgum, wife of Thomas. The following
inscription is on his gravestone in Ridgefield. "Here lies interred the body of
James Benedict, Deacon of the first Church of Christ in this town; Together
with Sarah, his wife who, after having served their generation according to the
will of God, fell asleep and were gathered to their fathers the first on Nov 25
1762 in the 77th year of his age; the other, February ? 9th, 1767 in the 81st
year of her age.

David Pierce Kohn - is a son of Elihu L. and Elizabeth Kohn, residents of Paulding county, where they settled in 1853. David was born in Franklin county, Ohio, December 10, 1852; was eighteen months old when his parents located here. He was married in this county, January 21, 1874, to Lydia Ann, born in Randolph county, Indiana, April 3 1854, and daughter of James and Mary J. (Johnson) Noffsinger, settlers in this county in 1870; are now residents of this county. The family consists of Bertha j., born January 23, 1875; Mahlon W., April 13, 1870; Clyde E., August 7, 1880. Mr. Kohn's father was in the war; was discharged for disability and afterwards drafted and served one year. He has a farm of forty acres, twenty of it cleared. He and his family are all members of the Christian Church. Address, Gilbert's Mills, Paulding county, Ohio.
