OBIT: Mrs. Barbara Strayer was married in PA to Henry Strayer and shortly after came to OH and settled in Seneca Co. Two years later Mr. and Mrs. Strayer came to Providence township and entered upon 200 acres of land a mile and a half from the river directly north of the Rapids. This was sometime in the early 40's. The country was wild and unbroken. The Forests abounded in wild game, and Indians were still about the country. They bravely battled against the vissitudes of pioneer life, and here they reared their family and did their share to develop the country. The children born to this union were Jane who married Benjamin Cole, and is now deceased, Katherine who married Henry Keeler, Jacob, Emma who married John Wilson, John Adam, Mary and Anna, both deceased, and Linocln. They and one brother, Michael Ness and one sister Mrs. Amos Perry, survie the aged mother and sister, 29 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildre. Mr. Strayer died in 1879.
Mrs. Strayer was raised in the german Luntheran faith, and while whe was
deprived of her church connections she was a staunch supporter nevertheless of christian work. It was mainly through her efforts that the Mt. Pleasant church was organized, she contributed 100 dollars toward the building of the house. Her bible and catechism were her daily companions all through life.
After the death of her husband, Mrs. Strayer lived for many years of the land which had been her home. Some years ago her health began to fail, and she was taken care of by her children in her remaining years.
Funeral servies were held at Mt. Pleasant church, Wednesday, conducted by
Rev. W. M. Wilson, and the remains interred in the church cemetery."
