[10493] NAME/Maiden/Parentage/POB/DOD/DOB/SPOUSE/DAUS: "Cemeteries of Bloom Township, Fairfield County, OH", Fairfield Co., Ohio, Chapter OGS, 1996, p 256. NOK listed as Clarence E. Kramer, husband. Mrs. Theodore Huston and Mrs. John Alter, daughters. Nellie is shown as d/o Charles Andrews and Rosetta Harder.

Note that the maiden name for Nellie is listed as Andrews rather than Andrix.

NOTE: Info sent to me by C. Hesselbrock, Jan. 2007, via email:

From letter written by Nellie Kramer January 17, 1950:
"My mother's name was Rosetta Harder and she came from Indiana. Her father was killed in the Civil War when she was a little girl. My father was Charles Andrix and he came from Central College, Ohio. I never saw my people after I was about six years old. I lived with a family in Columbus, Ohio for four years then I went to the children's home and stayed 8 months. Dr. George S. Courtright took me to Lithopolis, Ohio to live with them. I lived there until I married Clarence Kramer. I was never legally adopted though they just called me Nellie Courtright."

According to the email sent to me, her name is often seen as Andrews, such as her death certificate and marriage license, but it was done knowingly so her real parents wouldn't locate her when she was taken from the orphanage.

Joseph Foor, our subject, was reared on this farm, but, his parents being in somewhat straightened circumstances, his educational advantages were very meager. On reaching maturity he married Sarah TOWER, who has borne him the following children: Mrs. Emma Murphy, William, Sarah A., Henry, Mary, Gustavus, John, Frank, Mrs. Ellie Douglass, Burt T., Jess I., George M. and Ollie G., who have all been fairly well educated. The father of this family came to Van Wert county when it was in a very wild condition, and bought forty acres of land to which he has added forty acres, and now has the prettiest farm of it's size in the county of Van Wert, all most excellently cultivated.", "A Portrait and Biographical Record of Mercer and Van Wert Counties, Ohio", A. W. Bowen and Co., 1896, p 185.

"Joseph Foor became mentally ill and died in the Toledo State Hospital on March 2, 1908, aged 71y 8m 22d. His wife, Sarah Lucy, died of tuberculosis at the family home on August 1, 1909, aged 69y 5m 3 d. The following may be a story about this Laura Foor:

"About Two years ago, Miss Laura Foor, who is now lying at the point of deat at Wapello, gave a tramp something to eat. He told her that he was no common tramp and that if ever the opportunity offered itself would pay her for her kindness. Nothing was thought of it until Thursday of last week, a man presented himself at the door and asked to see the lady mentioned. He was ushred into the room where the young lady lay sick and asked her if she recognized him. She answered in the affirmative, when he lad down a half dollar, and relating the circumstances of two years before to those present, asked them to never turn away empty a man asking for bread. He took his departure leaving behind him the impression that there is more manhood abroad in the land than most people think". Published under "the city in brief".
