_Stettler FOORE _________+ | |--Donald Stettler FOORE | |_Hazel Elizabeth GINTER _
NAME/PARENTAGE: Helen Bichel via snail mail, June 2001.
OBIT: Grande Prairie Daily Herald, Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada:
Date of Death: June 11th, 2003
Donald Stettler Foore passed peacefully from us June 11, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Don was born in Grande Prairie on January 5, 1933, the son of Stettler Foore and Hazel Elizabeth (Ginter) Foore Hamper and the little brother of Hazel Vivian Foore (now Hellerud). Don was predeceased by his Father Stet in 1988 and his Mother Hazel in 1993.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Marilynn Meldrum of Grande Prairie, his daughters Jan Foore (Dave Riley) of Calgary, Kim Foore (Lee Willis) of Houston, Texas, Cynthia Elliott (Gerry Elliott) of Calgary, son Vern Meldrum (Shelly Relling-Meldrum) of Edmonton, daughters Rhonda Rycroft (Jerald Rycroft) and Sharilyn Meldrum (Lance Angen) of Grande Prairie. Don also has eight grandchildren, whom he enjoyed spending time with and teasing. They are (from oldest to youngest) Daymen Rycroft, Mackenzie Rycroft, Brenin Rycroft, Robert Gray, Jerlynn Rycroft, Jayme Rycroft, Kacey Foore, Levi Relling-Meldrum and one more that is on the way from Shar and Lance.
Don grew up in the Bezanson and Grande Prairie area, going to grade school in Fitzsimmons and high school in Grande Prairie.
Don had a long and successful career in the oilpatch, beginning in the early 1950s. He worked for Rogers Exploration Services, Canadian Western Natural Gas, Chevron, his own company Lendon Services, Control Drilling, Woolley Tool Company, Husky Oil (managing foothills oilfield construction projects, in the area south of Grande Prairie and around Edson), his own company, Ponter Ventures, Renaissance Energy (where he established and ran a construction field office in Boyle, Alberta, supervising construction activities in N.E. Alberta) and finally his own company, Soil Profiles Inc.
Don was one of a few that came from the oilpatch's past that could do what he did with amazing efficiency and effectiveness. He was a good boss and many people were glad to work for and with him. Don made many good friends and was a good friend to many. He was a great Dad and Grandfather to all his kids and grandchildren. Most of all, he was a great husband and companion to Marilynn. Don is greatly loved and will be much missed by all of his friends and family.
A service celebrating Don's life and accomplishments will be held Friday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at Oliver's Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel. Friends and family are welcome to attend a viewing on Thursday evening at Oliver's Funeral Chapel, 10005-107 Avenue, Grande Prairie, between 8-9 p.m.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Don's honour to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alberta Diabetes Foundation.
