[11889] DOB: zabasearch.com; not confirmed.

Robert "Auggie" Oaks, 89, of 17911 Reservoir Road, Saegertown, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, days before his 90th birthday, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.

Auggie was born in Riddlesburg, on November 1, 1925, a son of the late Carl and Agnes (Conelly) Oaks.

On June 5, 1970, Auggie married Sylvia Sidney Foor; she survives.

He was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church.

After 40 years of service, Auggie retired in 1989 from Local #84, out of Kent, Ohio, where he worked as a Heat and Frost Insulator. A 1943 graduate of Defiance High School, Auggie enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 8, 1943, just one day following his graduation, making it necessary to lie about his age in order to be accepted. He served his country honorably as a torpedo man until his discharge on November 21, 1947. He served in the Asiatic Pacific as well as the American Theater and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Auggie loved Bedford County and hanging out at Tony's Bar in Riddlesburg. Over the years, he had been a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars both in Bedford and Crawford Counties. Auggie was always the life of the party, he had a wonderful personality and will always be remembered as being a jokester. He took great pride in being "silver" for over 35 years. Auggie loved the outdoors, whether he was mowing his yard, hunting or fishing. He loved his wife's cooking, especially her desserts. It could be said that Auggie not only had a "sweet tooth" but a full mouth of "sweet teeth." He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Sylvia of 45 years, Auggie is survived by four children, Karen Korodi and her husband Steve of Buffalo, N.Y., Eddie Oaks and his wife Liane of Otterburg, Germany, Carol Weed of Saegertown, and Debra Rumzie and her husband Jeff of Saegertown, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his spiritual brother, Larry "The Chili King" Miller and his wife Sharon of Saegertown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Auggie was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy McGraw, Rhoda Allen, and two brothers, Wayne Oaks and Carl Oaks, Jr.

A Celebration of Life Service and Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, with Rev. Darrell L. Greenawalt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saegertown United Methodist Church, PO Box 689, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, PA 16433.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, PA 16433.

[30282] John Dobson
Historical and Biographical Record of Black Hawk County, Iowa. Chicago:
Inter-State Pub. Co., 1886.

John Dobson, one of the pioneers of East Waterloo Township, was born on a farm in Ireland, January 8, 1810. At the age of twenty-two years he left his native country and immigrated to America landing at Quebec. He remained near Lake Champlain nearly four years, when he came to Ohio, locating in Fairfield County, where he followed agricultural pursuits about fifteen years. He then spent two years in Montgomery County, Indiana, and in July, 1854, he removed with his family to Black Hawk County, Iowa, and at once settled on his present farm, which at that time was unbroken prairie. He made a tent of his wagon cover in which his family lived till he had built his log house, and commenced to improve his farm. After living in his log house nine years he built a better residence, where he still lives. His first purchase was eighty acres of prairie and twenty-three acres of timbered land, and by his untiring industry and economy he was enabled to add to his original purchase till he owned 300 acres. He has at present 183 acres of finely cultivated land, and his barns and outbuildings are well arranged. He was married before leaving Ireland to Miss Ann Webster, by whom he had four children, of whom three are yet living-Thomas, William and Elizabeth, wife of E.P. Streeter. Mr. Dobson married for his second wife Miss Emily Good, a native of Tennessee, and to this union have been born seven children-Amos, Alice, John, Wesley, Abram, Eunice and Francis. John is at home with his parents and has the management of the farm. The two younger brothers are at school. Mr. Dobson, when he landed in America, had but one sovereign in his pocket, but with owing to his good management and temperate habits he is to-day comfortably settled in life. In politics Mr. Dobson affiliates with the Republican party.
