_Jacob BAUGHER _________ | |--Lydia BACHER | |_Maria Barbara KISTLER _
The following was posted in it's entirety to ancestry.com's BACHAR message board by Barbara Goddard in August of 2004.
In April I did a week-long genealogy trip, starting in Wyandot Co., OH, then to Hancock Co., then to Lithopolis in Fairfield Co. I was able to gather a lot of information about the Bacher/Baugher/Bachar family who originally bought land in Faifield Co., and laid out the town of Centerville, which later changed names to Lithopolis.
In the Wagnalls Library in Lithopolis and the Lancaster library in Hancock Co., OH, there are files on the Baughers. I also visited courthouses and cemeteries in all three counties. My mother's maiden name is Bacher (JacobC,/Johannes or John/Jacob B./Dennis/Everett), and she was very excited about all the information we found.
One of my most exciting finds were the estate papers listing the heirs of Lydia Baugher - the unmarried daughter of Jacob C. Baugher (wife was Maria Barbara Kistler), who with his wife and children moved from Lehigh or Hampton Co., PA to Fairfield Co. about 1813 (possibly earlier). When Lydia Baugher died in 1872, her parents and all of her siblings were already dead. She names as her heirs all of the living children and grandchildren of four brothers and one sister. Hopefully this will help some of you as much as it has for me. I've got more information on most of the heirs mentioned, so feel free to contact me if you're interested in more. Since I am descended from Jacob's son, John, that is the line I have the most information about.
From Lydia Baugher Estate 1872
Whole amount charged by adm $7,322.84
Whole amount of credits $ 637.90
Add Allowance to adm $ 175.000
Costs of this settlement $ 13.50 $ 826.40
Apparent bal for distribution $6,496.44
The said decedent left as her next of kin nephews and nieces being the children and their representatives of her deceased four brothers and one sister namely Frederick Baugher and Catharine Wildermuth and Henry Baugher and John Baugher and Samuel Baugher.
Frederick Baugher left eight children one of whom has since died leaving chldren and the names of his children and grandchildren are given in Schedule B hereto attached.
Catherine Wildermuth left seven children two of whom are dead leaving children and all their names are given in Schedule C hereto attached.

"The community was saddened Thursday of last week when the death of Mrs. Joseph SAMPSEL, north of town, was learned, but rejoiced too, that she could be relieved of her suffering, as she had been afflicted with cancer the past six months.
Miss Minerva HART and Joseph SAMPSEL were married over fifty years ago. She was born in Fairfield county, O., Dec. 18, 1843. Three daughters and one son are living, who are: J. C. SAMPSEL and Mrs. Ella McCARTER of Kokomo, Mrs. Rosa TRACY and Mrs. Minerva BOWERS of this place. There are three grandchildren.
The funeral service was held in the Christian church here Saturday afternoon, where Rev. THORNTON preached a wonderful sermon, and well could he do so, for Mrs. Sampsel was certainly a splendid subject, as her many friends can testify to her faithful Christian life. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery where the Rebekah Odd Fellows performed their rites as Mrs. Sampsel was a faithful member of the order."
