[3882] "Andrew Beck and family came from Fairfield County, Ohio, with his
brother-in-law, John Fenstemaker, and located on land in this township
previously entered by his father, Andrew Beck, Sr., who had taken up several
hundred acres. His brother Daniel came out about two years later, and
afterward their brothers, Henry, Peter and John, joined the settlement, all
locating in what is now Amanda, except Henry whose farm was in Ridge, and
included in the territory taken in the erection of Wyandot County. The
parents, Andrew and Catherine, did not settle here until some time after the
sons, and both died in the township. Andrew, Jr., died near Wharton; Daniel
removed to Missouri and there died; Henry died on his farm in Wyandot County;
Peter died in this township; John resides in Indiana, and the two daughters,
Mrs. John Fenstemaker and Mrs, Jacob Backer, live on their respective

1937 - Van Wert, Oct. 9 -- Cecil Foor, 25, of Liberty twp., is in serious condition at Van Wert Co. Hosp. suffering from injuries received in an accident on the Reed farm east of here. Foor, employed by Tony Stegeman of Ohio City, was working on a corn-picker, when he fell astraddle the power shaft which it was revolving. He was horribly torn and lacerated below the abdomen. [23953] Oppressive heat had claimed its first victim at Tiffin Friday in the death of Marvin Foor, aged 17 years, of Helena, who was drowned in 10 feet of water while swimming in an abandoned quarry on the farm of Frank Haubert in Jackson township. With Luther Beatty, aged 16 years, also of Helena, Foor went to the quarry to catch minnows and swim. The boys discovered an improvised raft. Foor started to paddle it across the quarry. The raft sank ten feet from the opposite shore. He could not swim. [Van Wert Daily Bulletin, Van Wert, Ohio, July 7, 1928]

1920 - Authorities are looking for Mrs. Christena Delong of Cedar Heights who is charged by Humane Officer H. A. Haynes in Justice Parido's court with deserting her four little children, Harold 13, Mildred 11, Paul 8 and Fred 3 years old. Mrs. Delong and her husband, Allen Delong are separated and now the father is taking care of the children. Each of the Delongs was refused a divorce by Judge Shell some weeks ago. 1923 - Humane Officer H. A. Haynes, investigated a report of starving cattle in the farm of Chay Thornton near Hamburg this morning. He found no stock starving but did find the carcass of a cow in a barn that had died several days ago of tuberculosis and the owner had not had time to bury it, so he said. Officer Haynes made him bur it at once and also liberate a sow and a litter of pigs from a "mud hole" of a pen. Mr. Thornton admitted his neglect. OBIT: Aged Man Dies Near Lithopolis. Mr. Andrew Lehman, aged 86, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clyde Broomhall, near Lithopolis, Friday morning, April 22. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Zawyer [sic] and Mrs. Clyde Broomhall, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, also two sisters, Mrs. Peter Arnold of Marcy and Mrs. Edwin Stotz Columbus, and one brother Elisha Lehman of Lancaster. Mary Wilson Stevenson, age 100, of Groveport, passed away March 16, 2014 after a long life well lived. Mary was born August 20, 1913 to the late Earl and Edith Courtright Wilson in Madison Twp. She retired from Ken Foley Insurance Co. after 25 years of service. She was a lifelong resident of Groveport where she was a devoted member of the Groveport United Methodist Church; Charter Member of the Groveport Garden Club; and a 70 year member of Groveport Chapter #440 O.E.S. Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Robert L. Stevenson, son William E., sisters Alice Poth, Eloise Rohr, Martha Fisher, Clara Leidy, brother Andrew Wilson. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Ginny Stevenson; grandchildren, Beth Stevenson and Todd (Janel) Stevenson; great grandchildren, Alisha, Brent, and Carey; brother, Eugene Wilson. Friends may call at the MYERS-WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, Groveport OH, Friday, March 21, 2014 from 4-7 p.m, with OES service at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday at The Groveport United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jay Moyers officiating.
