"JOSEPH FOREMAN, farmer, P. O. Rawson, was born August 30, 1830, in Franklin County, Penn. His parents, William and Eleanor (McNeal) Foreman, came to Eagle Township, thin county, with a family of eight children in 1845. The country being then new, they made the entire journey by wagon train, the older children, including Joseph, walking the whole distance. They settled on a farm in the northern part of Eagle Township, of which about twenty-five acres were cleared, and at once began improving and developing the place. They resided on this farm until their death; the mother died in 1850 and the father in 1863. Manifesting a spirit of patriotism, the boys, Joseph, John and George, gave their services to the Government during the war of the Rebellion. Joseph Foreman, the subject of this sketch, united in marriage, March 21, 1852, with Miss Christine Alspach, who was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, February 2, 1832, and came to this county in April, 1849. Her parents, Jacob and Polly (Miller) Alspach, lived in Fairfield County, Ohio, until the letter's death, after which Mr. Alspach moved to Indiana, where he now resides." Same Mary Delong? - Sixteen Year Old Boy is Arrested on Paternity Charge Filed in Squire Lane's Court. Case May Have to be Transferred to Juvenile Court Because of the Tender Age of the Accused Youth. William Aumock Jr., aged 16 years, was arrested yesterday afternoon by Constable Miller as the result of a paternity charge having been filed against the boy in Squire J. J. Lane's Court by Miss Mary DeLong, aged 18, north of the city. The lad will probably be arraigned before Squire Lane next Friday morning. It is understood that the case will have to be turned over to the juvenile court authorities owing to the fact that Aumock is only 16. Pending further proceedings he is being confined in the county jail. [Lancaster Daily Eagle, Lancaster, Ohio, March 8, 1916]

LOCATION: 1905 - Chester C. Foor Has Failed. Assignment of Business Interests to Charles T. Sansberry of Anderson. Anderson, Indiana, June 28 - James B. Stewart, chef of the Grand hotel this city, filed suit today on a labor claim, calling for $1,451 and asking that a receiver be appointed to take charge of the business of Chester C. Foor, proprietor and manger of the hotel and also lessee and manager of the Grand opera house, both in the same building. The claim of Mr. Stewart was certified as correct by Mr. Foor, and Mr. Foor stated that with the consent of the court he would make an assignment to Charles T. Sansberry. Mr. Foor said his liabilities were between $3000 and $4000 and that the assets and hotel fixtures, with the leases, amounted to $15,000. Mr. Foor attributed his failure to lack of business to meet expenses of the hotel and opera house. He is undetermined as to his future, but he said today that it was probable he would return to Indianapolis his former home. [Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, OH, June 29, 1905]

NAME/DOB: age and info on 1850 census.
MIDDLE NAME: From Charlotte Hesselbrock via August 2001 email.
"To Samuel and Nancy Kramer there came first the addition of a daughter, who
was welcomed and greeted as a harbinger of future happiness. She was named
Sarah Eleanora; was pretty, intelligent, and precocious, quick to learn and
devoted, even as a child, to her parents and later, to her brothers and
sisters. Four years later came another little girl who was named Harriet
Loraine, partly in honor of her Aunt Harriet Bumbarger. To her friends she
was Hattie. Then after the passage of another two years, a third daughter
came to brighten the Kramer home, and she surely did brighten it with love
and cheerfulness. She was given the name of Elizabeth Irene, partly in honor
of her Aunt Elizabeth (Bumbarger) Edwards." "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF

"Town Inherits 2.5 Million" - Ohio Hamlet of 300 Benefits in Will of N.J. Woman. NEW YORK - The sum which the hamlet of Lithopolis, Ohio, (population 300) will receive under the will of Mrs. Mabel Wagnalls Jones, author and pianist, was set at $2,565.788 when a tax appraisal of her estate was filed. Mrs. Jones who lived at 1 Lexington Avenue and died March 22, 1946, was the widow of Richard J. Jones, investment broker, and daughter of the late Adam Willis Wagnalls, a founder of the Funk & Wagnalls Company, publishers. Her father was a native of Lithopolis. She left the residue of her estate to the Wagnalls Memorial for a community center in Lithopolis, for scholarships for youth of the village and for advancement of the hamlet's cultural life. Mrs. Wagnalls built the memorial in 1925 in memory of her father at a cost of $500,000. Her gross estate was set at $3,027.506 and the net estate at $2,780,788. She left bequests of $40,000 each to five cousins." [The BERKSHIRE EVENING EAGLE, Pittsfield, Berkshire, Massachusetts, April 22, 1948, p 3.]
"Two of the six graduates have already qualified fully for the scholarships... Miss Marilyn Good, 17, will go to Otterbein College, at Westerville, to study primary-school teaching and the pipe organ. Donald Speakman, 18, will go to Ohio State University, at Columbus, to study agriculture. Both come from farm homes." [The BERKSHIRE EVENING EAGLE, Pittsfield, Berkshire, Massachusetts, July 26, 1948, p 7.]
"The donor of the Lithopolis Memorial, Mabel Wagnalls-Jones and her husband, Richard J. Jones are in the village. The Sarcophagus which they are building in the Lithopolis Cemetery is nearing completion and they expect to remain until it is finished. The Sunday sacred concerts each Sunday after noon from 3 to 5 p.m. are still attracting from five to six hundred people in the Memorial building. NOTE: The following biography shows she was born in 1871 which is an obvious error as she shows up in the 1870 census with parents.
WAGNALLS, Mabel, musician and author, was born in Kansas City, Mo., April 20, 1871; daughter of Adam Willis and Anna (Willis) Wagnalls; granddaughter of Christopher and Elizabeth (Snyder) Wagenhals and of Aaron and Mary (Henry) Willis, and a descendant of William Henry, only brother of Patrick Henry of Virginia. Her father was one of the original founders of Funk & Wagnalls Co., publishers of the" Standard Dictionary." She was educated under her mother's tuition until 1885, when she studied music in Paris and Vienna, and under Franz Kûllak in Berlin. She made her appearance as piano soloist at the Sing Akademie of Berlin in 1889, and her American début with the orchestra of Theodore Thomas in New York city, Jan. 11, 1891.
