"JOHN CASTANIEN was born in Perry County, Ohio, June 11, 1825. His parents, Alexander and Marelius (King) Castanien, were natives of Prussia and Switzerland respectively, the former crossing the ocean to escape military service, the latter emigrating at the age of four years. They were married in Perry County, where they passed their entire lives, he a farmer and teacher of German schools. He died in his sixtieth year, his wife about the same age. Their children were John, Serenus, Jacob and David. John Castanien remained at home till his twenty-fifth year, obtaining the rudiments of an education and working upon the farm. In 1848, he came to this county, his father having entered his present farm of 100 acres, then covered with timber, which our subject has since removed. He is now the owner of 440 acres; his " bank" barn is the largest in the town ship, and his dwelling was erected in 1863-64 at a cost of $2,000. Mr. Castanien was married in the autumn of 1848, to Christina Alspach, five children resulting-Mahala, Caroline (wife of Emmet Bachtel), Frank, David and Amos E, Mrs. Castanien's demise occurred in 1861, at the age of thirty-five, and Mr. C. was married, November 25, 1863, to Miss Sophia Alspach (sister of first wife), daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Runkle) Alspach, natives of Pennsylvania, residents of Perry County, Ohio. She was born April 15, 1837. Their children were William H. and Allen B. In politics, Mr. C. is an independent Democrat. He and his family are all members of the German Reformed Church, of which he was many years a Deacon." "HISTORY OF WYANDOT COUNTY, OHIO", Leggett, Conaway & Co., 1884, p 907 - Pitt Township.

OBIT: FOORE -- Dale, was born on June 24, 1924 in a Six Mile Run in Bedford County, PA, and died at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Owasso, on Wednesday, April 11, 2007. His parents were Marshall E. Foore and his mother was Bertha (Stayer) Foore, and he had 1 sister, Arvilla Whited and 1 brother, Joe Foore, who have all preceded him in death. Dale is survived by: his son, Dr. Ronald Foore of Owasso; and his daughter-in-law, Nanette Foore; and the light of his life his granddaughter, Marissa. His youngest son is Dennis Foore who lives in Tulsa. Dale dropped out of high school at the start of World War II, to enlist in the Navy. Following his basic training, completed at the Chicago Shipping Yard, he spent the rest of the war flying PBM airplanes, searching for German submarines in the Atlantic. He often kidded about the irony that a Pennsylvania coal miner's son spent the war stationed on various Caribbean islands, flying over beautiful blue water. Following the war, he married his sweetheart, Mary Gene Sheterom, of Saxton PA. She was the daughter of Victor and Mary Sheterom. They moved to Tulsa, where he completed his high school credits at the University of Tulsa, which had created a school for returning veterans, and later finished his aeronautical mechanics training at the Spartan School of Aeronautics. Dale retired from American Airlines, after almost 37 years of employment, as a Mechanic, Crew Chief, and Foreman, having served in numerous shops. Dale was a life member of Delta Masonic Lodge, as well as being a 32nd life member of the Tulsa Scottish Rite, where he was a longtime member of the Supernumerary Club, and a member of the American Legion. A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 13, at the Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Owasso. The family is asking in lieu of flowers that contributions be made in Dale's name to the Oklahoma Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 2406, Edmond, OK 73083-2406. Moore's Owasso Chapel, 272-3200.

ANDREW MARTIN ROOT
Andrew Martin Root, 73, of Marysville, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at
his home surrounded by his family after an 18-year battle with cancer.
He retired from Denison Hydraulics, Marysville, after more than 20 years
as a hydraulic pump tester.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he enjoyed traveling throughout the
United States and Canada, especially to Durango and Silverton, Colo., to
ride the Narrow Gauge Train. He and his wife liked to stay at Signal
Mountain Lodge, close to Jackson Hole, Wy. He was a member of
"Ourbirdclub" and had friends throughout the U.S., Canada and the United

Rainbow Lorikeets.
He enjoyed coaching both of his sons' Little League baseball teams and
was especially proud of the two young female athletes that he coached
during that time who went on to be successful members of the Little
League all-star team. A former cub scout leader, he liked crafts and
also helped do them with his wife's girl scout group.
One of his favorite activities was visiting with residents at Heartland
of Marysville over the years, especially Betty Raley and Marcile Hecker,
whom he took car rides with to the Scioto River to feed ducks.
He was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Lithopolis, to the late Harry Martin and
Frieda Mason Root. He also was predeceased by a brother, Donald Root,
and a sister, Lois Ruder.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deborah Jean Norris Root, whom
he married Nov. 2, 1968, in Marysville; two sons, Clinton Root and his
fiancee, Michelle Bechtel, both of Delaware, and Christopher Root of
Columbus; a daughter, Shelly Carter of Marysville; four grandchildren,
Ryan, Justin, Sarah and Shane Carter; two sisters, Kathryn (Chuck) Clegg
of Canal Winchester, and Esther Dean of Columbus; a brother, Lewis
(Ruth) Root of Tampa, Fla.; his father- and mother-in-law, Paul and
Betty Norris of Marysville; two brothers-in-law, Paul Wayne (Amy) Norris
of Delaware, and Larry Ruder of Reynoldsburg; two sisters-in-law, Sharon
(Frank) Dille and Becky Wolford of Marysville; and numerous aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
