"It was in 1868 that the Dove family was transplanted to the plains of Kansas and located on some of the virgin prairies of Greenwood County. Jacob Small Dove was head of the family at the time. He was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, April 22, 1840, grew up there, then removed to Shelby County, Illinois, where he was married, and in 1869 he brought his family to Greenwood County, Kansas. His homestead was 160 acres of land on Otter Creek. He lived a very industrious though quiet life, enjoyed a reasonable degree of prosperity and had sufficient for his own needs and ample provision for his growing family. He was from first to last a democrat and his chief interest outside his family and business was the Methodist Episcopal Church. He served both as steward and class leader, and always bore his share of responsibilities in the maintenance of church activities in the community. His death occurred on his farm on Otter Creek November 17, 1878." A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans, written and compiled by William E. Connelley, Secretary of the Kansas State Historical Society, Topeka. Chicago: Lewis Publishing Company, copyright 1918; transcribed 1997.

[12206]
NOTE: The first name of this GIBBS female is all undocumented. I first searched for a FOORE who died after the birth of their last known child and the first census she was not on. There was only one, and it was a Margaret Foore. The 1920 census shows two FOOR "grandchildren" residing with an Almeda GIBBS who was widowed and had a child named Roswell born in CA and only 6 years old. The 1930 census shows that the FOOR children were actually Almeda's STEP grandchildren, making Almeda the stepmother of the unknown GIBBS woman who married Eber David Foore. So I set out find, first, Almeda's parents and where she lived in Ohio. The stepmother Almeda GIBBS death record shows her maiden name was LANDIS. I found her easily in the census's in Miami Co., Ohio. Also residing there were GIBBS families. One was a William GIBBS born in 1859 who was widowed and had a daughter Margaret born in 1886 in OH. It appears, now, that William GIBBS married Almeda LANDIS for his 2nd wife, about 1910, and somehow at least Almeda made her way to CA by abt 1913 when a son Roswell Gibbs was born. The first name of Roswell was also a link to the Miami Co., Ohio GIBBS families, and was probably named after a relative.
The Margaret FOORE born about 1886 who died Nov. 10th, 1910 in Los Angeles Co., CA could definitely be the Margaret GIBBS, d/o William GIBBS and his first wife. She died shortly after the birth of her last son, Robert David Foore. What brought her father and his new wife to CA? In 1910, both her father and her future step-mother (which she may have never met), were both still in Miami Co., OH. Did they marry just before coming out to see the dying daughter? Did they come out to CA for the purpose of taking care of the grandchildren?
NOTE: There's a Margaret Foore, age 24, who died 21 Nov 1910 in Los Angeles Co., CA.

[13248]
OBIT: George C. Leader, one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of Bedford, died on Saturday. The deceased was a son of Daniel Leader and was born near Bedford on April 23, 1828. When only eighteen years of age he ran away from home and joined a company of United States troops. He served throughout the MExican war as a member of Captain Taylor's company, L,Second regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers. When the civil war broke out Mr. Leader went to Harrisburg and tried to enlist, but was rejected because of an injury he had received at Mexico City. On May 23, 1851, he was united in marriage to Miss Catharine England of Friend's Cove. To this union seven children were born, five of whom are still living, namely, Mrs. William Shuck, of Chicago; Miss Sallie Leader, of Indiana, PA; Daniel Leader, of Denver, Col.; Clayton Leader, of Duquense, and Frank Leader, whose present address is not known here. Mrs. Leader died on October 21, 1862. On January 10, 1864, Mr. Leader married Mrs. Sarah Winsett, daughter of George and Rachel Manspeaker, late of Ray's Cove. This marriage was blessed with six children, two of whom died in infancy. Those who, with his second wife, survive him are William J. Leader, of Duquense; Mrs. John W. Foor, of Ray's Cove; John G. Leader, of Homestead, and Miss Lavenia Leader, at home. He is also survived by two sisters -- Mrs. Lizzie Fisher and Mrs. Sarah Sansom, of Indiana, PA.
Mr. Leader at one time operated Nycum's flouring mill below Everett and subsequently had charge of the "Old Poor House" mill just east of Bedford borough. He was a mason and contractor and while living here worked for some time in Pittsburg, putting in the first water drops in the sewerage of that city. For many years he followed his trade here. He built the Reformed church, the Catholic church, finished the Episcopal church and erected the Oppenheimer bl ck[?], the Heckerman building, the Methodist parsonage and a number of private residences. He was a good workman and these edifices are silent testimonials of his skill and integrity.
For a long time he was an active member and steward of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a man of unimpeachable character, generous, broad-minded and charitable. His death leaves but two survivors of the Mexican war in this county -- Capt. A. E. Shell, of Schellsburg, and Daniel Crouse, of Bedford. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and were conducted by his pastor, Rev. George Leidy, assisted by Rev. J. W. [Lirgle?] of the Lutheran church. Interment in the Bedford cemetery.
