The following is from John C. Hamler of Columbus, Ohio; 2005:
Franklin W Courtright enlisted in Company C, 11th Ohio Cavalry on 5 December 1861. At the time this was Co C, 6th Ohio Cavalry, but the unit was re-designated in September 1862 as Co C, 1st Independent Battalion Ohio Cavalry and again in October 1863 as 11th Ohio Cavalry. Company C was recruited in FAIRFIELD COUNTY, OHIO.
The 11th Ohio cavalry was deployed along the Overland Trail in Wyoming from 1862-1866. In February 1863, Company C was part of a relief column that marched from Fort Laramie to Fort Halleck (*), which was under threat of Indian attack. During the march, the troops encountered a severe blizzard thru which they continued to travel. Upon arriving at Fort Halleck (*), there were many cases of frostbite and three men either died outright, or did not recover from the extreme cold. Franklin W Courtright was recorded as frozen to death on 28 February 1863 at Fort Halleck (*). The soldiers buried at Fort Halleck (*), were supposed to have been re-buried at Fort McPherson. (++). If so, he is one of the unknowns buried there.

(*) Fort Halleck, Wyoming, was established in 1862 to protect the Overland Trail Stage Line from continuing Indian problems. The site chosen in a gap on the north side of Elk Mountain at an elevation of about 7300 feet was near a spring with plenty of wood for cooking and heating....
The post surgeon at the time, Dr. J. H. Finfrock, kept very detailed records of the emigrants passing through Fort Halleck station. In 1864 he recorded that there were over 4200 emigrant wagons, with a staggering number of 17,584 emigrants and an even more astounding total of over 50,000 animals traveling the Overland Trail.....
A diarist, Franklin E Adams, who kept quite a thorough diary of his trip on the Overland Trail in 1865, notes that soldiers from the Ohio Volunteers were stationed at Fort Halleck, and were paid $16.00 per month to fight the Indians. This stretch of the trail, from Fort Halleck to Sulphur Springs in the west, was considered to be one of the most dangerous, with regards to Indian attacks......
Fort Halleck was abandoned in 1866, just four years after being established; and by the next year diarists described it as "the most dreary place on the entire route". One building remains in the area that some feel may possibly be the blacksmith shop. A stone marker erected by the DAR in 1914 marks the site of Fort Halleck Cemetery.
www.over-land.com/fthall.html
(++) Fort McPherson National Cemetery is located in Lincoln County, Nebraska, about four miles south of Maxwell. Fort McPherson was built in 1863 with the purpose of ensuring peace along the western frontier between the thousands of emigrants traveling along the Oregon Trail and the Native American inhabitants......twenty-three cemeteries from abandoned frontier forts located in Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Nebraska, have been moved to Fort McPherson for proper care and maintenance of those graves. These moves took place between 1881 and 1947. Many of these graves account for the 584 unknowns that are interred here.....

1915 - James Englehart of Lithopolis Accidently Shoots 15 Year Old Brother - Accident occurred on Farm of a Sister in Pickaway County and Lad Was Being Rushed to Hospital in Circleville. Died on Way. A fatal hunting accident occurred Monday morning about ten o'clock on the farm of Mrs. Emor Smyers in Madison Twp., Pickaway county. Mrs. Smyers' two brothers, William and James Englehart, of Lithopolis, were hunting squirrel, when William was accidentally shot by James. The shot entered the boy's left thigh just below the groin. Dr. Gardner, of Ashville, was called and seeing how seriously the boy was wounded telephoned to Dr. A. W. Holman and then started to bring young Englehart to the hospital in Circleville. The boy died just as the party reached the city, death resulting from the shock and loss of blood. The boys are sons of Charles Englehart, of Lithopolis. William is 15 years old and James 18. The boys left their home early Monday morning on a hunting expedition. When they reached their sister's home the elder brother said, "I want to show you how a good shot gun shoots" and pulled the trigger. The gun was discharged and his brother dropped to the ground mortally wounded. Distracted the elder brother ran to the house and called to his sister for help. Dr. Gardner, Elmer Bowman and John Custer took the body back to Ashville were Undertaker Schlagel will prepare it for burial. [Lancaster Daily Eagle, Lancaster, Ohio, Sept. 28, 1915]
