There are too many coincidences between children's names in the families of "Israel HUMMEL" found in the census, and that of Isaac Hummell. I'm changing this individual's name to Isaac and combining family data.

Isaac Hummell's Sr.'s 1884 partition records mention his death date as 30 Apr 1884. Children and heirs were Catherine, wife of Henry Boyer; John Hummell and wife Susan of Hancock Co; William Hummell and wife Mary; Solomon Hummell and wife Mary of Hancock Co; Daniel Hummell and wife Sarah; David Hummell and wife Louisa of Pulaski Co., IN; Elijah Hummell and wife Julia of Pulaski Co., IN; Noah Hummell and wife America; Lafayette Hummell and wife Rachel; Mary/Polly Hummell; Sylvina, a wife of Ervin Mason; the heirs of Isaac Hummell, Jr., deceased, and wife Emiline, who were minors Carrie, John, Ella, Gertie, Ada and Perlie of Canal Winchester, Franklin Co., OH. "Partition Record Abstracts, V2, 1851-1900 Fairfield County, Ohio", Fairfield County Chapter OGS, 1988, p 57.

In 1860, Henry Boyer was married to "Miss Katie M. Hummell, a daughter of Isaac and Magdaline (Miller) Hummell, who were natives of Pennsylvania and in whose family were sixteen children, as follows: John; William; Solomon; Daniel; David; Elijah; Louis; Lafayette; Polly, the wife of Charles Dilley; Savina, the wife of Erving Mason; Katie, who is now Mrs. Boyer; and five who have passed away, namely: Anna, Mary Ann, Isaac, Julia and Aaron. The father of this family was a shoemaker by trade and followed that occupation in Bloom township near Salem church. He had come from Pennsylvania to Ohio with a one-horse wagon and had taken up his abode in Bloom township in pioneer days. There he spent the remainder of his life and was knownn as a consistent and loyal member of the Salem church. His death occurred in 1884, when he had attained the age of seventy years. "A Biographical Record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio, S. J. Clarke Pub., Co., 1902, p 341.

E. Homrighouse sketch taken from the July 2nd edition of the Shelbyville, Illinois Democrat, "E. Homrighouse was born 9 miles west of Lancaster, Ohio, in 1836. In 1858 he moved to Shelby County, IL, near Holland, and in 1865 to Shelbyville. He married first in 1858, Mary Allen, and became the father of 3 sons. "Ervin Homrighous, a jeweler of Shelbyville, Shelby County, bears a high reputation through the county as a business man and is widely known in social circles for his musical talent and for his connection with the famous Shelbyville Palmer Glee Club as its leader. He is a native of Amanda Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio, the date of his birth being March 28, 1836. His father, John Homrighous, a prominent citizen and business man of that place, was born in that county, in the township of Bloom, Oct. 14, 1811, being a son of one of the early pioneers of that part of Ohio, John Homrighous. The later was born in Deadenshaus, Germany, Nov. 21, 1781. His boyhooed was passed in the Fatherland, but before he attained his majority he resolved to try life in America... Ervin Homrighous was educated in the schools of Royalton, and at the age of 12 years he began to learn the trade of a jeweler, and when 15 years old commenced to learn the trade of cabinetmaker of his father. He worked with him until he was 22 years of age, and then came to Illinois, and for 7 years was actively engaged in farming in Holland township. In 1865 he came to Shelbyville... [He] was first married in 1858 to Miss Mary Allen, who was, like himself, a native of Amanda Township... and was a daughter of Howard and Sarah (Leist) Allen. [She] died in 1870. COL. DAVID L. SMITH. Among the prominent and highly esteemed citizens of the northern section of Pickaway County, there' is none more deserving of mention in a representative work than Col. David L. Smith, one of the best known residents of Madison township. Colonel Smith was born in Pickaway County, March 9, 1837, and is a son of Jacob and Christina (Hall) Smith.

This branch of the Smith family belonged to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and from there came Jacob Smith, in 1808, when a boy of 14 years, accompanying his father, John Smith, who settled in Madison township, Pickaway County, on the farm now occupied by our subject. At that time all this territory was as yet unsettled, forests stood where now are cultivated fields, and Indians and wild animals roamed where now stand comfortable farm houses or pass modern lines of transportation. The older generation passed away here and Jacob Smith, after a useful, exemplary life, died on the old farm in 1870, being a man who was held in universal respect by his fellow-citizens. He was a substantial farmer and he also engaged in weaving.

Colonel Smith was married in 1864 to Eliza Fellers, who was born in Fairfield County, Ohio. They have had 11 children, as follows : Elva E. and Anna C., both living at home; Stephen A., who married Mary Glick and lives in Fairfield County: Jacob R., living at home; Frederick J., of Madison township; Gertrude B., wife of J. B. Klamforth, of Franklin County; Samuel D., who married Kate Fridley and resides in Madison township; John M., who married Lulu Harris and resides in Franklin County; Elmer W. and Elwood F., both living at home; and Willard L., deceased. They also have a boy of 14 years in their family, whom they have raised from the time he was eight days old--his name is Delno William Stotler. "History of Pickaway Co., Ohio, and Representative Citizens", Van Cleaf, 1906, p 446-447.

Death certificate image. David L. Smith, Canal Winchester Route 6, Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., OH, died July 20, 1920 aged 83y 4m 11d, married, born Mar 9, 1837 in Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., Ohio, to Jacob Smith b PA and Cristina Hall b PA. NOTE: Ellen was my [Shelly Hallard Beckham] first cousin, one generation removed. She had given me some info on her branch of the family and made sure I knew that her name on her birth certificate was Bode. Her dad, Hal Stroud, raised her as his own.
