"Short funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen POWELL, in Macy, for her father, Thompson DOWDS, 70, who died Saturday evening in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Burial will be made in the Plainview cemetery. The body arrived in Rochester Tuesday afternoon from Mt. Vernon and was taken to the daughter's home in Macy.
Mr. Dowds, whose death was due to paralysis, had made his home with the Powell family for the past four or five years. His wife, now deceased, was formerly Amanda FOOR, of Macy. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ellis BARTLETT, Mrs. Cecillia BRADDOCK and Mrs. Ruby BERGER, of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Glen POWELL, of Macy; two sons, Cecil DOWDS, of Mt. She was Elizabeth Huntwork, who was born, reared, and married in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, a daughter of Michael and Mary (FAIRCHILDS) HUNTWORK, old settlers. Five children were born to Dr. Soliday and wife, namely: Frank, who is deceased; Michael C.; Mary, who is the wife of Jacob Sleckman; Charles, who is deceased; and Cora, now deceased, who was the wife of Emanuel Miller", "History of Fairfield County and Representative Citizens", Charles C. It dawned on me when I saw this unknown family in 1850 that there were similarities to the Scott surname. James Scott later shows that both parents were b in Ireland, and himself in PA. The James Scott's 1840 census tends to agree with the 1850 census, too.

OBIT: I---? ??iver, daughter of William and Jane Skiver, was born in Hocking Co., Ohio, Dec. 3, 1861, and departed this life Sunday, Aug. 19, 1923, aged 61 years 8 months and 16? days. At the early age of 12 years she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Mt. Carmel M. E. Church, Laureville, Ohio. After moving to their home north of Royalton, her membership was changed to the Wesley Chapel M. E. Church of which church she was a faithful member until her departure. She was united in marriage to William H. Hart, Dec. 10th, 1881. To this happy union were born eight children. Seven of whom are still living. Pearl E. Hart of Carroll, Cora E. McDonald, Blanche G. Kiger, Charles A. Hart, Ethel A. Conrad of Royalton, Grace C. Hite and Lillian M. Hart of Lancaster. One son, Clarence, having died in infancy. Her husband having preceded her to the spirit world 13 years ago. She leaves to mourn their loss her seven children, eleven grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Mills of Athens, Mrs. Hattie Hauck of Columbus and Mrs. Melisa Hart, Michigan. Two brothers, Presley Skiver of Royalton and Ward Skiver of Hocking County. Also a host of other relatives and friends. Mother Hart has been a constant sufferer for almost a year. Her suffering at times almost unbearable yet it was bourne with christian patience. She will be missed by her children and her neighbors. Always interested in their welfare and the welfare of those whom she knew. Her last severe illness was of short duration. She was married on Sept. 13, 1842 and was the mother of 6 children, Anny Mary, Louise, Gertrude, Ellen, Julia Fromlet and John W. Beck. Ellen died Dec. 16, 1890 and John W. died Sept. 20, 1900, Anna Mary, Louise and Gertrude are also now deceased. Mary Louise Beck is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Fromlet, brother, Rev. Dr. Wagenhals of Ft. Wayne, IN, and sisters Mrs. George Harter of Salem and Mrs. Mary Emmett of Waverly. August 13, 1908.
