"He [George Boving] was twice married. In 1833 he wedded Sophia Pfleging and unto them were born four children, all of whom are now deceased. The mother passed away in 1847, and in 1849 Mr. Boving was again married, his second union being with Amalia Paran, of Woolfsanger, Germany, the ceremony being celebrated in Lancaster, Ohio. Four children were born of this marriage, but two of the number are deceased, Harry R., a jeweler of Lancaster, being the younger of the living sons. The father died May 25, 1890, after a long residence in Fairfield county, during which time he won many friends by reason of his upright character." Dorothy L. Raber, 78, of Lawnwood Street, Morgantown, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at her home.
She was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Sabraton, daughter of the late Joe R. and Erma B. Shumaker Foor.
She was a country music lover, having played fiddle with groups such as Cowboy Jack and West Virginia Ramblers as early as the 1940s. She also loved to paint, never selling her paintings, but just giving them to acquaintances to enjoy.
She is survived by a brother and spouse, William L. "Pete" and Thelma Gibson Foor, of Morgantown; a brother-in-law, Robert L. West, of Morgantown; two nieces and spouses, Joyce and Robert Clay, of Reedsville, and Sharon and Frank DeWitt, of Morgantown; t wo nephews and a spouse, Robert "Bobby" West, of Morgantown, and Aaron and Edith Gibson, of Morgantown; two great-nieces, Kearstin Clay and Ami LeMasters; a great-nephew, Adam LeMasters; and a daughter-in-law, Deliah Raber, of Lompoc, Calif.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kelsey Raber; a son, Kelsey Raber Jr.; and a sister, Joann West.
Cremation service will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 18 at Morgantown Free Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Dickens officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Donations: Morg antown Free Methodist Church, c/o William Foor, 114 Apolla Drive, Morgantown, WV 26501.
