"Jeremiah Foor, one of the two remaining veterans of the Civil War, passed away Sunday Evening", [Bedford Gazette, Bedford, PA, Friday, Sept. 16, 1921, p 8.]
"I am researching the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry, a Civil War regiment
originally mustered in York. By 1864, however, they were drafting men
and accepting substitutes from all over the state. One of those was
Jeremiah S. Foor, who had previously served with the 107th Pennsylvania
Infantry. Here is the data I have on him, all from his pension records
at the National Archives and a lady named Carolyn Carroll, whose
location I do not know.
Foor, Jeremiah S., Pvt Co B; drafted June 3, 1864; discharged June 9,
1865, on a surgeon's certificate from Mowrer General Hospital,
Philadelphia; born Sep 20, 1838 (yet age on pension records indicate he
was born in either 1831 or 1832); died either Aug 11, 1929 or Sep 11,
1921 (both reported in pension records); a farmer from Ray's Hill,
Fulton County; 5' 6", light hair, gray eyes; in 1879, the War Department
accused him of falsifying pension certificates but could not prove it;
son of Abraham & Mary Foor; married Hannah Catherine Dull November 14,
1867; children: William H., Philip E., Mary Jane, Lavinia Bell, Margaret
Elizabeth, Sophia Edith, James F., Charles Emory, Chester Theodore, and
John Calvin".

Another article in the same issue as the obituary shows that Doyle died in a two car traffic accident at the intersection of Route 915 and Tannery Road. The article does not state if the other deceased person, Linda Clippinger Petron, was in the car driven by Foore, or the car driven by Diane Palmer. The driver of Doyle's auto was driven by his wife, Ruby, who had been travelling northbound on Rote 915 in Wells township and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Tannery Road, but turned into the path of an uncoming car driven by Diane Palmer. Both Palmer and Ruby Foore sustained minor injuries. All four had been wearing seatbelts.
