OBIT: Sabina - Services for John Phelps, 89, retired superintendent of the water and electric plants here when they were owned by the village, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Littleton Funeral Home.... Mr. Phelps, who died Saturday morning in the Eden Manor Nursing Home, was a member of the Masonic Lodge Commandery and Eastern Star of St. Paris, the Scottish Rite at Cincinnati and Aladdin Shrine at Columbus. He was a 50-year member of both the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and a charter member of the Sabina Lions Club. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. His wife, Fannie Courtwright, died in 1969. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Fitzwater, of Sidney, and MRs. Frances Newcomer, of Florham Park, NJ... he also leaves a sister, Mrs. Saddie Courtwright, of Columbus, and two brothers, Ralph Phelps of Canal Winchester and Vernon Phelps of Englewood, Calif. Burial will be in Lithopolis Cemetery. [Record Herald, Washington Court House, Ohio, March 9, 1970]

OBIT: John C. Phelps, 89, long time resident of Sabina, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the Eden Manor Nursing home where he had been a patient nearly a year. Mr. Phelps was superintendent of the water and light plants here when they were owned by the village. His wife, Fannie Courtwright Phelps, died in May 1969. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Fitzwater of Sideny, and Mrs. Frances Newcomer of Florham Park, NJ; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Fitzwater's husband, Paul Fitzwater, was the director of the high school band in Washington C. H. about 25 years ago. OBIT: Mrs. Anna Willis Wagnalls, wife of Adam Willis Wagnalls, one of the founders and President of Funk & Wagnalls, publishers of the Standard Dictionary, died on Sunday at Atlantic City after a long illness in her 69th year. She was a Miss Anna Willis and was born in Lithopolis, Ohio. Besides her husband, Mrs. Wagnalls is survived by a daughter, Miss Mabel Wagnalls of 38 Gramercy Park, a pianist and contributor of the article on musical terms in the Standard Dictionary and a story writer.
