afterward their brothers, Henry, Peter and John, joined the settlement, all
locating in what is now Amanda, except Henry whose farm was in Ridge, and
included in the territory taken in the erection of Wyandot County. The

Oppressive heat had claimed its first victim at Tiffin Friday in the death of Marvin Foor, aged 17 years, of Helena, who was drowned in 10 feet of water while swimming in an abandoned quarry on the farm of Frank Haubert in Jackson township. With Luther Beatty, aged 16 years, also of Helena, Foor went to the quarry to catch minnows and swim. The boys discovered an improvised raft. Foor started to paddle it across the quarry. The raft sank ten feet from the opposite shore. He could not swim. [Van Wert Daily Bulletin, Van Wert, Ohio, July 7, 1928]
