Lambert Redelfs, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, at Lithopolis, a little village, 17 miles south of here, failed to throw any light upon the mysterious death of Mrs. Sheatsley. The interview took place in the Redelfs home at Lithopolis. Mrs. Redelfs said she visited the Sheatsley home here between noon and 1 p.m. Nov. 17. The day Mrs. Sheatsley's charred remains were found in the basement furnace of the Bexley Lutheran parsonage. Mrs. Redelfs said she was admitted to the house by Alice, the 10 year old daughter. Mrs. Sheatsley and Clarence, the 16 year old son, she said, were in the sitting room looking over some mail. [The CHRONICLE TELEGRAM, Elyria, Ohio, November 25, 1924].

He learned the carpenter's trade and in connection with his building interests also carried on agricultural pursuits. He likewise taught school and later was engaged in the nursery business. When a boy, he had been bound out to a man by the name of Carpenter and under his direction learned the carpenter's trade. He was very energetic and industrious and his knowledge of the building industry enabled him to bring his talents to advantage on his own account and keep everything about the place in excellent condition. He too voted the Whig ticket. In early manhood he wedded Mary Allen, who died in 1841 at the age of thirty-two years. Seven children were born unto them, but Henry Cofman, the father of our subject, is the only one now living. Samuel Cofman was commissioned second lieutenant in the Mexican war and was an excellent military officer. He was identified with the Methodist Episcopal church on the circuit of Lockville, Jefferson and Rock mill, and afterward became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Carroll. He was born in 1811 and died in 1883, having spent the greater part of his life in Bloom township. A Biographical record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio. New York: S.J. Clarke Pub. OBIT:

Township Woman is Victim of Apparent Suicide - In what state police have termed a case of apparent suicide, a 46-year-old Bedford township woman died of gunshot woulds at her home late Friday afternoon. The victim of the shooting is Miss Marie Foor, a native of Cypher. State Police officer Harry Rook said Friday night that although his investigation of Miss Foor's death was not yet complete, the circumstances surrounding the shooting made it appear that she had taken her own life. The dead woman had acted as a housekeeper for Eugene Stickler, age 52, at his home on Chalybeate Road, between the Kennmetal plant and Belden. Stickler told police he found Miss Foor slumped over in a kneeling position outside his home at about 4:30 p.m. Friday. She had been shot in the neck and a 22-calibre rifle was lying beside her. The weapon belonged in the Stickler household. There were no witnesses in the shooting and no other residences are nearby. Stickler said that Miss Foor was alive when he found her. He immediately left in his car to summon the aid of a Bedford physician but the woman was dead by the time he and the doctor returned to the scene. Officer Rook said that Miss Foor had been in apparent good health and left no notes to indicate her reason for taking her life. Florence Marie Foor was born October 3, 1907 at Cypher (Hopewell Twp). She was the daughter of James P. Foor of Cypher and the late Minnie E. (Bollman) foor. Her mother died in 1950. In addition to her father, she is survived by a brother, Gerald, of Cypher, and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Whitfield and and Miss Nellie Foor, both of Hopewell. Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Conner Funeral Home in Everett and are not yet complete. [Bedford Gazette, Bedford, PA, October 31, 1953]

OBIT: Florence Marie Foor. Funeral services for Florence Marie Foor, 46, of Bedford township, who apparently committed suicide at her home Friday afternoon, will be held Monday morning, Nov. 2, at 10:30 o'clock at the Conner funeral home, Everett, the Rev. Coy Foor officiating. Interment will be in Bethel church cemetery. Miss Foor was born Oct. 3, at Cypher, Hopewell township, the daughter of Jacob [sic] and Minnie E. (Bollman) Foor. Her mother died in 1950. In addition to her father, she is survived by a brother, Gerald, of Cypher, and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Whitfield and Miss Nellie Foor, both of Hopewell. Membership was held in the Kearny Union church. [Bedford Gazette, Bedford, PA., Nov. 2, 1953]

"A four-year-old Everett Rt. 2 girl suffered a broken collarbone Friday afternoon when she dashed across the road into the path of an oncoming motorist. Marie Marie Foor, daughter of Mrs. Geraldine Marie Foor, was playing across the highway from her home, located along old Route 26, near Tatesville. When her mother called her, she rushed onto the highway from behind a clump of shrubs. Driver of the auto was Mrs. Minerva J. Eichelberger, also of Everett Rt. 2. According to State Police, she applied her brakes on seeing the child, but was unable to avoid striking her. The right front bumper caught the girl as she was almost across the road. Mrs. Elichelberger took the child and her mother to Bedford County Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for a fracture of the right collarbone, cuts on the right side of her forehead and brushburns of both legs and arms. She was not detained at the hospital. State police termed the accident, which occured at approximately 4:15 p.m., unavoidable and said no charges would be brought." BIRTH: Birthdates differ from informant and obituary, as does the wife's maiden name.

"Last Saturday, November 22nd, my grandpa, Melvin John Foor, died at age 81. He was born January 30, 1916. He was a farmer all his life-- he worked the fields ever since he was able to walk. He and his four brothers were poor growing up, but they "ate good" and learned the values of family and hard work. He was married to my grandma Irene in 1946 and continued to work hard on the farm and in local government. He had three daughters--the youngest of which was my mom.
My grandpa was very special to me. I can't possibly put into words what he
meant. He lived right next door all of my life, and there wasn't a day that
went by that grandpa wasn't poking around in my business. He loved us all very much and there wasn't a thing in the world he wouldn't do for us. My grandpa never had much of a formal education, but I'll tell you that I learned more from that man than I ever will in school or college. From him, anyone could form a model of the perfect husband, father, and grandfather. He was my hero. I will miss him greatly.
Grandpa, I know you always hated these computers, but I know you can see this
now... Thanks grandpa.. for everything you ever did and will ever do for us."
The above was published on grandson Jeff Shannon's website, and used with
permission.

[28432] 1971 - Marriage Licenses applied for: Russell O. Oyler, 62, helper, 98 S.
30th St., to Mary K. Rine, 40, 155 Essex St. [Newark Advocate, Newark, Ohio,
June 1, 1971]

NOTE: In Mary's 1971 marriage license, her name is listed as Mary Rine, which means she was already married to a Rine and possibly may have divorced him as he's not mentioned as a surviving NOR a deceased husband in her obit. Two deceased husbands are, though: Russell Oyler and John Devoll. But then that doesn't explain why, after the death of at least Russell Oyler (unknown when she married John Devoll), why she reverted back to a prior married name of Rine.

OBIT: Mary K. Rine
Feb. 22, 1931-Aug. 31, 2006

A celebration of life service for Mary K. Rine, 75, of Newark, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, with Pastor Bryan K. Grove officiating. Burial will be at Wilson Cemetery.

Mrs. Rine was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Sunbury to the late Chester and Katherine (McFarland) Mears. She passed away Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at her residence in Newark.

She was a member of Maple Avenue Christian Union Church. She also attended the Old Country Church.

Survivors include her three loving children, Rick Rine, Kathy Harless and Babby Rine, all of Newark; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven brothers, John, Joe, Jim, David, Jerry, Bobby and Mark Mears; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Russell Oyler and John Devoll; three sisters, Pat Parker, Donna Mears and Barb Foreman; two nieces, Sandra Foreman and Jeanie Burns; and brother-in-law, Gene Parker.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 179 Granville St. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055. Visit www.CrissSchoedinger.com to sign an online guest book or to send an e-mail condolence.

[8807] MAIDEN NAME/DOB/POB/DOD/POD/DOM: From info submitted to the LDS by Jeffrey Manton Meadows of Liberty, TX, and Delna POWELL of Lake Montezuma, AZ; submission dates unk. Info NOT DOCUMENTED! Info submitted by above also show more children than shown here, including a child named Henry b 1815 and one named Mary b 1817 who are shown as siblings, same parents, and married to each other in 1900 (????). Info is skeptical and anyone reading this wanting more information should use information on this family as a guide only and re-document all information.

NOTE: Four of this individual's children were baptised in "Zion Lutheran and Reformed" church in Bloom twp., Fairfield Co., OH. According to the transcription of the baptismal records, their father's name was "Sebastian". Finding information on a "Sebastian Nicodemus" has not been fruitful, however, I have seen much 'published' research on the Internet showing that an individual named Valentine Nicodemus was in the same area at the same time and had several children -- four of them being the ones named here with the same approximate dates of birth (sometimes they vary by one year, but have the same month and day of birth). Therefore, I have put in Valentine Sebastian as this individual's full name. Perhaps the transcriber to the baptismal records incorrectly transcribed the records, or perhaps it was a middle name he went by.
