In "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS", John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 59, Kramer is talking about his wife whom he married in 1879, "and on that very day of our marriage, in the little house between that of Israel Dum and Joseph Leyndecker", they set up 'housekeeping' in a house belonging to Dum, "who thus became my landlord".

In speaking of the growing resentment against liquor, Kramer says, "The fist notice I had of it was, upon looking out the door on a beautiful spring day, to see a long group of women march by, in double file. Not knowing of the occasion, I watched them stop in front of the building of Israel Dum, which he called his office, and there kneel upon the pavement. They remained in that position for ten minutes or more, and then passed on down the street... "It was the women of two of the churches, the Methodist and the Presbyterian, who had united to visit the dispensers of liquore and there to pray God to influence them to discontinue that business.", "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS", John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 66.

DOB/DOD/POBurial: "Cemeteries of Bloom Township, Fairfield County, OH", Fairfield Co., Ohio, Chapter OGS, 1996, p 202.

NAME: Mentioned in father's 1865 partition records as child and heir. "Partition Record Abstracts, V2, 1851-1900 Fairfield County, Ohio", Fairfield County Chapter OGS, 1988, p 28.

"Across and beyond the public square was the home of Israel Dum, the distiller. He had two sons, Jesse and Oliver, and a daughter who died at about the age of twelve. Oliver died in early manhood. Dum also owned the next house, and I was his tenant during the first year of my married life, my oldest son, Clarence, having been born there. " "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS", John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 30.

Obituary: Rufus Ervin Foor was born in the state of Ohio in 1837, on April 14th. He died at his late home in Delaware August 26, 1918, aged 81y 4m 12d. He was united in marriage to Martha Oyler and had he lived until October 14, they would have celebrated their 61st year of married life. One daughter, Mrs. Alma Brown of Toledo preceded him in death. There remain his wife and eight children: Lando, of the Bellpoint pike; Sherman Clarence of Ross Street; Hugh of Eaton St.; Lillian, with whom he made his home for the past two years on S. Liberty St; and Mrs. Mary Faulhaber, Kate Weiner and Emma Bowers of Toledo. Also one sister, Mrs. Hanna Long of W. William Street and many grand children. He and his family spent part of their life at Lithopolis but moved to Delaware some 39 years ago. He and his wife were members of the Methodist church. Published in the September 13, 1918 issue of a Delaware newspaper. [only 8 ch listed?]

MILITARY: Descendants say Rufus Erwin was in the Civil War. I found an Erwin FOOR who enlisted on March 9th, 1865 at age 28, enlisted in Co. C., 198th Inf Reg of OH, and mustered out at Camp Bradford, Baltimore, on May 8th, 1865. The age at enlistment would make him b abt 1837. Unsure as to whether this info is for "Rufus Erwin Foor", shown here, or Irvin/Ervin Foor who was of the same age and his first cousin.

Death certificate image. Rufus Ervin Foor, 130 South Liberty, Delaware, Delaware Co., Ohio, married, laborer, died Aug. 26, 1918 of cerebral apoplexy at 81y 4m 12d, contributary cause arterial sclerosis. Born April 14, 1837 in OH to George Foor b PA and Hester Cupp b PA. Informant was Lillian Foor of Delaware, OH. Buried Oak Grove Aug 28.

Article reproduced on Broderbund Software's Family Archive CD #177 (Ohio Vital Records #2, 1750s-1880s).

"Mary Glick was a daughter of Philip and Lydia (___) Glick of Amanda Twp., Fairfield County. The Glicks, who were Penssylvania Germans, were very numerous in Fairfield and Pickaway Counties. The Lutheran Church they attended about two and one-half miles south of Lithopolis was even known as the Glick Church. Henry and Mary went to live in Walnut Township, Pickaway County. They had five children, Andrew, James M. (called Monroe), John, Philip and Gideon Bradley. The last named child was a nine-day old infant who died on October 4, 1842. He was buried in the graveyard of the Glick Church. Not too long after the death of the infant Gideon, Henry Bradley and his family migrated to Miami County, Indiana, Butler Township. But Mary died not long survive in this new setting. She died in 1844 and was buried in the Clayton Cemetery. Her tombstone which I saw about 1930, was inscribed 'Mary Bradley wife of H. Bradley died 1844 aged 25 yrs.' According to this, Mary (Glick) Bradley was born about 1819."

SAMUEL MOWERY is a substantial farmer who owns and
cultivates 80 acres of fine land in section 36, Bath township, and is
also proprietor of a farm of 60 acres in Perry township. He was born
January 17,1855, in Pickaway County, Ohio, and is a son of Samuel and
Elizabeth (Gensell) Mowery, both of whom were natives of the county
named.
The family is of Pennsylvania-Dutch stock, although Jacob Mowery, the
grandfather of our subject, was born in Virginia. From that State he
migrated to Pickaway County, and later settled in Allen County, where he
died at the age of 80 years. He and all his children spoke the German
language, and were upright, honorable men and women, whose descendants
today are among the most highly esteemed residents of this county.
Samuel Mowery, Sr., was born in Pickaway County, this State, about
1819, being one of a family of 17 children, eight of whom became
residents of Allen County, viz: Jerry, Amos, Isaac, Joseph, Samuel,
Kate, Esther and Lydia. In early life he learned the tailor's trade, in
which he engaged until after his marriage, when he turned his attention
to farming, at which he was very successful. He came to the county
about 1858 and purchased a tract of land, for the payment of which he
was obliged to mortgage his property for $1,500. Soon after this he
contracted consumption, as the result of an attack of the measles, and
died in his 40th year 18 months after coming to this county. The
deceased left a widow and eight children, viz: John F., of Henry
County, Ohio; Jacob, of Bath township; Henry, of Henry County; Samuel;
Susan, now deceased; Leanna, wife of M. L. Whip, of West Cairo; and
Caroline and Cassie, both deceased. Some years after Mr. Mowery's
death, his sons paid off the mortgage on the farm and continued the
cultivation of the property. Mr. Mowery was a member of the Lutheran
Church and a man who enjoyed the respect of all who knew him. He was
married in Pickaway County to Elizabeth Gensell, born August 15, 1820,
and a remarkably well- preserved lady of 85 years, who resides with our
subject. She was married a second time to a Mr. Shuler by whom she had
one son, E. W. Shuler, a resident of Henry County.
Samuel Mowery, the subject of this biography, has been a resident of
Allen County since his third year, and for more than a quarter of a
century has resided on his present homestead, upon which he has erected
a modern residence, and convenient and commodious out-buildings.
He was married February 17, 1880, to Anna Hanthorn, of Perry
township, a daughter of (James) Ashby and Nancy (Daniels) Hanthorn.
They have no children. Mr. Mowery is a strong Democrat. He is a member
of the English Reformed church, of Jackson township, of which he has
been deacon for the past two years. [History of Allen County, Ohio
