DOM/POM: Catharine Fickle, John Schleich, Mar. 4, 1855. "Fairfield County, Ohio Marriages, V III, 1852-1868", Fairfield Co., Ohio, Chapter OGS, 2006.
Catharine Fickel is somehow related to Rebecca (LANE) CLARK who she's residing with in 1850. Rebecca was the widow of Horatio Clark. In Horatio's will it mentions daughter Hannah Fickel. Is Hannah Fickel the same person as Catharine Fickel? Or, probably more realistic, is Catharine Fickel the daughter of Hannah (Clark) Fickel? Catherine's death certificate lists she's the d/o John Rickel and Rachel Rickel (though the death certificates of two known children of Catherine (Fickel) Schleich list her maiden name as Fickle). I can't find any marriage for a Hannah Clark to a Fickel. I can find a John Fickel in the 1850 census who is 61 in Madison Twp., Perry Co., OH with Rachel 53, Eli 19, Mary 17, and Joshua 15. Could Hannah (CLARK) have been a previous wife? Lineages posted with this John and Rachel show that her maiden name is either Barnett or Dusenberry.

After years of suffering Mrs. A[mon] [Catherine L. HAIMBAUGH] ENTSMINGER passed to her eternal sleep this morning aged 67 years, less a half month.
Catherine L. HAIMBAUGH, her maiden name, was born at Lockwell [sic], Ohio, joined the Christian church at the age of 14, and married her surviving husband, A[mon] ENTSMINGER, fifty-one years ago. To them were born eight children, two of whom, Frank and Mary E. [ENTSMINGER], preceded their mother in death. Those living are John L. and Warren S. [ENTSMINGER], of near Mentone; Henry, Clyde [ENTSMINGER] and Mrs. James [Addie ENTSMINGER] COPLEN, of this city; and Mrs. Charles [D.] [Sallie E. ENTSMINGER] SWARTWOOD, of Frankfort. Two brothers, Conrad and Henry HAIMBAUGH, of this county, and two sisters, Mrs. HOLMES, of Wabash; and Mrs. MEREDITH, of Kansas, also survive.
The family settled in Newcastle township in 1861, and lived there until nineteen years ago when they moved to Rochester. Deceased, before her health failed, was quite active in church and charitable work and as "Aunt Katie" she was widely known as a noble woman.
The funeral will occur at the residence Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock. [April 28, 1837 - April 13, 1904; bur I.O.O.F. cem, Rochester, Fulton Co Ind]

[16317] 1967 - Car Plunges into Creek, Five Persish - Circleville, Ohio - A 36-year-old woman learning how to drive hit the accelerator instead of the brake at an intersection north of here Tuesday night, sending the car plummeting into a rain swollen creek. She and her four children drowned. Her husband, who was teaching her, survived. Vester Phillips, 31, of rural Ashville told authorities he jumpe from the car before it submerged completely in Big Walnut Creek, then tried to rescue his wife and children. But swift current force him to leave the water, he said. Sheriff's deputies recovered the bodies of Ruby Phillips, 36, and sons Gary, 7, and Donald, 3. Bodies of the other two youngsters, Diana 11 and Wendell, 9, could not be found in nearly five hours of searching by scuba divers. Additional divers resumed the search this morning. At one point during the search for bodies, a distraught Phillips, who suffered only minor physical injuries, tried to jump back into the water. He was restrained by sheriff's deputies and onlookers. A shaken Phillips told of climbing back to the road hysterically and trying to flag down four cars that passed. None stopped, he said. Finally, a farmer who lives nearby heard Phillips' shouts. He turned in the first report to authorities. [Athens Messenger, Athens, Ohio, May 17, 1967]
