"I do not belong to the Foor family, but I do have some information on
one of them should you be interested in posting it. I am the Vice
President of the Civil War Plymouth Pilgrims Descendants Society and the
101st Pennsylvania Regimental Historian. Francis L.M. Foor (son of David
Foor and Harriet Kates) was a member of Company D of the 101st
Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He was captured at the battle
of Plymouth, North Carolina on April 20, 1864.
"A newspaper article written by a member of Company D after the war
states Frances died in Andersonville Prison. According to the pension
file of another member of Company D, he died in Florence prison. The men
were transferred out of Andersonville to Florence prison. He could not
have died in 1863, but in all likelihood died in 1864 since that is when
they were in Andersonville and Florence. If you'd refer to our website,
it gives a history of the 101st PA".
"Andersonville is located near Americus, Georgia. There is a National
Cemetery located there. There is a web site for the National Park Service at
Andersonville if you'd like to do a search for it. I don't have the site
address at hand.
"Florence prison is at Florence, South Carolina which is North of Charleston.
There is a National Cemetery there as well. When the Confederate moved the
prisoners out of Andersonville due to the threat of Union forces liberating
the prisoners, they were moved first to Charleston, South Carolina and then
to Florence, South Carolina.
"Odds are Frances Foor is buried in a national cemetery - Andersonville or
Florence. He is in an unmarked grave if he is at either cemetery." Debbie
Shriver, via Internet 11 May 1998

"Ivan Kotzenbue was a sailor in the U. S. Navy before and during the war. he had been in many engagments along the eastern coast of the Confederacy, and could spin many a tale of adventure. A tale which has stuck persistently in my memory has to do with this old sailor. He, perhaps like other sailors, used more or less profanity in his speech. His niece, Milled, on the other hand was very religiously inclined and very prim. Ivan, than an old man, was repairing the roof of his house to which he had combed by the help of a ladder. The hoouse was of two stories, so that he was in great danger when his ladder slipped. he clung to the eaves of the roof supported partly by the slipping ladder. 'Millie! Millie!', he yelled. 'Run, quick, and tell the men at the shop that I am in a hell of a fix.'. Millie ran quickly to the near carriage factory, and themen at the shop got old Ivan safely down. But the Village folk doubted if Millie used his words to describe his danger." "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS", John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 28.
1898 - Feb. 19th edition. Ivan Kotzbue, aged 70 years, died in Lithopolis. He was a sailor and never married. "Genealogical Abstracts from The Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette, V5, 1896-1900", Fairfield County Gen., Society, Jan. 2005, p 68.
1902 - October 2nd issue. The will of Ivan Kotzebue was written June 17, 1897. His nephew George Kotzebue as his only heir. "Genealogical Abstracts from The Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette, V6, 1901-1905", Fairfield County Gen., Society, 2005, p 70.

Benton Ridge, was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, May 14, 1833, son of Daniel and Eliza (Beatty) Powell, natives of Union and Lycoming Counties, Penn., respectively. The Powells come of a long and worthy line of Welsh pioneer ancestry in Pennsylvania. In 1803 Daniel Powell located in Fairfield County, Ohio. The subject of our sketch was reared there, and at the age of twenty-seven came to this county and took up land, clearing and improving a nice farm of eighty acres, to which he has since added nearly 300 acres, making a total of 370 acres of valuable land. He resides on Section 23, Blanchard Township. He married, in 1857, Elizabeth, daughter of John Whitehurst, of Fairfield County, Ohio, and they have a family of two sons and two daughters: Margaret Virginia, wife of Charles Heckerman, farmer, Blanchard Township, and America Belle, wife of John Kizbeth, also a farmer of Blanchard Township. His sons, Sherman Ellsworth and Henderson, are both of the same vocation as their father. Mr. Powell pays considerable attention to the rearm; and breeding of fine bred cattle and hogs. He is a leading character in his locality, of a genial nature, open-hearted, frank and generous to a fault. He has oftentimes been selected by the people of his township and county to represent their interests in the councils of Blanchard Township and the county. He and his wife attend the services of the Methodist Episcopal Church, to which he is a liberal contributor. Mr. Powell has always done a leading share in the support of all measures tending to the welfare of his locality. In politics he is a Democrat."
