"Thomas H. Dill, one of the venerable retired citizens of the fair capital City of Columbus, where he and his wife have their attractive and hospitable home at 20 West Hinman Avenue, has been a resident of Ohio since he was a youth of seventeen years, and where he has made not only a record of successful achievement but has also served as a member of the State Legislature and as major or president of the common council at Lithopolis, Fairfield county. Mr. Dill was born in Kenty Co., DE, in the year 1839, and is a son of Philemon and Rebecca (Hurd) Dill. He is a scion of Scotch-Irish ancestry and the Dill family was early established in Maryland where several of its generations worthily lived and wrought... "In the year 1858 was solemnized the marriage of Mr. Dill and Miss Marian Harris, daughter of Philemon and Jane (Needles) Harris and a granddaughter of George Needles who came from his native state of Delaware to Ohio in 1803, and became one of the first settlers -- in fact the first taxpayer-- in Fairfield County, where he reclaimed from the forest wilds a productive form in Bloom Township, the first Methodist Episcopal Church in that county having been organized in his home. Ancestry.com. History of Ohio. Provo, UT. MyFamily.com, Inc.. 2004. History of Ohio. Galbreath, C. B.. Chicago. American Historical Society. 1991.

"Mr. Dill was born in Kent Co., Delaware, Feb. 7, 1839, a son of Philemon and Rebecca (HURD) Dill, the former a native of Kent county, and the latter of Caroline co., Maryland. ... Mr. Dill... spent the first seventeen years of his life in the state of Delaware and then came to Ohio, where he entered Oberlin college, spending two years as a student in that institution, pursuing his studies through the winter months, while in the summer he followed farming. He also took up the study of law, which he followed for two years, but preferring agricultural work, he abandoned preparation for the legal profession. For eight years he resided in Morrow county, Ohio, where he owned and cultivated one hundred acres of land. In 1866 he came to Fairfield county, but after a year returned to Morrow county, living upon the old homestead farm of one hundred and sixty acres, belong to his wife. When six years had passed he removed to Westerville, Franklin county, Ohio, where he remained for four years and in 1877 took up his abode in Bloom township, Fairfield county upon a farm which remained his place of residence for ten years. ... He was the chosen delegate from Ohio to the western council congress, which met in Kansas City, April 14, 1891, and was made chairman of the committee on organization, composed of seven members, who had the power of appointing the speaker of the house... He has been president of the school board of Bloom township for several years and for a period of six years was mayjor of Lithopolis, his administration being practical, progressive and business-like, and giving eminent satisfaction.

"In 1858, Mr. Dill was united in marriage to Miss Marian, a daughter of Philemon and Jane (Needles) Harris. Their living children are: Willard, a resident of Lafayette, Indiana; Philemon C., of Harrisburg, Ohio; and Nellie who is a teacher of Columbus. One daughter, Eravelda, died in 1877 at the age of 18 years. "A Biographical Record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio, S. J. Clarke Pub., Co., 1902, pp 240-242.

[8323] NAME/DOB: From Erin Barnett via June 1999 email. (twin to Glenn David Foor).

LOCATION: listed in 2002 Alliance, Ohio, Municipal court website, with a Sebring, Ohio address.

From ABC 33 WYTV website:
A Smith Township family is devastated after their two-year old son allegedly shot himself in the chest Thursday morning.

When police got to the home just outside of Sebring, they found two year old Jacob Foor with a gun shot wound to the chest.

He was immediately rushed to Alliance Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jacob's mother, twenty three year old Amanda Saunier and father, twenty four year old Douglas Foor, a part time patrolman with the Minerva Police Department, were home at the time.

Officials say the gun found at the scene was fully loaded, but not Foor's on duty fire arm.

However, it's still unclear how the two year old got hold of the weapon.

May have died before 1904, as husband is shown in the 1910 census married to someone else for 6 years.

(left blank), farm laborer

NOTE: in the 1910 census, Elnora's husband, Henry March, is married to someone else and his children are living with him. Because the children are with him, my guess is that Elnora may have died prior to the taking of the 1910 census. There is an Elnora March listed as 31 years old who died in Logansport, Cass Co., IN on April 11, 1902. This may be the same Elnora March.

"Nathan Rawn was married February 11, 1866 to Laura Coffman, daughter of Samuel and Jane (Allen) Coffman. She was born January 29, 1846, in Fairfield County. The children who blessed their home are: Mary Jane, by whom she has one child, Verna M., who lives with her parents; Alice, who was born September 13, 1868, married John Bowers March t, 1888, and is the mother of four children, -- Harry, born April 6, 1889; Myrtle, born February 11, 1891; Arthur, born February 6, 1893; and Ray, born August 21, 1898 -- Nora Rawn, the third child, was born July 4, 1870, and married Henry March, September 6, 1888: they have three children, -- Charles, born in June 1889; Carl, born June 18, 1891, and Rosie, born in November 1893."

"Nathan Rawn, a soldier in the Civil War, is a man to whose enterprising and progressive disposition the State of Indiana is deeply indebted for much of her present prosperity. It was our subject who braved the displeasure and deep-seated prejudice existing among the early settlers against tiling, and he converted a tract of undesirable, low, swampy land into a farm of great productiveness, and is among the leading farmers in Pulaski County, Indiana, whose opinion is respected and followed by his less experienced neighbors.

He was born February 23, 1839, on a farm in Greenfield Township, Fairfield County, Ohio, and a son of Joseph and Mary (Fisher) Rawn. Joseph Rawn, Sr., his grandfather..."

From the Rawn message board at ancestry.com 23 Oct 2007: The Myrtle (child of Alice Rawn) that is mentioned in the biography;

"Alice, who was born September 13, 1868, married John Bowers March t, 1888, and is the mother of four children, -- Harry, born April 6, 1889; Myrtle, born February 11, 1891; Arthur, born February 6, 1893; and Ray, born August 21, 1898 -- "

should not be Myrtle. This child was actually a male child named Murl. He was born Feb 10, 1891 in Pulaski county, indiana and died in june 1970. He was married to Ocie Lowrie on October 20, 1914 in Pulaski county, and had at least one child named Sylvia.

I do not descend from murl, but just wanted to set the record straight as it is sometimes very difficult to correct a written record."
