NOTE: Info submitted to Gencircles.com in 2002 by "findingrpast" (no name of submitter besides that) incorrectly shows that "Amelia Beryl Foore" was the husband, and "Ethel Blaine Cornelius" was the wife, and d/o Ulysses Simpson Grant Cornelius and Lillie Ann McNeil. DOB/DOD came from this submitter, but s/he does not specify any locations of birth, death or burial.

Censuses show that Amelia Beryl was female, and 1930 census with both show "Ethel B. Cornelius" was the male and head-of-household. The word "Ethel" looks more like "Othel" to me, but image hard to read. His parents are residing nearby in the 1930 census.

NOTE: Info submitted to ancestry.com by Jan Farrenburg, May 2005, shows name as "Ithel Blaine Cornelius" and that he was born in Huntingdon Co., PA, the s/o Ulysses Simpson Grant Cornelius and Lilly Ann McNeil.

POB: HISTORY OF FAIRFIELD AND PERRY COUNTIES, OHIO, THEIR PAST AND PRESENT, Compiled BY A. A. Graham, W. H. BEERS & CO. 1883, p 292.

CRUMLEY, DANIEL, farmer, Lithopolis, Ohio; was born December
11, 1807, in Bloom township. Fairfield county, Ohio; son of Christian
and Sarah (Kiser) Crumley, who were born in Union county; Pennsyl-
vania, and came to this township along with its very earliest settlers.
Daniel Crumley was married to Miss Jane Betcer, who was born July
5, 1811, daughter of Peter and Rachel (Ray) Betcer. Their family
consisted of fourteen children, of whom five only are still living. Mr.
Crumley served as Justice of the Peace twelve years in Bloom township,
and has filled the office of trustee at various times. Mr. Crumley has
been intrusted with the settlement of twenty-five different estates in this
and Pickaway counties, which speaks well for him as a man. He has
always run the farm, and at times been engaged in buying stock, and
for fair dealing and honesty, he has but few equals in the county.", HISTORY OF FAIRFIELD AND PERRY COUNTIES, OHIO, THEIR PAST AND PRESENT, Compiled BY A. A. Graham, W. H. BEERS & CO. 1883, p 292.

"Daniel Crumley, in his 76th year, married a second wife, Mrs. Buckstone of Alexandria, On October 2nd", published in the 15 Oct 1884 issue, "Genealogical Abstracts from The Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette, V 2, 1874-1884, Fairfield County Gen., Society, March 1998, p 103.

"Daniel Crumley, late of Bloom township, was a son of Christian Crumley. He was born in Bloom township, December 11, 1807. He married Miss Jane Beeten [sic], daughter of Peter Beeten [sic]. She was born July 5, 1811. Their children numbered fourteen and nine of them preceded him to the grave. Those living at the time of his death, November 30, 1891, were Mrs. A. W. Killits of Chicago., IL.; Mrs. T. J. Arnold, Lancaster, Ohio; Mrs. W. H. Stallsmith, Girard, Ohio; E. M. Crumley, Springfield, Ohio, and A. I. Crumley, Lithopolis, Ohio. Daniel Crumley was a very prominent and useful man in his township. He was Justice of the Peace for twelve years, and was for several years a township trustee. He was a very competent administrator on estates, and settled up twenty-five in his life time. His second wife was Mrs. Buxton of the county of Licking.

Mr. Crumley was an upright, honorable man, widley known and highly esteemed. He was a brother of Conrad Crumley of Hocking township, and grandfather of Frank Crumley of the Lancaster Gazette." (the following is from the above cited book)
"RECOLLECTIONS OF DANIEL CRUMLY (sic), OF BLOOM TOWNSHIP. My father, Christian Crumly, came from Pennsylvania in 1802 or 1803 and settled in Bloom township, one mile south of Greencastle, on the head of the Hocking river. He had previously entered land, and in settling down in the first place, he supposed he was on his own land, but after a year or two in his first cabin, he made the discovery that he was on the wrong land, when he abandaned his cabin and moved over on the other side of the stream, which was on the west side. On this place he lived until the time of his death, which was in the year 1856, if my memory is correct.

At my earliest recollection, our neighbors were the following families, as near as my memory serves me. There may have been a few that I cannot recall, probably not many; Father Courtright, who was the fathe rof Jesse, Abram and John Courtright; Daniel Glick, John Ritter, Mr. Bright, Horatio Clark, Mr. Alspaugh, who was the father of George, John, Henry and Jacob Alspaugh; John Solt, Mr. Roler, the grandfather of Henry and Elijah Roler, now living; Peter Lamb, father of the present Peter Lamb of Bloom township; John Swartz, Father Elias Swartz, still in Bloom; Mr. Thrash, father of Eli Thrash; Rev. Mr. Bennadum, father of Philip and Peter Bennadum; Mr. Morehart, father of John and Christian Morehart; Martin Bogart, Mr. Cries, father of John Crites, late of Bloom township; Simon Crites, father of Samuel Crites, still of Bloom township; Mr. Homrighouse, father of John, William and Philip Homrighouse; Hugh Scott, father of James Scott and father-in-law of F. A. Boving, of Lancaster; Mr. Mesmore, George Crowley, James Donaldson, Mr. Gordon, Henry Leaphart, John Fellows, father of Joshua Fellows, still of Bloom township, and father-in-law of Coonrod Crumley, of Hocking township; Frederick Fellows, father of Coonrod Fellows, at present of Bloom.

"Frederick Baugher was proprietor of Lithopolis, which he laid off in about 1815. An addition to the town was afterward made by Solomon Baugher. The place was at first named Centerville. A Presbyterian Church was established there at a very early day, and later by the Methodists and Lutherans. The first church built in Bloom township was the Glick Church -- Lutheran and German Reformed.

"Abram Haines was a very early settler of the township, and is still living. Mr. Needels, father of B. J. Needels, still of the township, was also among the first settlers. Daniel Hay was the father of Isaac Hay, who still resides on the home place. Adam Snyder was an early settler.

"Our first mill was the rock-mmill. The first structure there was built by Loveland and Smith, and was set low down among the rocks. The grists were taken in at the gable-end and let down to the hopper with ropes, and then raised to the level by the same means.

"The first still-house in Bloom township, that I can remember, was built by J. D. Courtright. It was at the Stump Spring, between Lancaster and Greencastle. The first school I attended was a little log-cabin on the bank of the Hocking. It has oiled paper for window-lights.

"The wolves came in a large flock around our smoke-house in the night, and the conch shell was blown to frighten them away. [ Complete History of Fairfield County, Ohio, By Hervey Scott, Published by Siebert & Lilley, printers, 1877

[17011] "PETER B. PONTIOUS, one of Salt Creek township's representative Men and old and honored citizens, has resided on his present farm of 102 acres, situated in section 31, for almost a half century, coming here in 1858. He belongs to a family which came very early to Ohio, bringing his habits of Pennsylvania thrift. He was born in Ross County, January 8, 1832, and is a son of Andrew and Mary (Betzer) Pontious. The grandfather of Peter B. Pontious was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and removed thence to Ross County, Ohio, where he engaged in farming in Green township.

Andrew Pontious was born in Ross County, Ohio, was there engaged in farming all his life, and died there in February, 1880. He married Mary Ann Betzer, who was also born in Ross County, and they had 12 children. the six survivors being: John R., of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; Frederick B., of Lawrence, Kansas; Peter B., of this sketch; Jane, wife of Reuben May, of Ross County, Ohio; Sarah, wife of Martin Socin, of Chillicothe; and Andrew J., of Salt Creek township.

Peter B. Pontious spent boyhood and youth in Ross County, attending the best schools in his neighborhood, and learning the practical facts about farming and stock-raising on his father's farm. Agricultural pursuits have continued to be his business and pleasure all his life and his well-cultivated farm testifies to the careful tillage it has received.", "History of Pickaway Co., Ohio, and Representative Citizens", Van Cleaf, 1906, p 490.
