Mary Stump Hoy's obituary printed in the Shelbyville Democrat on March 10
1892 reads:
Mrs. Mary Hoy, wife of David A. Hoy, died at her residence in Pickaway
Township, Shelby Co, IL, Feb 22, of la grippe, aged 75 years, 6 months and
20 days. She was born in Fairfield Co., OH, 1816. she was twice married,
her first marriage was to Peter hoy, who was accidentally injured while
going home from a class meeting, Aug 12, 1837, from which he died the next
morning. From this marriage one son was born, Rev. Simon P. Hoy. Her
second marriage was to David A. Hoy, who survives her at the age of 84
years. Her first and second husbands were brothers. To the second marriage
seven sons and three daughters were born, all living. There are 33
grandchildren and 6 great granchildren. In 1840, she with her husband,
moved from Pickaway Co, Ohio to Putnam County, Ohio, where they lived for
three years in a wilderness, in a cabin, six miles from a wagon road. In
1843, they returned to Pickaway County, OH, and in 1854, on the 6th day of
October the family reached Shelbyville, Il., and have resided there ever
since, in the locality where she died. At the age of 18 years, Mother Hoy
was converted to Christ and joined the M. E. Church. In the year 1857 or
1858, she united herself with the United Brethren Church, in which she lived
a consistent life and died a triumphant death. The great characteristic
principle of her life was kindness. No human being or even animal was
allowed to suffer if aid from her was possible. As a christian she was
devoted to Christ, rather than to any denomination. Often in the night when
all the family had retired to sleep, her voice would awaken some member of
the family by pleading in prayer in the garden or orchard, for herself and
family. she was a great sufferer from a physical infirmity. But all is
changed- no more suffering, no more prayer, all is turned to praise- mother
is in heaven. This is the first death in the family in fifty- five (or 33)
years, although three of the sons were in the army.

Notes on David Andrew-
Someone did a cemetery lookup and says the date of birth is in May. I've
found some mistakes on cemetery markers before, so am not sure if this is a
mistake or not.
According to his wife's obituary, David Andrew and his family moved from
Pickaway Co., OH in 1840 to Putnam Co., OH where they lived for three
years. They lived in a wilderness, in a cabin, six miles from a wagon road.
In 1843 they returned to Pickaway Co., OH and in 1854 on the 6th day of Oct
they arrived in Shelbyville, Il. They resided there the rest of their
lives. About the time David Andrew moved his family to Shelby Co., IL
several other families in the same area of OH as David lived, did the same.
David Andrew is listed in The Combined History of Shelby and Moultrie Cos,

"Simon P. Hoy is now district agent for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, with headquarters at Decatur.... [He is] a native of Fairfield county, Ohio, his birth having there occurred on the 16th of June, 1837. He comes of New England ancestry. His father, Peter Hoy, was born in Pickaway county, Ohio, and there spent a portion of his early life. He was a farmer by occupation and was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He possessed considerable musical talent--a characteristic of the Hoy family-- and had a splendid voice. He died early in life, however, passing away on the 13th of August, 1837, his death being the result of a fall in crossing a stream on his return from church. He was a most devoted Christian gentleman, zealous in behalf of the church and its upbuilding, and his life was ever in harmony with his professions. Although small in stature he possessed great strength. He had married Miss Mary Stump, a daughter of Joel Stump, who removed to Ohio from Pennsylvania when a young man, first settling in Pickaway county. He spent the remainder of his life in the Buckeye state. He was a man of great moral worth, of unquestioned honor and integrity and of high ideals as to family life. He was of German lineage and was a member of the Lutheran church which was also the faith of his ancestors. His daughter, after losing her first husband, was again married in 1839 to David A. Hoy, a brother of her first husband. By him she had ten children who reached years of maturity, namely; John B., who served in the Civil war as a member of Company H., forty-first Volunteer Infantry; Joel W., who was also a defender of the Union during the Civil war for three months; Katherine E.; David W.; Jacob M.; Joshua; Albert; Mary E.; and Julia, the wife of John W. Jinks. All of the family are living. Past and present of the city of Decatur and Macon County, Illinois. Chicago: S.J. Clarke Pub. Co., 1903, pp 703-704.
