Saturday, November 18, 1916

While at the dinner table Friday, Lafayette FENSTERMAKER, 63, a well known farmer living northeast of Rochester, suffered a stroke of paralysis which caused his death 12 hours later. Mr. Fenstermaker had been in the best of health and spent the morning shucking corn. After the attack, which was his second in 15 years, he was able to recognize members of the family for several hours and then gradually sank to death.
Mr. Fenstermaker was born in Hancock Co., Ohio, Dec 27, 1852, and came here when about seven years old with his parents, George and Eliza FENSTERMAKER, who are both dead. Thirty-eight years ago, Mr. Fenstermaker went back to Ohio where he married Miss Etta BRICKMAN, returning to Fulton county to settle on a farm east of Rochester. They were the parents of five children, four of whom are living: Mrs. Viola FUNK of near Rochester, Mrs. Mada BOWMAN who lives northeast of Rochester, W. L. FENSTERMAKER of Kokomo and Roy FENSTERMAKER, who lives at home. He leaves one brother, Allen FENSTERMAKER of Hammond, Ind. The wife is living.
During his residence here, Mr. Fenstermaker was closely identified with the Pleasant Valley church serving a number of years as trustee and for the last 12 years as janitor. Funeral, Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Pleasant Valley church. Burial at the Odd Fellows cemetery in Rochester.

Note that the obit says he was born in Hancock co., Ohio... if so, that means they came back by 1853 when he was baptised. Probably more accurate is that he was born in Fairfield county and later went to Hancock county.

"Mr. and Mrs. Peer are the parents of three children, Alvah L., Clarence and Ethel. All of them received their education in the McCracken schools, and all of them had certificates to teach before they were old enough legally to take up that work. Alvah L., who now resides at Oklahoma City, married Bertha Messall and has two children, named Juanita and Philip. He was graduated from the Kansas Wesleyan Business College at Salina in 1900, is an expert pen artist, and his proficiency in that line made him a very capable teacher. He taught in a business college at Savannah, Georgia, also in the Houston Business College in Texas, then became associated with W. B. Elliott as a commercial teacher in Charleston, West Virginia, and from there moved to Wheeling, West Virginia. From Wheeling he went to Tonkawa, Oklahoma, being one of the faculty in the State Normal School there five years. On leaving the school room to take up other business he moved to Oklahoma City, but there again was attracted to commercial work as one of the faculty of Hill's Business College. He is now in business in the development work of the oil and gas fields." A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans, written and compiled by William E. Connelley, Secretary of the Kansas State Historical Society, Topeka. [Revised ed.] Chicago: Lewis Publishing Co., 1919.

OBITUARY: An obituary was published for Alvah Leroy Peer in the 05 Jan 1967 in the Denver Post on page 34. An index was published online and is titled Denver Public Library 1965-1969 Obituary index.
