"Thomas Cole... acquired his early education in the common schools of his township and when he had mastered the branches of learning there, he matriculated in the academy at Greenfield, Ohio. Afterward he assisted his father in carrying on the home farm until he had attained the age of manhood. Even then he remained on the old homestead until his marriage, at which time he purchased a portion of the farm upon which he now resides, having made it his home continuously for half a century... In February 1852, Mr. Cole was united in marriage in Pickaway county to Miss Mary J. Courtright, the daughter of Jesse D. and Sallie (Stout) Courtright. "Jonathan & Maria FUHR" are sponsors for the baptism of "Heinrich ALSPACH" bap 28 Apr 1833, b 08 Feb 1833, s/o Heinrich & Eva ALSPACH, "Churchbooks of the Betzer Union/Zion Reformed Church 1817-1881, Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co OH", Fairfield Co Gen Society, 1994 p 23
*** It appears Johannes FUHR was first married to a Maria _____ who
bore him at least 9 known children who's baptismal records appear in the
Salem/Glick Lutheran church records. Then I assume Maria died sometime on or
after the baptism of Marilyn on 22 Apr 1837, as Johannes is then listed with
a Sarah who is 17 years younger than him, and 3 years older then his oldest
son Joseph.
Although his 2nd wife Sarah is much younger than him, and might be erroneously assumed to be his child, baptismal records show a "Johannes and Sara" had children, and census extractions show the two residing together in what appears to be a husband/wife relationship.

1937 question - In the obituary of Mrs. Clara Keen [age smudged... 68, 88, or 98] it states she has 13 sons and one daughter and died at the Keen residence. Surviving are one daughter, "Mrs. Osie Foor", and then names the thirteen sons by first name only, implying they were all KEENs. She was born in Germany. I have Osee married to a HODGE, which I know to be correct. Was this KEEN woman a subsequent marriage? Obit published in the Hammond Times, Hammond, IN., August 29, 1937.
1938 - Family Split is Revealed in Land Suit. An unusual case is on trial in
Porter circuit court before Judge Charles W. Jenson and a jury. Stanley
keen, of Vaparaiso, an emple [sic] of the Continental Diamond Fibre company,
and his ten brothers are plaintiffs, and his sister, Mrs. Rose Foor and
husband, Ocie Foor, of Whiting, are defendants. The suit, which was begun
Monday, and is expected to last the balance of the week, involves quieting of
title to the plaintiff's share in a 180-acre farm in Jackson township, Porter
county, owned by Mrs. Mary Keen, mother of the parties. Mrs. Keen died in
August 1927. The plaintiffs are contesting a deed which Mrs. Mary keen,
their mother, executed to Mrs. Foor in July 1936, on the theory that Mrs.
Keen was of unsound mind at the time and the daughter exercised undue
influence over her. Loring and Douglas, of this city, are representing the
plaintiffs, and Frank Galvin, of Hammond, is counsel for the Foors. [Vidette

"The community was saddened Thursday of last week when the death of Mrs.
Joseph SAMPSEL, north of town, was learned, but rejoiced too, that she could
be relieved of her suffering, as she had been afflicted with cancer the past
six months.
Miss Minerva HART and Joseph SAMPSEL were married over fifty years ago. She
was born in Fairfield county, O., Dec. 18, 1843. Three daughters and one son
are living, who are: J. C. SAMPSEL and Mrs. Ella McCARTER of Kokomo, Mrs.
Rosa TRACY and Mrs. Minerva BOWERS of this place. There are three
grandchildren.
The funeral service was held in the Christian church here Saturday afternoon,
where Rev. THORNTON preached a wonderful sermond, and well could he do so,
for Mrs. Sampsel was certainly a splendid subject, as her many friends can
testify to her faithful Christian life. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F.
cemetery where the Rebekah Odd Fellows performed their rites as Mrs. Sampsel
was a faithful member of the order." [Rochester Sentinel, Rochester, Indiana,

The following is from George Krueger, Feb. 2008 emails:
"I am doing research on my family and have been able to trace them back to living on a farm outside of Lockville in Fairfeild county. My grandfather was David Christian Krueger, his wife was Anna Regina (Beckman) Krueger and children were Augusta Maria, Caroline Louise, and Carl Frederick William. They arrived in Lockville, Ohio in 1863 from Prussia and lived for a short time with David's sister Mary (Krueger), I do not know the last name. David did farmwork for an Andrews family and later a farmer named Crumley who later allowed him to sharecrop on the farm. Family members also worked for a Mithoff family that owned a distillery in Lancaster. I have found the mother and children listed in the 1870 Bloom Township census spelled Keiger and the 1880 Amanda Township census spelled Kruger. I believe that David died from over working in flooded farm fields in the late 1860's and would be b uried in Fairfield cnty somewhere close to Lockville. I know that Augusta married a Levi Oman in 1884 in Columbus and moved to Kansas. The rest of family moved to Ks in the 80's.
"I do know a little more about the family. They arrived from Prussia on the ship Deutschland on the 2nd of Nov. 1863. Father was David Christian Krueger, b. in 1820, his wife Anna Regina (Beckman) Krueger b. Sept. 2, 1820, 2 daughters, Augusta and Caroline, born respectively in 1848 & 1850, and a son William, born in 1855. I know that they came to Lockville as David had a married sister who had immigrated to Lockville a few years before. I do not know her married name. I also know that David's brother came to the U.S. a few years later but they never made contact in the U.S.
I have found the burial places of the mother and all 3 children, all in Kansas, just haven't been able to locate David."
We feel the David Kreger, who died Feb. 1, 1870 aged 49y 9m 20d and is buried in Lithopolis Cem., is probably the "David Christian Krueger" listed here.
