1927 - August 17, p 1. J. M. GLICK Passes Away - End Comes Suddenly to One of Best Known Farm Men in Fairfield County. Mr. J. M. GLICK, 62, one of the most prominent stock dealers in Fairfield County, passed away at an early hour this morning in his Bloom township home. Demise is said to have resulted from peritonitis, following an attack of acute indigestion. The deceased, who had been ailing for the past two weeks was seized with an unusually severe attack last Monday at a Columbus packing company office, became very ill and was brought back to his home. Besides the wife, Mr. GLICK is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank BUSBY, of the home and Mrs. Powell BOYER of Dallas, TX. There are also four grandchildren, two brothers, Charles of Bloom twp., and George of Gallatin, TN, and two sisters, Mary GLICK of Canal Winchester and Mrs. George SHULTZ of Lawrence, KS. Funeral services will be held Saturday 2 p.m. from the late home with burial in Lithopolis cemetery by WEISER and KISTLER, Lithopolis undertakers. For 20 years Mr. GLICK was a member of the Fairfield County Fair Board, serving two years as its president. His death leaves a vacancy on the board of trustees of the Children's Home. LANCASTER DAILY EAGLE, Lancaster, Ohio.

1927 - August 22, p 1. Thousand Attended J. M. GLICK Funeral - it was estimated that a thousand were in attendance Saturday at the funeral of J. M. GLICK, prominent Fairfield County stock dealer, who died Wed. at his home in Bloom twp. The Revs. Lambert REDELFS, of Obetz Junction, C. A. RHIEL of Portsmouth and E. BRIDEWEISER of Lithopolis, conducted the funeral services which were held at the home. Pall bearers were W. E. SITTERLY, Alva OYLER, Samuel BEERY, W. K. LAMB, A. M. SMITH, A. H. RUNKLE, Boyd SOPE and Arley HUSTON. Interment was made in the Lithopolis Cemetery.

1927 - Sept 10 - "In Memorium" Jonathan M., son of Manasseh and Eliza Glick was born November 3, 1865, in Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio, and departed this life Aug. 17th, 1927, aged 61 years 9 months and 19 days. His active and strenuous life came to a close after an illnes of but a few days duration. On February 16, 1888, he was united in marriage to Alice Alspaugh, daughter of Paul and Lavina Alspach. To bless this happy marriage two daughters were born -- Coral Busby of the home and Magdalena Boyer of Dallas, Texas. Also a daughter who died in infancey. Jony, as he was familiarly known to his many friends was a man of real worth to the community in which he lived. Unselfish almost to a fault, as he had greater concern for the success and happiness of his friends than for himself. He was untiring in his life's work, which was that of a farmer and stock dealer. His business brought him in contact with men to such an extent that he was perhaps the best known farmer in Fairfield county. His business was built on honesty and fairness which principle won for him the respect and confidence of scores of his fellow farmers. His life was not all give to business. He took an active part in matters pertaining to our public welfare. He endeavored by careful study of condition to do his part as a citizen to keep our country the best place in the world to live. He was not only interested in the best things in this life but he was careful to give due consideration to the necessary preparation for the life to come. He received his inscrutions in the Lutheran faith by his pastor, Rev. Reihl and later became a member of the Marcy Lutheran church by confirmation during the pastorate of Rev. Lammert Redelfs. At the time of his death, he held the office of Elder of his church. He leaves to mourn their loss his widow, two daughters, four grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters and a host of relatives and friends. That he was a man who had acquired a large number of friends was clearly manifested by the immense throng that attended the funeral, that was conducted from the home by his pastor, Rev. Brideweser. His former pastors, Rev. Reihl of Portsmouth, A., and Rev. Redelfs of Valley Crossing, O., were present and commented on the outstanding characteristics of his life. Sometimes his gruff and forceful manner of expression was completely overcome by a great heart full of tenderness and love for his friends. Many were those who expressed themselves as having lost their best friend. May his virtues long live in the memory of his friends.

CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to our relatives, friends and neighbors for the kindess and sympathy shown us at the deat of our husband and father, Jonathan M. Glick. Also for the beautiful floral offerings, the ministers, to those who sang; and the undertaker for his efficient services. [signed] Mrs. Alice Glick, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Busby, Mr. and Mrs. Powell Boyer. [Lancaster Eagle Gazette]

"Frank Busby and C. W. Glick, administrators of the estate of the late J. M. Glick, have filed inventory and appraisement of the same in probate court. Total appraisement of assets $48,182.23", [Lancaster Daily Eagle, Lancaster, Ohio, Sept. 12, 1927]

"Upon first coming to this state our subject [Abraham Ordel] spent two years in Edwards and Tazewell Counties, then, returning to Ohio, was married in Fairfield County to Miss Mary J. Hoshor, who was born there Feb. 8, 1833. Her parents were George and Mary (Litzenberger) Hoshor, natives of Pennsylvania, but of Germany ancestry. They removed to Ohio before their marriage, their wedding also taking place in Fairfield county. The father was born in 1800, followed farming all his life, and departed hence in 1882. The mother is yet living in Ohio. Mrs. O. was reared in her Native county and remained with her parents until her marriage. Of her union with our subject there were born nine children, two of whom, M. Catherine and Edward, are deceased. Those living are Ida B., and George, married, and John, Emma E., William H., Samuel and Franklin at home. After the marriage of our subject he settled with his wife upon a farm in Fairfield County, Ohio, where they remained until their removal to this State. They became residents of Champaign County in 1871, operating on rented land in Philo Township two years before the purchase of their present homestead. Both are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of Raymond Township, of which Mr. O. is Trustee." "Portrait and Biographical Album of Champaign Co., IL", Chapman Bros., Chicago, 1887, p 302.

"John Thrash. Pleasantly located on section 28 in Philo Township, is a finely improved farm of 120 acres, which invariably attracts the attention of the passing traveler through that locality as the home of a prosperous and progressive farmer and intelligent citizen and business man... Mr. Thrash took possession of the above described place in the spring of 1874, coming to this county from Ohio. He is a native of the Buckeye State, born in Bloom Township, Fairfield County, Jan. 22, 1839. His childhood and youth were passed under the home roof, and he remained a resident of his native county until coming to this vicinity. His father, MICHAEL THRASH, who was born in Baltimore Co., MD., was of German-Irish parentage. The father of the latter was a staunch defender of American liberty and put his theories into practice by serving as a soldier in the Revolutionary War upon the side of the Colonists. In fact, he practically gave up his life to this cause, as he contracted a disease in the army which was the cause of his death not long afterward. His son, Michael, the father of our subject, was then a young boy of six or seven years. The mother followed her husband to the silent land a few years later, leaving the orphan boy without other means of support than that of his own hands. Michael Thrash learned the trade of a tanner, at which he worked, however, but a short time, when he left his native state, and going into Franklin County, Ohio, bought a farm, which he sold the following year and then moved into Fairfield County and purchased a tract of timber land in Bloom Township. He cleared the land and brought it to a tillable condition and established a comfortable home in the wilderness where he spent the remainder of his days. He departed this life in 1863, after having arrived at the advanced age of ninety years. He was first married in Franklin County, Ohio, to Miss Cramer, who became the mother of three children, all now deceased. Mrs. T. died in middle life in Fairfield County. Michael Thrash contracted a second marriage in that county, with Miss Rebecca Rush, who was born in Pennsylvania, when she removed when a young woman to Ohio with her parents. The latter, Jacob and Elizabeth (Cramer) Rush, were natives of Berks County, PA., of German descend, and died in Fairfield County, Ohio. The mother of our subject after arriving at the age of eighty years also died in the latter-named county, in 1880. Michael Thrash served through the War of 1812. [ancestry.com.
