Columbia City, Ind. - Mrs. Solomon Fairchild, one of the pioneer residents of Whitley county, died Tuesday afternoon at her home in Jefferson township, death being due to paralysis. The deceased was born in Ohio Feb. 21, 1838, and came to Whitley county fifty-three years ago and since the death of her husband, which occurred several years ago, she had been making her home wit her son, Daniel Fairchild. The deceased is survived by seven children, namely Mrs. Cora Little of Ashland, Ky.; Edward Fairchild of Atwood, In.; Mrs. John Miller, of Huntington; Mrs. Emmaa George, Mrs. Melissa Graves, Addie and Dan Fairchild, all of Whitley county. Two brothers, Henry Smaltz of Fort Wayne, and William Smaltz of Elk City, Okla, also survive. The funeral will be held Thursday. [Fort Wayne News, Fort Wayne, IN., Jan 1, 1913]

This obit seems to have erroneous information in it. Most likely Sarah was born in 1840 rather than 1838, and it says her spouse died several years ago, and he didn't die until 1918.
