[4210]
"Andrew Beck Jr was born in Fairfield County, Ohio 20 Oct 1807. In 1834, he came with his family to Hancock County, and in Amanda Township took up 160 acres of land, which in the course of hard, earnest labor he brought under a fine state of cultivation. He was a man of much strength of character, large hearted and hospitable in the extreme. He was a Democrat and a member of the Lutheran church. His wife was Lydia Fenstermacher, who was born in Fairfield County in 1814; she died in 1868, and he passed away in 1882. Seven of the ten children born to them are now living, and two - Mrs R Alspach and David, are in this county." "A Centennial Biographical History of Hancock County, Ohio",p. 492. Lewis Publishing Co, 1903.

"Andrew Beck and family came from Fairfield County, Ohio, with his brother-in-law, John Fenstemaker, and located on land in this township previously entered by his father, Andrew Beck, Sr., who had taken up several hundred acres. His brother Daniel came out about two years later, and afterward their brothers, Henry, Peter and John, joined the settlement, all locating in what is now Amanda, except Henry whose farm was in Ridge, and included in the territory taken in the erection of Wyandot County. The parents, Andrew and Catherine, did not settle here until some time after the sons, and both died in the township. Andrew, Jr., died near Wharton; Daniel removed to Missouri and there died; Henry died on his farm in Wyandot County; Peter died in this township; John resides in Indiana, and the two daughters, Mrs. John Fenstemaker and Mrs, Jacob Backer, live on their respective homesteads in Hancock and Wyandot Counties" "HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY, OHIO", Warner, Beers & CO., 1886, p 316 - Amanda Twp.

"James C. was married December 6, 1870, to Miss Elizabeth KISTLER who was born in Hancock Co., Ohio, January 8, 1844. When she was ten years old the family removed to this county and settled in Harrison township where she lived until her marriage. Her father, Solomon Kistler, was born in Pennsylvania, and when quite young removed to Franklin county, Ohio, where he lived until he was married. He died Dec. 30, 1870 and the mother Elizabeth (Dove) Kistler died January 6, 1871, just one week after her husband. Both are buried at Pleasant View Cem. They reared a family of 11 children, 6 boys and 5 girls. The oldest and youngest are Methodist Episcopal ministers. Not one of them used tobacco in any form, or alcoholic drinks, or used profane language. The names of the children are as follows -- William R., a missionary at Las Vegas, New Mexico; Susan, wife of Isaac Hosman and living at Oakdale, Nebraska; Reuben, who died in Franklin County, Ohio, aged 6 months; Aaron B., who died at the age of 30 years and is buried beside his parents; Mary A., wife of Jacob Coons who died of lung disease; Sarah J., also died of lung disease, at the age of 22 years; George W., who lives on a farm near Palestine; Henry D., who was married and died in Nemaha Co., KS, leaving one little girl, also died of lung disease; Elizabeth, wife of James C., Rogers; Ada B., wife of Cyrus Gault of Atwood, Harrison twp; Amos H., a Methodist Episcopal minister in IL. The father was a large, strong man, six feet in height and quite an athlete. Mrs. Rogers' maternal grandfather, Henry Dove, was born in Virginia and died in Fairfield County, Ohio, aged nearly 100 years. He was blind and confined to his bed nine years previous to his death. Her grandfather Dove was twice married." [Kosciusko Co., Indiana Biographical and Historical Record, 1887, Lewis Publishing, Chicago, p 274.]
