1989 - "Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker got an earful Friday from a former supporter who accused them of succumbing to the triple forces of greed, lust and power, and two of their associates were sentenced to prison for tax fraud in the PTL scandal.... Earlier, at Jim Bakker's fraud trial, the Rev. Alan Kent Foor, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Beavertown, PA., testified he was a PTL follwer for 11 years before buying a lifetime partnership in the uncompleted Towers Hotel at PTL's resort in South Carolina. He demanded his money back as the scandal began to unfold, saying the Bakkers failed to follow the humble example of Jesus Christ. [Chicago Daily Herald, Chicago, IL., Sep. 9, 1989]

LOCATION: 1990 - Listed as surviving his father who died in 1990. "Rev. Alan K. of Middleburg".

According to Pennsylvania Department of State Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs online database, an Alan K. Foor was issued a real estate license in 1964 which expired in 1988. The employer listed was Percy C. Foor.

The following is posted on the First Congretional Church of the United Church of Christ website, Concord, NH, 2003.
"In the fall of 1984, I was getting ready to leave my first parish in central Pennsylvania, but had not yet been formally called to the church in North Carolina. In Pennsylvania, I was blessed with a cohesive fellowship of pastors who had gathered to ordain me, and then, given me much encouragement and support in my first years of ministry.

That October, we received news that the son of Alan Foor, one of the pastors in that Association, had been killed. He was a highway construction worker, and he'd been hit by a car speeding by his work site. Alan's son was in his young twenties, and he left behind a wife and a baby.

It seemed as if every pastor in the Association came to that funeral. Sitting there, I recall being very much in touch with the scariness of it all. How, I wondered, does a pastor cope with such a loss? When and how will Alan be able to get up into the pulpit again? And, more to that present moment, what can a preacher say at a funeral such as this?

The preacher for that service was the Rev. Horace Sills, our conference minister. Horace had guided me as I has pursued ordination and my first call to a local church. A few years later, he would come to North Carolina to baptize Caleb. Now, Horace himself has gone on to glory. But then, on that hard day, in that packed church, Horace stood up and offered us as his text the passage we heard this morning from the Letter to the Hebrews. "As it is, we do not see everything in subjection to him, but we do see Jesus." Needless to say, Horace's message made a huge impression on me, given that I remember it after nineteen years. Actually, whenever I read this verse, that day and that sermon come back to me with a presence and a vigor that humbles and blesses me. "

2007 - listed as a surviving son, Rev. Alan K. Foor and his wife, Shirley, in mother's July 2007 obit.

2008 - "MOUNT PLEASANT (WJRT) -- (10/24/08)--You can bet everyone is feeling the impact of this economic crisis. But now it seems gamblers are hedging their bets instead of placing them.
And it's taking a toll on Michigan's gaming industry.
The Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant is the latest business that's taken a loss during these turbulent economic times.
Now the casino is offering buyouts to its 4,000 employees. The slowdown at the casino is also affecting nearby businesses.
Workers said they plan on hanging onto their jobs for now, but hope that enough people take the buyout to avoid layoffs.
"Good luck folks, have a good day," said Soaring Eagle employee Lane Foor.
That's a greeting Foor has given thousands of times in his eleven years in the transportation department at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort.
The Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council's offer of a voluntary buyout to all employees didn't come as a shock.
"The whole state is hurting, so it's not a surprise," he said.
And since the whole state is hurting, Foor and his wife Jamie Daniels, who has worked at the casino for nine years, are going to say no to the buyout offer.
"I've got 20 years left to work and I need my job and I can't afford to, you know?" Foor said. "There are not too many jobs in Michigan."
"No. I'm too young, I've been here a long time, and we need our jobs. We need our insurance," Daniels said. [From ABC 12 News website]

[8925] "Across the street from the Elkhorn, however, stands a house whose occupants are well remembered since they were very active in the Village life. When I first remember it, it was the residence of Jacob Lehman. He was a shoemaker, who came to the Village from Middletown, or Oregon, when the hope of that site growing was given up. He was a public spirited man, as were his boys. Can I recall all their names? There were Andrew, George W., Elisha, Perry and Solomon. There were three daughters. These men were so active in the affairs of the Village that they deserve a chapter for themselves. But we must be content with brief sketches. Andrew was a farmer, and did not live in the Village at any time. George W., of course named in honor of the father of our country, was a blacksmith, and intensely interested in political affairs. About his forge gathered many of those likewise interested.... Perry Lehman was the hardware merchant for his lifetime. He was first a partner of Reuben Blackwood, and then of George Wiser. This firm was as widely known as the Village itself. Elisha and Solomon did not spend all their years in the home village, but were there so frequently as to be considered a part.", "THE VILLAGE. DOD/POBurial: Green Lawn Cemetery Burials, "The Fleshman Files", online website March 2006. Name listed as Mary Catharine Stallsmith, 3/19/1838-01/08/1920. Date of birth is same, year is one year off of baptismal records.

DOD/POD: Name listed as Mary C. Stallsmith, V #3158 Cert. #2160. "Ohio Death Certificate Index, 1913-1944", Ohio Historical Society, online ohiohistory.org.

To begin, I only had this info:

"Rosannah [REAM] was born 27 Apr 1826; was married to Wm. Stallsmith. Their
children are John F., who married Mary P. WELSH, William H., who married Emma
Crumley; Catherine Elizabeth, who died young; Charles Edwin, who died in
infancy; Emma C., who married Henry Zangmeister; Joseph L. wedded Minnie
Courtright; Frank L. died young; Minnie and Callie S. are twins... the first
married J. Luther Faler, and the latter Frank Sallee". "History of Fairfield
County and Representative Citizens", Charles C. Miller, 1912, p 333.

I cannot find John and Mary together on any census. I did, however, find some possible connections leading me to believe WELSH was not Mary's maiden name, and that the "P" shown as her middle initial in the above bio is actually for her maiden name of POWELL.

In 1870, Jesse Benson has a Mary Powell residing with him:

CENSUS: 1850 Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH - family #1752
BENSON, Jesse 41 farmer b MD
", Hannah 35 b PA
", Benjamin 14 b OH
", Abram 12 b OH
", Mary 11 b OH
", John 9 b OH
", Hannah 7 b OH
", Ellen 1 b OH
POWELL, Mary 13 b OH

In 1870, he has Mary Stallsmith and some WELSH children:

DOM/POM: John F. Stallsmith and Mollie Welsh, Nov. 3, 1867. "Fairfield County, Ohio Marriages, V III, 1852-1868", Fairfield Co., Ohio, Chapter OGS, 2006.

CENSUS: 1870 Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH; visitation 286/293
BENSON, Jesse, 61y farmer b MD
", Hanna, 54y keeping house b PA
", Barbara, 21y helps mother b OH
", Jacob, 19y farm laborer b OH
", Josina, 19y helps mother b OH
", Clara A., 13y attending school b OH
STALLSMITH, Mary, 33y "moontan maker" b OH
WELCH, William E., 8y attending school b OH
", Liddia B., 11y attending school b OH
", Henrietta, 6y attending school b OH

According to a querie posted on a message board, Jesse Benson's second wife's name was Hannah POWELL. Is POWELL her maiden name, or was it her prior married name? On further investigation, it appears POWELL was her MARRIED name, and that she was the widow of Peter Powel.

In 1858, there's a listing for a Henry WELCH who married Mary POWEL. Dodd, Jordan, Liahona Research, comp. Ohio Marriages, 1803-1900 [database online]. Provo, UT: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2001.

This could explain the WELCH children. Perhaps Mary POWEL(L) married Henry Welch, was widowed, then married John F. STALLSMITH.

In 1860, I found a Henry & Mary:

CENSUS: 1860 Amanda Twp., Fairfield Co., OH, visitation 22/22
WELCH, Henry, 24y farmhand b OH, $100 personal estate
", Mary K. or R., 22y b OH
", Lilly B., 7y b OH

This "Lilly B." child appears as one of the three WELCH children listed with Jesse Benson and Mary STALLSMITH in the 1870 census. Henry WELCH died in 1865 which would have, indeed, left her as a widow. After 1865 she must have married John F. Stallsmith.

CENSUS: 1870 Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH; visitation 286/293
BENSON, Jesse, 61y farmer b MD
", Hanna, 54y keeping house b PA
", Barbara, 21y helps mother b OH
", Jacob, 19y farm laborer b OH
", Josina, 19y helps mother b OH
", Clara A., 13y attending school b OH
STALLSMITH, Mary, 33y "moontan maker" b OH
WELCH, William E., 8y attending school b OH
", Liddia B., 11y attending school b OH
", Henrietta, 6y attending school b OH

CENSUS 1880 Groveport, FrankliN Co., OH; p 277A
STALLSMITH, Mary, 42y widow b OH, dressmaker, parents b PA
WELSH, Etta, dau 15y b OH, parents b OH

NOTE: I don't believe that Mary was widowed in 1870 and 1880. It appears that they were separated and/or divorced.

Death Certificate image. Mary Cathrine Stallsmith, #219 E. Rich St., Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio, died Jan. 8, 1920 of apoplexy, aged 82y, widow of John Stallsmith, born March 19, 1838 in Fairfield Co., Ohio, parents unknown. Informant was Mrs. Lillie Evans of same address. Buried Green Lawn, Jan. 10.
