(Is the George Beck of Lithopolis mentioned in this bio for this George?)
"Mr. Beck came from Switzerland to Lancaster in 1810, with his brother, Jacob Beck Sr. His business was that of a rope-maker, a good trade at that period. He was one of the original members of the Lutheran church. He was, like his brother, a worthy and industrious pioneer, respected and esteemed by his neighbors. He died in the year 1839, the same week in which the death of his brother Jacob occurred. His sons were Jacob F. Beck, the merchant, George Beck, of Lithopolis, and Martin Beck, of Lancaster. His only daughter married Matthew Myers, the merchant. Jacob F. had a family of five sons and two daughters. Fred. Beck, the merchant, and George W. Beck, the cashier of the Lancaster Bank ar ehis sons. Matthew Myers sold out his store and moved to Indiana, where he was accidentally killed. George Myers, late the probate judge of Hancock county, is his son and resides in Findlay". Portrait and biographical album of Champaign County, Ill. : containing full page portraits and biographical sketches of prominent and representative citizens of the county : together with portraits and biographies of all the governors of Illinois and of the presidents of the United States.. Chicago. Chapman Bros.. 1887, p 557.
"On November 3, 1864, Mr. Koch arrived in St. Joseph Township of Champaign County. He had left a sweetheart behind him in the old Buckeye state and on January 19, 1868, he went back to reclaim her. When he left Ohio he was poor but too proud to ask the young lady to marry him until he could provide a home. On returning he told her of the spendid State of Illinois and of its many favorable opportunities, and she was glad to exchange her name from Suzanna Foor to Koch. Returning to Illinois with his young bride Mr. Koch worked as a farmer, and in February, 1881, settled near Mayview where he bought his first land for $25 an acre... Mr. Koch had reared in his home Mary Oyler, daughter of his half brother. One other of his farm hands had lived with him for seven years. Christopher and Elizabeth McCrughen had died in Champaign county leaving seven orphan children, and Mr. Koch was appointed guardian for them. He and his wife subsequently adopted two of the boys, A. F. and J. C., and the daughter E. J. They legally assumed the Koch name in 1893... Nearly 10 years before his own death Mr. Koch was called upon to mourn the passing of his beloved wife on December 3, 1907. She was a woman of many virtues, kindly, sympathetic and charitable, and had been in sympathy with her husband in their love for orphan children. In fact so many fatherless and motherless and friendless found shelter in their home that it was often called "The Orphan House". Mrs. Koch Dies Day After Return. At the home one-half mile east of Mayview Tuesday night occurred the death of Mrs. Susanne Koch, wife of J. A. R. Koch, a prominent farmer. Death was due to diabetis. Although the many friends of Mrs. Koch realized with regret that she was in failing health they little dreamed that the end would come so soon. For the past six years she had not been well, but she had recently been to visit her sister in Shelby county, dying the second day after her return. She was born Feb. 19, 1843 at Fairfield county, Ohio and was married Jan. 15, 1868 to J. A. R. Koch. Soon after their marriage they moved to Champaign county and have lived here ever since. No children were born of their marriage, but she raised three adopted children and was a good mother to them. For many years Mrs. Koch was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Mayview and an active worker in that church. The fineral will be held from the church in Mayview Thursday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. A. M. Wells of St. Joseph and Rev. W. D. McIntosh of Cisco, ILL. OBIT: Mrs. Koch's Funeral Held from First M.E. Church at Mayview. The funeral of Mrs. Jonah R. Koch was held this morning at 11 o'clock from the First Methodist Episcopal church at Mayview, of which church deceased had been an active member. Rev. Mr. Wells, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church at St. Joseph, conducted the services and preached a beautiful funeral sermon. He as assisted by Rev. W. D. McIntosh of Cisco. The funeral was well attended and there were many floral offerings of rare beauty. Interment was in Mt. Olive Cemetery at Mayview. [Urbana Daily Courier, Friday, December 06, 1907, Page: 4 ].

NAME/DOB/DOD/POBurial: "Cemeteries of Bloom Township, Fairfield County, OH", Fairfield Co., Ohio, Chapter OGS, 1996, p 234. "Catherine B. Hensel", b 1832, d 05 Oct 1919 at 87y. Note: There are two on page 380: Catharine B. Hensel 1832-1918 and Catherine Hensel 1844-1919. On page 234 it lists Catharine B. Hensel as born 1832, died Oct. 5, 1919 at age 87, buried 2nd addition part 3 lot 263 grave 3. The other shows 1844-1919 aged 75, next of kin as Charles Hensel, husband.
This makes no sense. The one born in 1844 is probably Jacob M. Hensel's sister. The info on 'next of kin' came from cemetery records, but I'm wondering if the data was put in for the wrong Catherine Hensel.
Catherine Hensel: 1844-1919 aged 75 buried 3rd addition lot 22 grave 1, next of kin Charles Hensel, husband
Catherine B. Hensel 1832- Oct. 5, 1919, aged 87, buried 2nd addition part 3 lot 263 grave 3.
Catherine's brother Jacob M. Hensel is buried in 3rd addition part 1 lot 22 grave 2.
Charles Hensel is buried in 2nd addition part 3 lot 263 grave 4.
This would appear that Charles Hensel and Catherine B. Hensel were husband and wife, and the one born 1844 and Jacob were siblings. I'm assuming at this time that the "next of kin" listed for Catherine 1844-1919 is incorrectly placed.

NAME: "Partition Record Abstracts, V1, 1812-1851 Fairfield County, Ohio", Fairfield County Chapter OGS, 1987, p 21. Case #196 is the estate of Wlkeson LANE of Bloom Twp. Will written November 9, 1813 and filed in 1814 in Will Book 2, page 20. He owned land in section 33, twp 14, range 20. Heirs were wife Jane, son John, daughters Elizabeth, Rebeckah and Mary, plus grandsons James and Elisha Cole, and children of his daughter Rebecca (RACHEL??) Barr who were Wilkinson and Nancy Barr. Administrators were sons-in-law Horatio Clark and James Kelley.
DOB/POB: From info submitted to ancestry.com by Leah Heiden, August 2001.
"... Wilkinson Lane... in 1799 was accompanied by the families of his son, John Corbin Lane, and sons-in-laws James Kelly and Horatio Clark, Sr. It is quite likely that Clark, and possibly James Kelly or John Corbin Lane, had gone to Ohio in advance of the others to scout out good land. Other citizens of Huntington County [PA] soon joined WIlkinson Lane's group. At about this time, Thomas and Broad Cole Sr. and William and Neal Clark also migrated from Huntington county to Wilkinson's neck of the woods in Fairfield County. It is also thought that Lane's son-in-law, Aaron Cole, accompanied the group.

From a letter written April 26, 1887 - "Dear Sir, I thought I would sit down and address you a letter telling you that there are a family of Spurgeons in this part of God's earth, and they are some of them, or were (as they have gone to their reward), ministers. My grandfather, Elijah Spurgeon, was a Methodist minister, and his brother, Jesse Spurgeon, was a Methodist minister. Our branch of the Spurgeon family are all Methodists, except one of my brothers, William Spurgeon, who was a Baptist. I believe that is your Church. In looking over my father's diary I find this item: 'My great grandfather James Spurgeon came from England about the years 1704 to 1710 and was from near London'. My father had three brothers, Jesse Spurgeon, Nimrod, and Asa. My father's name was Moses R. Spurgeon. There were eight of us in my father's house; three died in infancy, two in manhood's prime, and four are left -- my brother, James Spurgeon; my sister, Mrs. Anne Lawson; brother, Rufus Spurgeon; and myself, Eliza Spurgeon Hoys." Letter written to Rev. C. H. Spurgeon. Original data: Higgs, W. Miller. The Spurgeon family : being an account of the descent and family of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, with notes on the family in general, particularly the Essex branch, from 1465 (5 Edward IV.) to 1905 (4 Edward VIII.).
