[T11446]
Bumbarger, George E., Somewhat contrary to expectations with reference to time, yet without surprise in any other particular, Geo. E. Bumbarger passed quietly away last Friday morning. Perhaps a little more than one year ago Mr. Bumbrger went back to Ohio, his native state to visit relatives and friends. Just before starting on that visit he had contracted a heavy
cold which grew more and more........during his whole stay, and about the time of his return a deepseated cough and other symptoms of consumption were plainly visible in his system.
Being a man of iron nerve and very industrious, he pursued his vocation in life as best he could for a time, but constantly grew worse. Finally last summer he was induced to try the atmosphere of the mountains and he went to Colorado, then to Meyer, Arizona, spending some time at the later place. Failing to recuperate his health as he desired he came back home a few
weeks ago to die. For a brief period before death he had seemingly been gaining ground under a new and novel treatment learned from a neighbor. The writer remembers a conversation held with Mr. B. in the Reporter office the day he came home from the west. He said: "I had intended to protract my stay longer, but last Friday night I awoke from sleep and found no more rest that night. Someone seemed to be talking to me, and something said to me, as I tossed upon my bed, 'go home to your family and be with them at the last.'" As he spoke a tear stood in the poor man's eye and his lip quivered as if in deep emotion. He loved life so well - had such an unbounded interest in his family and home, yet realized fully that he must soon say adieu to it
all and go out into a great unknown. He evidently had then before him the thought that all means for the restoration of his health had been exhausted in vain, and that he must die.
The funeral services were held Sunday under the auspises of the I.O.O.F., of this place, aided by members of the Patterson lodge. He had been a member of the former. The M.E. church was crowded to its utmost capacity to hear a funeral discourse. pronounced by Rev. Williams and pay respect to the dead and sympathize with the bereaved. The casket was a beautiful plush one,
on the foot of which was a wreath of roses and the three links. A silver plate upon the center bore the inscription "Our Brother" The altar decorations were very appropriate. Fully 600 people passed by the casket and viewed the remains. The I.O.O.F. ceremony at the grave was witnessed
by an unusually large crowd, where upon all that is mortal of Geo. E. Bumbarger was gently laid beneath "the sod and dew to await the judgement day."
OBIT: Truro, Madison Co., IA - RootsWeb online: George E. Bumbarger was born in Lithopolis, Fairfield county, Ohio in 1851. Came to Iowa in 186? and was joined in marriage to Miss Roxie Rundell in 1879. Their happy union resulted in a family of eight children, one of whom preceeded the father, leaving the mother and seven children. He united with the Christian church in 1879 of which he remained a member until his death, which occurred Jan. 29, 1892 at his home southeast of St. Charles. Since his removal to Iowa his industry and perseverance has been remunerative and he leaves his family well supplied with this world's goods.

LOCATION: 1954 - Delaware - Spencer Foor of Delaware went coon hunting but he found instead the black bear which has been playing hide-and-seek hereabouts lately. Foor hit it with his car. The bear got away, limping, for which Foor was very thankful. He did nothing to stop it. In fact, when he got out of his car to inspect what he hit, he hopped right back in again and locked the doors. Foor thought he had hit a big dog. But the growls coming from the injured critter were not of the canine variety. State Highway Patrolman Robert Harrah said the car probably injured the bear only slightly and added he believes there is no chance it will die of injuries. Wilbur M. Foor
Dec. 31 1917-Dec. 21-2006
Wilbur Foor, a long term resident of Vestaburg, Michigan, passed away at his home on December 21, 2006.
Wilbur was born just before midnight on New Years Eve, 1917, the fourth child/first son of Albert and Harriet Morton Foor. When a boy, his family lived hardscrabble life in Silvania, Michigan where his dad worked on an electric line of streetcars and freight trains. Wilbur fondly recalled double feature movies, large five-cent candy bars, and the NY central passenger train rolling through town.
At the age of twelve, he began partially supporting himself as a caddy, which allowed him to buy his first pair of long pants. At age fifteen, he moved with his father and stepmother to a small farm outside Metamora, OH, where is love of farming and commitment to God's truth began.
He met Myrtle Shattuck, and they married on Jan. 14, 1944. Together they briefly joined a farming cooperative in North Carolina then returned to Michigan and raised four children. After working in the oil fields and at Dow Chemical Company, Wilbur and Myrtle bought and moved their family to a farm southwest of Vestaburg. There they endured loss of a cattle herd to disease and a break to Wilbur's leg that brought neighbors to harvest crops. There they gave their children the gift of growing up on a farm.
Wilbur espoused the golden rule and fairness in all dealings. He was loved for his gentle ways, quick wit, and dedications to truth, which he sought through the Good Book and careful reflection. He was a constant, caring, often comic, companion to Myrtle and devoted father. He is survived by the love of his life for sixty two years, Myrtle Foor; daughter, Joyce Brown of Helen, MT; Donella Peasley of Delford, MI; Garold Foor of Vestaburg, MI, Dennis Foor of Lachine, MI; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Brigham Funeral Chapel (hwy. 46, 3 miles west of Vestaburg) at 1:00pm on Sunday, December 24, 2006.
There will be visitation for Wilbur on Saturday, December 23, 2006 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Alma, MI.

Charles Dale Gribben, 92, of Boise, ID died March 29, 2010 at his Valley View residence of natural causes. Dale was born on February 23, 1918 in Parsons, Kansas, the second of two sons to Charles and Maude Foore Gribben. His father emigrated from Belfast, Ireland as a steam fitter and worked for the Union Pacific and Katy railroads before founding Gribben Motors in Parsons, Kansas circa 1918. Dale graduated from Parsons High School in 1935. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1939. That time began his 75+ years as a raving Kansas Jayhawk sports fan for which he served as Chairman of Southeast Kansas University Alumni Association, the KU Development Committee, and a member of the KU Williams Endowment Fund. Following graduation, Dale worked for Sheffield Steel and Phillips Petroleum both in Kansas City until 1948. He met our Mom, Louise Josephine Brockelman, an airline hostess for TWA, in 1944, and they were married in the Linwood Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri on January 20, 1945. They moved to Parsons in 1948 when he joined his retiring father, our grandfather, Charles, in the auto dealer business selling Buicks and other General Motors brands. Upon returning to his hometown, Dale became very active in the business community and civic affairs serving as President of the Parsons Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club, Chair of the Parsons Industrial Development Fund. Professionally, in his nearly 30 years in the automobile business, he was President of the local new car dealers association, served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Motor Car Dealers, and a member of the Buick and Pontiac national Motor Car Dealers Council. In retirement Dale continued his lifelong love of his daily golf game and many travels with Louise and friends. They were members of the Parsons Wesley United Methodist church. In 2006 they moved to Boise to be closer to their children. Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise; son, Gary (Virginia) of Boise; daughter, Patricia of Oakland, CA; and grandson, Matthew (fiancee', Haley Knowlton) of Santa Clara, CA. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Jack. At Dale's request there will be no public memorial service. An informal Open House will be held at the home of Gary and Ginny Gribben, 2263 Bluestem Lane, Boise.
