1879 - mentioned in bio of father as Carrie, now Mrs. Dinsmore. See full text in father's notes.

1880 census shows a VanEpp or VanEpper family, first name Alden who was born Sep 1875. His wife is Mary J. b Dec 1875 in IA whose folks are both listed as being born in NY. Also listed with them are two brother in law's, Edgar Dinsmore b Dec 1881 and Vernie C. Record b Mar 1894 whose parents are both shown as being born in NY. Since Carrie supposedly married both a Dinsmore and a Record, are these her children even though the place of birth for her is listed as NY? In the 1925 census of Comanche, Clinton Co., IA, Mary Vanepps parents are shown as Hanna Drury and Aaron P. Record, so perhaps the Dinsmore brother was a half brother to her.

PUBLIC OPINION, Chambersburg, PA, July 9, 2004: Boy flown to Hershey after motorcycle crash

SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP -- A 14-year-old Chambersburg boy was flown by Life Lion helicopter to Hershey Medical Center Thursday after a motorcycle accident on Chamberlin Road in Cumberland County.

Mathew Raymond Foor's condition was not available this morning, according to a medical center spokeswoman.

State police at Carlisle said Foor was driving a 1986 Honda Magna motorcycle west on Chamberlin Road at 3:15 p.m. when he lost control of the bike. It left the road, where it hit a pile of dirt. The impact sent Foor and the motorcycle airborne and the boy landed in a field on the north side of the road, police said.

Police said they don't know whether the boy was wearing a helmet. He sustained moderate injuries, according to police.

Cumberland Valley Emergency Medical Services and the Shippensburg Fire Department assisted state police and Life Lion on the scene.

NOTE: Although the 1850 census it appears to say "Soft", I'm assuming that someone's Irish accent may have been misinterpreted by the census taker. It dawned on me when I saw this unknown family in 1850 that there were similarities to the Scott surname. James Scott later shows that both parents were b in Ireland, and himself in PA. The James Scott's 1840 census tends to agree with the 1850 census, too.

From a letter written April 26, 1887 - "Dear Sir, I thought I would sit down and address you a letter telling you that there are a family of Spurgeons in this part of God's earth, and they are some of them, or were (as they have gone to their reward), ministers. My grandfather, Elijah Spurgeon, was a Methodist minister, and his brother, Jesse Spurgeon, was a Methodist minister. Our branch of the Spurgeon family are all Methodists, except one of my brothers, William Spurgeon, who was a Baptist. I believe that is your Church. In looking over my father's diary I find this item: 'My great grandfather James Spurgeon came from England about the years 1704 to 1710 and was from near London'. My father had three brothers, Jesse Spurgeon, Nimrod, and Asa. My father's name was Moses R. Spurgeon. There were eight of us in my father's house; three died in infancy, two in manhood's prime, and four are left -- my brother, James Spurgeon; my sister, Mrs. Anne Lawson; brother, Rufus Spurgeon; and myself, Eliza Spurgeon Hoys." Letter written to Rev. C. H. Spurgeon. Original data: Higgs, W. Miller. The Spurgeon family : being an account of the descent and family of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, with notes on the family in general, particularly the Essex branch, from 1465 (5 Edward IV.) to 1905 (4 Edward VIII.). London: E. Stock, 1906, p 39.

[17082] "Perhaps one of the most sad affairs in the history of the village was the suicide of Martin Zahn, following the horrible sickness and death of his wife, which doubtless led up to it. Zahn was a shoemaker, peculiar maybe, but honest and well-intentioned. There were two children, both small girls, at home, and a grown son in the city. We have every reason to believe it was a happy family, not wealthy, but above want. His trade bringing him a competence. Then the wife was stricken. It was cancer of the breast in its worst form. The flesh simply rotted away from the body. So offensive was her condition before her death that it was impossible to remain in the room with her for more than a moment. She died, leaving Zahn with the two small girls to keep his house in order. His mind must have been affected by the misfortunes which had come upon him. Very shortly his body was found in an outhouse, a rifle lying by his side.", "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS", John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 72.
