"Martin E. Bogarte was born on a farm near the town of Replublic, Seneca county, Ohio, May 3, 1855. On the paternal side he was of French ancestry. His father, Martin V. Bogarte, a son of Martin Bogarte, was born at Lithopolis, Franklin [sic] county, Ohio. Upon arriving at man's estate he was engaged to some extent in agricultural pursuits, and also conducted a good business as a general merchant. Professor Bogarte's mother was nancy, daughter of Archibald Stewart, and was a native of Pennsylvania. Three sons born to the marriage of martin V. Bogart and Nancy Stewart grew to maturity, and of these Professor Martin E. Bogarte, the immediate subject of this review, was the second in order of birth." Source: Original data: History of Porter County, Indiana : a narrative account of its historical progress, its people and its principal interests.. Chicago: Lewis Pub. Co., 1912.
NOTE: There are several lineages posted on the Internet that show the wrong Martin Bogart marrying Tursey/Thursey Donaldson. Many show that THIS Martin married her, when actually Thursey became his step mother as it was the father that married her. The 1850 census shows the father at age 69 residing with Tursey.

NAME/Parentage/DOB/POB: Via email from PAUL F. ROBY, 63020 Merrick Rd., Cambridge, OH 43725-9278; Dec. 1999.
LOCATION: Of Louisville, KY, according to mother's April 2002 obituary.
LANE, DR. EMERY E., 75, was found dead in his home Tuesday, November 14, 2006, the victim of a cruel murder. He was born August 29, 1931, the only child of the marriage of Marita Foor and Albert Lane. He was raised in the small town of Nepton in Fleming County, KY. Albert, who worked for the railroad, was disabled when Emery was a young teenager. Marita supported the family through a beauty shop she operated in the first floor of their home, and through taking in boarders. Emery helped the family doing most of the cooking, an activity he enjoyed and at which he became ever more proficient as the years progressed. Emery and Marita were a very devoted mother and son up to her passing a few years ago. Emery was a veteran of the Korean War and went to the University of Cincinnati on the GI Bill, becoming the first member of his immediate family to graduate from college. Thereafter, he worked his way through the University of Louisville School of Medicine obtaining his M.D. in 1964. He continued with his education at U of L with a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine. Emery practiced medicine in Eastern Kentucky at the Appalachian Regional Hospitals and clinics in Whitesburg and Morehead during the 1960s, where he became involved in social justice issues involving coal miners. He was a recognized expert in the field of black lung and had many published papers in the medical literature regarding pulmonary medicine. A textbook he authored on that subject is still in use. In 1971 he became an instructor of medicine at U of L. He was board certified in internal medicine in 1972. Thereafter, he became an associate professor and clinician at U of L until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, Emery had time to pursue his many interests. He was an avid world traveler and accomplished photographer. He had a lifetime love of music and became a competent organist. He was a disciplined fitness buff and even up to his untimely death he enjoyed hiking and bicycling. When the AIDS epidemic hit Louisville he became involved in social service work to those afflicted with the disease serving on the board of the Community Health Trust and as its president for three years between 1995 and 1997. Throughout his life he was generous with his time and money providing for the needs of several young children and their families. He is survived by his aunt, Virginia Overley, of Covington; his cousins, Fred Roby Jr. of Tucson, Carol Knowlson of Washington, PA, Dale Foor and Connie Ayala, both of Pittsburgh, Marita Fizer and Nancy Rye of Flemingsburg, Marilyn Bunton of Covington and Katherine Warner of Fort Thomas. He is also survived by his foster grandchildren: Memery and Mya Miller, Darion Hayes, and Robert and Jared Poppe; and by his many colleagues and dear friends, most especially Prudence Moffett and Timothy Glasscock. He is remembered for his dry wit, kind heart, artist's eye and compassion for the downtrodden and oppressed. His survivors request that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Emery E. Lane Fund at the UofL Foundation, Inc. or to the House of Ruth. A celebration for his life, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave., with a reception to follow from 3-5 p.m.
Published in The Courier-Journal from 11/16/2006 - 11/17/2006.
