JAMES ALBERT GROVE
James Alvert Grove, a respected citizen of this place, and a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home on Water Street, Everett Pa., on Sunday, February 27, 1927. Death followed a long illness from diseases incident to old age. He was 80 years of age at the time of his death.

James Albert Grove was born in Rays Cove, Bedford County, Pa., on June 23, 1964 (sic), and was a son of Thos. H. and Susan Rinard Grove, both deceased. Of the family of ten children, James Albert Grove was the first to die. The following brothers and sisters survive: Mrs. Anna Cornelius, Everett, Pa.; Mrs. Rachel Davis, Rays Cove, Pa.; Harry C. Goves, Chanute, Kansas; William T. Grove, Everett, Pa.; Isaac D. Grove, Everett, Pa.; Edward Grove, Rays Cove, Pa.; Mrs. Mary Ritchey, Rays Cove, Pa.; Mrs Leander Roush, Rays Cove, Pa.; Fred D. Grove, Rays Cove, Pa.

James Albert enlisted in Company H, 107th Pennsylvania Infantry on April 26, 1864, at the age of 18 years. He was honorably discharged on August 15, 1865. During his residence in this place, Mr. Grove made lasting friendships in Everett. He was well known throughout the county, and his loss will be sorely felt by his family, relatives, and friends.

As long as he was able, Mr. Grove was active in affairs of the G. A. R., of which organization he was a member. He also belonged to the Christian Church.
Mr. Grove was first married to Emma Griffin, who died many years ago, and to this union one daughter survives, Minnie West, of Masontown, Pa.

On (sic) January 1894, Mr. Grove was again married, this time to Belle Foore who survives with the following children: Mrs. Rachel A. Meck, of Hopewell, Pa.; Mrs. Ruth L. Meck, Thomas H. Grove, and Mrs. Edith P. Will of Central City, Pa.; Mrs. Fanny C. Fetters, of Everett, Pa.

"Still more remote from the Village was the farm of Abraham Harris. He was much of a stockman, especially noted in the care of hogs. Thus he came to be known far and wide. His children left eh neighborhood very early, and so did not have much to do with Village affairs. The exception was Philemon, who returned to the Village after an experience in the gold rush to California. I do not know if he had any success, but on his return he bought a farm near Middletown, or Oregon, just beyond Little Walnut Creek, married, Jane, the daughter of Dr. Needels and settled down to the life of a farmer. The Harrises and the Needels were all strong supporters of the Methodist Church." "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS", John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 39-40.
