MORSE JoAnn W. "Jody" Morse, age 74, of Carroll, is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior as of Wednesday, April 2, 2008. Born March 18, 1934, in Bexley, the youngest of 10 children, she was the loving foster daughter of Gerald and Elizabeth Baron. Jody was a graduate of Bexley High School and attended Ohio State University. After her marriage to William M. Morse on December 27, 1953, she enjoyed serving in the community through the Junior Symphony League of Central Ohio, and the Junior League. At the age of 28, Jody trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She believed Ephesians 2: 8-9, which says "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." She served her Lord by teaching Sunday School at Greencastle Bible Church, where she was a member for nearly 40 years, singing in the choir, hosting missionaries and visiting preachers, helping the needy, and sharing her faith with many. Survived by her husband, Bill; daughters, Karen Morse (John Mark) Wagner, Diane Morse (Richard Clinton) Sheridan; grandchildren, Elisabeth, Benjamin, Amelia (Matthew) Gibson, Esther JoAnn and Hans William; brother, John Worden; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters. Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Greencastle Bible Church, 2940 Amanda-Northern Road NW. with Pastors Charles Flesher and Robert Mazzie officiating. Interment will follow at nearby Betzer Cemetery. Jody will be deeply missed by her church, her loving family, and her constant friends. The family would like to thank Greencastle Bible Church for their prayers, meals and concern; also the outstanding guidance, support and gentle care provided by FairHoPe Hospice of Fairfield County. We are also grateful to Valley View Nursing Home for the tender care they gave to Jody during her last days. Friends who wish may contribute to FairHope Hospice or Greencastle Bible Church in Jody's memory. Online condolences at www.spencefuneralhome.com. OBIT: From the Bedford Gazette, April 24, 1903, Page 1 [as posted to the Bedford County, PA message board at ancestry.com in Feb. 2004]

Mrs. Ellen Foor was born in Cumberland Valley on October 15, 1837, and died very suddenly at her home in Broad Top township on April 12, 1903, aged 65 years, five months and 27 days. She was the daughter of Lewis Drenning. She was married in 1857 to Cornelius Foor, of Ray's Cove, where they lived until 1873, when they moved to Broad Top township. During the time they lived at Ray's Cove Mr. Foor was engaged in farming. Since living in Broad Top he has been working most of the time as a teamster. Mrs. Foor was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother and a good neighbor, always ready to give a helping hand in time of need. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church years ago. The funeral services were conducted in the M. E. church at Coaldale by Rev. George L. Comp, of Hopewell, after which the remains were interred in the Evans cemetery near the White church. Mrs. Foor was the mother of nine children, all of whom survive her. She is survived, also, by her husband, 46 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Hers was the first death in this large family. Following are the names of her children, all of whom are married: Mack of Somerset county; Franklin, Wilson, John, Fama (wife of Wesley Swope), Myrtle (wife of W. T. Stinson), and Albert, of Six Mile Run; Mary Jane (wife of Ed. Warsing), of Hopewell, and Ross, of Robertsdale.

The following may be a story about this Laura Foor:

"About Two years ago, Miss Laura Foor, who is now lying at the point of deat at Wapello, gave a tramp something to eat. He told her that he was no common tramp and that if ever the opportunity offered itself would pay her for her kindness. Nothing was thought of it until Thursday of last week, a man presented himself at the door and asked to see the lady mentioned. He was ushred into the room where the young lady lay sick and asked her if she recognized him. She answered in the affirmative, when he lad down a half dollar, and relating the circumstances of two years before to those present, asked them to never turn away empty a man asking for bread. He took his departure leaving behind him the impression that there is more manhood abroad in the land than most people think". Published under "the city in brief".
