[23369] MAIDEN NAME: Listed as a surviving daughter, Elizabeth Ann Foor and husband Douglas, in the obituary of George Marion Cowley, Sr., born 1921 in KS died July 6, 2008 in OK. Obituary was in the The Sun, Midwest City, OK. Also listed were several eight grandchildren, and three of the names matched the children shown here for Elizabeth.

In Memory of
Elizabeth Ann Foor
December 8, 1948 - March 26, 2014
Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Foor lost her battle to cancer March 26, 2014 in Oklahoma City. Elizabeth 'Liz' was born December 8, 1948 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. She grew up in Wichita, Kansas attending Arkansas Avenue Elementary School; and in Midwest and Del City, Oklahoma where she met Douglas Foor. They fell in love and were married in 1965 in Del City. Together they traveled and lived in Illinois, Guam, San Antonio, Wichita, and settled back in Oklahoma.
Liz was a loving mother of three children and devoted her life to raising them. While in Wichita Liz became a hair stylist, a profession she enjoyed for over twenty years making lifelong friends along the way. During the warmer months Liz took to gardening, a pastime she looked forward to each year. She was also accomplished at crocheting and loved anything that included crafts. Occasionally, Liz also enjoyed camping and fishing. But most of all Liz loved spending time with her friends and family.
Holidays were an important part of Liz's life. Her children have many fond memories of the loving effort that went into making every occasion special. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. The familiar scent of a freshly baked cake was commonplace this time of year, along with festive decorations.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents George (Marion) and Doris (Bert) Cowley. Liz leaves behind husband Douglas H Foor; sister Orlena Lucille Riffe; brother George Cowley Jr.; daughters Laura Nutter, and Cheryl Myers; and son Douglas E Foor. She was blessed to have ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as many loved ones and dear friends.
A viewing will be held Monday, March 31st from 9am until 8pm as well as Tuesday from 8am until 8pm at Bill Eisenhower Northeast Funeral Home in Midwest City, OK. A service and interment will be held Saturday, April 5th at 2pm at Lakeview Funeral Home and Cemetery in Wichita, KS.

1948 - Two young men, both fathers of large families, appeared before the
court to plead guilty to various charges of burglary and larceny. Edward
William Foor and Raymond Lee Singer of Hopewell twp., both of whom have
extensive past records of law violations, were each sentenced to a total of 3
to 6 years in the Western Penitentiary. Officer Finnan told the court that on Nov. 7, 1947, it was reported to the state police that a tool shanty owned by Oscar Scitticatt in Broad top had been burglarizzed. A search of the homes of the defendents unearthed the tools. In addition, defendants admitted several other cases of taking equipment from abandoned mines, including the Garlick mine. The officer said that Foor, after his apprehension, had been helpful in breaking up a ring of thieves in the Broad Top area. Probation Officer Aldstadt told the court that Foor had served four terms of varying lengths in the industrial school and western pen. between 1927 and 1935, but appeared to have gone straight since then. The court told the defendants that they might have made themselves eligible for life terms in prison and that they could be sent up for at least 50 years. However, he pointed out that their large families would become a charge on Bedford county and no end would be served by a protracted peniteniary sentence. [Bedford Gazette, Bedford, PA., Feb.
12, 1948]

NOTE: Children noted in obituary are probably the children of Edward W. FOOR and a previous wife.

Williams May 19, 1951, in Defiance. She preceded him in death

died in childbirth with Emma, or shortly after. This is the only conclusion I could reach without further documentation into probate records.

LOCATION: 1953 - George L. Foors of Rays Cove 60 Years Wed - Mr. and Mrs. George L. Foor of Rays Cove observed their 60th wedding anniversary, Sunday, March 15, by holding open hous all afternoon and evening for their many friends and by servicing a chicken dinner for their immeediate family and a few friends. The table for the dinner was decorated with three large cakes. George L. Foor and Jennie E. Turley were united in marriage March 15, 1893 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Foor of Six Mile Run. The ceremony was performed by Squire John C. Figard. Mr. Foor engaged in coal mining until 1919 when he moved to Rays Cove on what is known as the Judge Foor farm. He engaged in farming there until he retired from active work some years ago. Mr. Foor observed his 83rd birthday November 19, 1952 and Mrs. Fooer her 77th birthday Sept. 30, 1952. To their union were born seven children, four of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Elwood Sigel of Youngstown, Ohio; Custer Foor, Everett Rt. 2; Hugh Foor of Altoona, and Clair Foor of Youngstown. They have 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. -- article continues with long list of those who attended. [Bedford Gazette, Bedford, PA, March 27, 1953]

Same page also has a mention of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Foor of Youngstown, Ohio, spending Christmas at the home of George L. Foor.

NAME/MAR: From Miami County IN Marriages

OBIT: 17 Sept 1909, The Peru Republican, Peru, Miami County, IN (sent email by Michael I. Kelly, May 2004)

"Mrs. Daniel Mussellman, of Macy, died last Friday evening very suddenly from heart disease. Her body was found in the garden probably an hour after the end came so unexpectedly.

Hannah, daughter of John and Barbara Runkle, was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, October 1, 1834. Died at her home in Macy, Indiana, September 10, 1909 aged seventy-four years, eleven months and nine days. She was the youngest of ten children(sic) and one sister, Mrs. Maria Garling, of Dunkirk, Ohio, survives her.

In the year 1854(sic), she was united in marriage with Stephen Foor, and emigrated to Allen township, Miami county, Indiana, the next year. To this union were born nine children: four sons and five daughters; the father, one son and three daughters having preceded her to the Great Beyond. The surviving children being, Mrs. William Mussellman, J.C. and F.P. Foor, of this place; L.A. Foor, of Mentone and Mrs. Merta Machlan, who sailed for Australia four weeks ago.

On April 11(sic), 1893 she was again united in marriage with Daniel Mussellman, who with the five children, one sister, nineteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, besides a large circle of neighbors and friends, are left to mourn her sudden departure.

In 1865 she became a member of the "Church of God," but in 1898 united with the Christian church at this place, proving a very faithful member. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church at Macy. Services were conducted by Rev. Lacey, of Rochester. Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery."

Buried beside first husband Stephen Foor. Dates shown are Oct. 1, 1834, to Sept 10, 1909, at 74y 11m 9d.

"Hannah [Runkle] b March 1834, M. Stephen Foor and had nine children: Martha Foor, deceased; Ezra Foor, deceased; Priscilla Foor m. William Musselman and has two boys; Sylvester Foor m. Barbara Mussleman and has two girls; Fran Foor m. Miss Doubs and has four boys; Amanda Foor m. Thompson Doubs and has three girls; Mertie Foor m. DOB: From Judy Beaty via June 2002 email. She said her source was Anita Siler of Stafford, TX. Vanessa Lou was the d/o Charles F. and Vallie Oliva Siler. She doesn't know the date of marriage to "Wade Foor". In trying to match up the correct Wade Foor, I (Shelly) replied to her with the following: "The closest match I can find is a Wade Dewey Foor, Sr., b 24 Jul 1898 in Meade Co., KY who married in 1923 to Ann McGregor Kiper. He died in Tulsa in 1946 -- Vanessa is listed as a widow in 1920, though, so it can't be the right Wade. This Wade seemed to fit, though, as there are very few FOORs who made the journey out west during that time period, and to have a Wade Foor b in KY (granddaughter Mary Lou in the above census shows her father was b in KY) seems more than coincidental." Perhaps they got a divorce; often women preferred to say they were widowed since divorce was not a good thing to be back then.

[13056] DOB/DOD/POBurial: "Cemeteries of Bloom Township, Fairfield County, OH", Fairfield Co., Ohio, Chapter OGS, 1996, p 326. Name listed as William H. Smith. Edith B. Smith is listed as wife and next of kin, as well as sons Alfred H. and Robert B.

DOB/POB: Fairfield Co., Ohio, birth records, familysearch.org. Actual images. Chas. Foster Smith (note the different name, but this individual has the exact same birthdate. Possibility it could be a twin but then where is Wm.'s birth record?), born March 28, 1883 Bloom Twp., to Alpha Smith and Mattie E. Bixler of Bloom Twp.

CENSUS: 1900 Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH - SD 11, ED 5, SH 8B, enumerated

SNAKE, Mary A., ward, b Sept 18--, 26/29y b OH, parents b OH
NOTE: William's age does not work out correctly. Being born in 1872 would
make him about 28 in 1900, not 17. The year of 1872 and the age of 17 both
seem clear on the image. I believe the correct portion of this is the age of
17, and that he was probably born in 1882. Being born in 1872 would make him
11 years older than his supposed mother.
