to the widow, now executor of the estate. The mother asks judgment in the

Now a retired farmer of Shelbyville, IL; Irvin m Mary ALLEN and moved to Shelbyville, IL; Lewis m Ellen MURRY; Henry m Mary E. STRAYER. "Henry and Lewis live upon the old home place and carry on their father's old business".

Dec. 23, 1893 issue - John Homrighouse died in Royalton, aged 85y. He was the uncle of Al. Heister of Lancaster. "Genealogical Abstracts from The Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette, V4, 1891-1895", Fairfield County Gen., Society, March 1999, p 55.

"John Homrighouse of Royalton is the second oldest undertaker in the United States. He was born in Royalton on Oct. 14, 1811. The first person he buried was a child of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Murray", "Genealogical Abstracts from The Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette, V4, 1891-1895", Fairfield County Gen., Society, March 1999, p 2.

DOB/DOD/POBurial: "Cemeteries of Amanda Township, Fairfield County, Ohio", Fairfield County Genealogical Society, April 1992, p 70. Special Note: the cemetery inscription book states he died 19 Dec 1893 at 62y 2m 5d. That works out to being born in 1831. I think the 62 years was misread, and should be 82y, which works out to being born 14 Oct 1811 -- which would agree with the text in the "PIONEER..." book as well as the statement he was the second oldest undertaker. DOB figured from death at 82y 2m 5d.

NAME: Listed as a minor heir in father's estate records.

DOB: HISTORY OF SHELBY AND MOULTRIE COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, p 312. The sketch was of John W. Homrighous, son of John Homrighous b 1811 in Fairfield Co., Ohio, and grandson of (name not mentioned) and Hannah Alspach. Both grandparents died in Fairfield county. They had 6 children, (four sons, 2 daus), and one son was John Homrighous b 1811 mentioned above. John was a cabinet maker and undertaker and married Magdalene Wagoner, a native of Fairfield Co. John and Magdalene had 5 children, one being John W. Homrighous b June 15, 1834 in Royalton, Fairfield Co., OH. December 31, 1857, he married Mary Ann, d/o Thomas Reber of Fairfield Co. They had 9 ch. They went to Shelby County, IL in October of 1860 and stopped during the winter in Holland township with his brother. This came from a bio sketch in the above mentioned book on pages about Shelby County, Prairie township.

[Ervin Homrighous's] father, John Homrighous, a prominent citizen and business man of that place, was born in that county, in the township of Bloom, Oct. 14, 1811, being a son of one of the early pioneers of that part of Ohio, John Homrighous. The latter was born in Deadenshaus, Germany, Nov. 21, 1781. Shelby and Moultrie Counties, Illinois Biographical Dictionary [database online]. Provo, Utah: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2003.
