__ | |--Henry ECKHART | |__
[T58711]
DOM/POM: FHL Batch M513353, Franklin Co., Ohio, probate marriages, 1853-1862.
Names shown as Henry Eckhart and Sarah Zangmeister.
NAME: From 30 Dec 2000 post to the Zangmeister message board at ancestry.com by Kent Carlson. "Henry ECKHARDT, was born Sep 6 1833 in Hoff-Geismar, Hesse-Cassel, Germany, son of Henry and Wilhelmina (LEGER) ECKHARDT. He married in OH in 1859 to Miss Sarah ZANGMEISTER. She died in 1862 and he married in St. Joseph to Miss Wilhelmina HUBER. She died in 1875 in Sacramento. He remarried Miss Frederika HUBER, a sister of his second wife. By the first marriage he had William and Katie. By the third he had one child, Harry."
HENRY ECKHARDT
HENRY ECKHARDT, proprietor of wholesale and retail sportsmen's supply house, Sacramento, is a native of Hoff-Geismar, Hesse-Cassel, Germany, born September 6, 1833, and son of Henry and Wilhelmina (Leger) Eckhardt. His father was a restaurant and hotel keeper. Henry Eckhardt was educated at his native place from the age of six until he was fourteen, then went to Cassel to learn the gunsmith's trade, and served an apprenticeship four years. He then traveled throughout the South German countries, and on arriving at the proper age was notified to come home to enter the military service. He was too short of stature at the time to fulfill the qualifications, and was put off until next year. In the meantime, however, he decided to emigrate to America, and on the 10th of June, 1854, he sailed from Bremen on the sailship Von Stein, and landed at New York after an ocean voyage of fifty-two days. After a brief stop at the metropolis, he went to Columbus, Ohio, and was then compelled to be laid up by sickness. He went to work when able, sometimes at his trade, and again at farming in the country. He was married while in Ohio, in 1859, to Miss Sarah Zangmeister, who died in the early part of 1862. Mr. Eckhardt went to New York City and obtained employment at government work with Moore & Bons, 303 Broadway, and he and his brother William were employed there two years thereafter. All the work done at this shop was performed by hand, and when the government got to making everything by machinery, the rush stopped, and Mr. Eckhardt went West, bringing up at St. Joseph, Missouri, where he and his brother started in business. While there he served about six months in the Home Guards. The business in St. Joseph was continued until 1870, when Mr. Eckhardt came to California and opened a shop and store in Sacramento. He has built up an extensive trade, wholesale and retail, and it has come to be known far and near that every purchaser can depend exactly on what Mr. Eckhardt tells them in regard to his goods. Such a course cannot do otherwise than lead to success, and he has been successful. His second wife, whom he married in St. Joseph, was formerly Miss Wilhelmina Huber, a native of Germany, born at Kaiserlantern, on the Rhine, and who came to this country when a young lady. She died in 1875, at Sacramento. His present wife was formerly Miss Frederika Huber, a sister of his second wife. of the first marriage there are two children, viz: William, in the gun business at Spokane Falls, and Katie. By the present marriage there is one child- Harry. Mr Eckhardt is a member of Schiller Lodge, I. O. O. F., and of Lodge No. 81, A. O. U. W. Mr. Eckhardt has made his principal business success in Sacramento, and the fact that his trade extends way up into Oregon and Washington Territory is a sufficient testimonial to his business qualifications.
"Illustrated History of Sacramento County", 1890, Lewis Publishing Co., Chicago, p 340.
IMMIGRATION: "Heinr." and "Wilh." Eckhart, ages 20 and 18, are listed on the passenger list for the Von Stein as mentioned in the above biography. Henry's occupation is listed as "tinner"? (hard to read), and Wilhelm's as a gunsmith. They had 2 chests and were from [Reurhsfin?], their destination was listed as New York. Two others from the same location were listed under their names... a Louis [Fulling?] age 18, merchant, and an Elias [Stifel?], 44y butcher. The ship Von Stein left Bremen, Germany, and arrived in NY on August 11, 1854. Ancestry.com. New York Passenger Lists [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2005. NAME/DOB: From Carolyn Obertein, 3496 Catterfield, Saginaw, MI 48601
DOB/POB: from Ann Chaltraw via Sept., 2000 email.
Daniel David Foor and Pamela Foor are listed as grantors on a mortgage in Jackson Co., MI, dated Sept. 1998, and April 2000.
Monroe News, Monroe, MI, May 18, 2005. "Muscling onto the team" -- "Dan Foor is an accomplished weight lifter and is attempting to break two world records in power lifting. He recently qualified to take part in evangelistic services hosted by Next Generation Power Team." A probation and parole officer for 18 years. Kicked the habit of using steroids to enhance his power-lifting. 6 foot tall, 260 pounds. Sett a Class B record in the shot put in 1983 while a student at Saginaw Eisenhower H.S. Attended Central Michigan University at Mount Pleasant on a track and football scholarship. He will turn 40 on July 15. "I'm a happy person," he said. "It took me 31 years to find the happiness I have. I tried to fill the void with competition and academia. I was buried in schoolwork for years. But my faith turned me around. Now I get up smiling. It's a free gift from God."
It was nine years ago - after winning the title of Mr. Central United States at the age of 31 - that he gave his heart to Jesus. He gave up steroids, alcohol and partying on weekends after that and instead dedicated himself to God and becoming a good husband to his wife, Pamela, and father to their three children, ages 3 to 15.
"I was a husband and father, so bars were no place for me," he said.
He started working out every day and became more involved in church and with youths. But adversity still followed him. In July, 1998, he was struck by Jeep Grand Cherokee while riding his motorcycle home from work in Ann Arbor.
"She didn't see me and creamed me," he said about the 17-year-old driver of the Jeep. In February 2004 he had surgery on a herniated disc followed by a full right hip replacement in October.
2007 - Surviving are three daughters, two sons and their spouses, Anna Marie
and David Chaltraw, Saginaw; William Foor III and his wife Debra, Midland;
Linda Keller, Springfield, Missouri; Kimberly and Duane Dietrich, Saginaw;
Daniel and Pamela Foor, Carleton -- from the April 2007 obituary of Mae
(Kozak) Foor.

The following from the WEHR message board at ancestry.com, posted by Derek Hartman 23 Jan 2003:
I have some more info on Susannah Elizabeth Furr's daughter, Susannah.
She married Solomon Hartman (b. 1788) in 1808 in Heidelberg, PA. They had nine children:
Solomon Hartman-1809-1883
John Hartman-1811-?
Ruben Hartman-1812-1878
Susan Hartman-1815
Jonas Hartman-1817-1895
Harmon Hartman-1819-1877
Philip Hartman-1821-1896
Ann Hartman-1824-1898
Joseph Hartman-1827-1881
According to the book "The History of St. Joseph Co., Michigan," Solomon and Susannah moved to Wayne Co., OH in 1815, then to St. Joseph Co., MI in 1829. Solomon died in 1830 and is buried in St. Joseph Co. I don't know the story, but Susannah died in 1858 and is buried in Johnson Co., Iowa, where her sons Jonas, Joseph, and possibly Ruben, relocated to. Joseph is my ggg grandfather.
