NAME/DOD/POBurial/Parentage: "Cemeteries of Bloom Township, Fairfield County, OH", Fairfield Co., Ohio, Chapter OGS, 1996, p 376. Sister Mabel was listed as a daughter of "C. L. and J. E." as is this individual, Maggie. Therefore, I believe this child is also a child of George and Jerusha. HOWEVER, for both Maggie and Mabel, their cemetery records on page 206 of same book it shows these two as children of Peter M. Faler and Lillian Benner -- yet baptismal records show Mabel as the child of George and Jerusha.

DOB/POB: names listed as Mabel Elnorah and Maggie El--rah, apparently twins,
born April 12, 1881 in Bloom Twp. to Geo. L. Faler and Jerusha E. Wagenhals

NOTE: No Peter "FELLER(S)" can be found in the area, and the only Peter of his age in the area is this Peter KELLER. However, it appears to be the correct family due to the ages and names of the children, and because the person listed before them is a Joseph KELLER (Joseph Feller, their son), and then the family listed after them is Samuel FELLER, and after Samuel, Moses FELLER. Possibly the census taker 'heard' Keller rather than Feller when jotting the info down.

"Peter Feller, a native of the Keystone State, came from Fairfield county, Ohio, [to Eagle Twp.] in the fall of 1834, with his wife, Catherine, and eleven children. He settled in Section 8, where both he and his wife passed the remainder of their days, the former dying in 1856, and the latter in 1859. Their son Joseph resides upon the old homestead". Neil Clement Foor, 93, of Midland, passed away Nov. 10, 2014. He was born July 7, 1921 to the late Harrison and Christine (Pardee) Foor in Bay City. Neil was raised in the Whittemore area, and graduated from Whittemore High School in 1939. After graduation, he attended welding school in Pontiac, and worked as a welder until he was drafted. Neil proudly served on active duty during World War II in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Neil was listed as an inventor on multiple patents. He enjoyed reading, bowling and golf in his spare time. He was a true fan of the Detroit Tigers.
On May 18, 1957, he married Earldine Enszer at First Presbyterian Church in Saginaw. They were married for 57 years and raised three daughters. In 1960, Neil and Earldine, along with a small group of families, were commissioned by First United Methodist Church to found a new congregation in Midland. They became charter members of the newly-formed Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Neil served the church for many years as a Sunday school teacher and in various board and committee positions.

Olive "Ollie" Edgett. Notes for Simon Peter: From Christian Co., IL marriage records, Vol A p 142, license # 1047- lists marriage on Aug 23, 1860. From an email from Shirley Schuldst a desc of Simon Peter's: Simon was an ordained minister in the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB)
Church in Shelbyville, Il. in 1860. He served several pastorates in general
area, mostly Macon Co. (North Il. conference) One son went to Chicago, another to California, and another to Springfield, Il. His daughters stayed in Decatur, Il. started a new church just south of Decatur, Il. m to Amanda same year as he was ordained a minister in EUB Church.

"Simon P. Hoy is now district agent for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, with headquarters at Decatur.... [He is] a native of Fairfield county, Ohio, his birth having there occurred on the 16th of June, 1837. He comes of New England ancestry. His father, Peter Hoy, was born in Pickaway county, Ohio, and there spent a portion of his early life. He was a farmer by occupation and was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He possessed considerable musical talent--a characteristic of the Hoy family-- and had a splendid voice. He died early in life, however, passing away on the 13th of August, 1837, his death being the result of a fall in crossing a stream on his return from church. He was a most devoted Christian gentleman, zealous in behalf of the church and its upbuilding, and his life was ever in harmony with his professions. Although small in stature he possessed great strength. He had married Miss Mary Stump, a daughter of Joel Stump, who removed to Ohio from Pennsylvania when a young man, first settling in Pickaway county. He spent the remainder of his life in the Buckeye state. He was a man of great moral worth, of unquestioned honor and integrity and of high ideals as to family life. He was of German lineage and was a member of the Lutheran church which was also the faith of his ancestors. His daughter, after losing her first husband, was again married in 1839 to David A. Hoy, a brother of her first husband. By him she had ten children who reached years of maturity, namely; John B., who served in the Civil war as a member of Company H., forty-first Volunteer Infantry; Joel W., who was also a defender of the Union during the Civil war for three months; Katherine E.; David W.; Jacob M.; Joshua; Albert; Mary E.; and Julia, the wife of John W. Jinks. All of the family are living. Past and present of the city of Decatur and Macon County, Illinois. Chicago: S.J. Clarke Pub. Co., 1903, pp 703-704.

Father: Samuel POWELL
Mother: Sarah ROBENAULT

INDEX

[20782] "HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY, OHIO", Warner, Beers & CO., 1886, p 776. "George W. POWELL... born in Fairfield Co., Ohio, January 11, 1826, son of Samuel and Sarah (Rabenalt) Powell, who settled in Liberty Twp., in this county, in 1834. He is one of 8 sons and 5 daughters...".

"I am the oldest of a family of twelve children. I was born January 11th, 1826, near Lithopolis, Fairfield Co., Ohio. My father's name was Samuel; and he was the oldest of Peter Powell's family. My mother's maiden name was Sarah Raubenalt. She was the tenth child of a family of eleven, and was born on the farm where I was born. Her father's name was Peter, and her mother's maiden name Barbara Knerr. Bother were born in Pennsylvania, of German parentage.

"The first eight years of my life were spent on the farm of my birth place. Many incidents of that period are still fresh in my memory, one of which I shall relate, to illustrate the freaks of childhood and the modes of farm-life at that time. In those days the period of childhood and youth was not ignored, as at present; but it was real, and was enjoyed as such by the young.

"The children were not tran[s]formed from infants to "ladies and gentleman" all at once; but they lived, were dressed, enjoyed themselves, and were treated as children until they naturally developed into men and women. The boys did not wear boots and plug hats as soon as they were able to walk. Nor did the girls wear high-heeled shoes, lace tight, and "receive company" before they were able to talk plainly, as is frequently the case at the present day.

"Well, according to the usages of that day, I wore 'petticoats' until the age of five, when I was dressed in pants and coat. Of course, I felt quite proud of my new suit, and considered myself of some importance. But it was not long till the inconvenience of dressing and undressing became very irksome, and I longed for the free and easy dress which I had a few days before laid by. One day when my mother was weaving with the loom, I implored her to dress me again in a 'coat', as I called it, for I had become utterly disgusted with pantaloons. She paid no attention to my cries, but kept on weaving; and I have been wearing pantaloons ever since, notwithstanding I am to some extent under 'petticoat' government this day.

"In the spring of 1834 my father, with his family, moved to Hancock County, Ohio, three miles south-west of Findlay, on the Lima state road, where I now reside. (There is much more written of his growing-up years)

"On Tuesday, May 4th, 1852, I was married to Mary Jane McCahan, the oldest of a family of nine children. She was born January 11, 1828, in Ross County, Ohio. Her father's name is Allen, and her mother's maiden name was Sarah Rogers, of Scotch descent. Both were born in Virginia. His father came from Ireland when young, and was afterward married to Margaret Ritchey, also of Irish descent. Mrs. McCahan's mother's maiden name was Mackey.

"A few weeks after our marriage we moved into a house which I had just built of round logs, on a spot recently cleared, in a dense forest. The roof was of clapboards, the floor of puncheons, and the chimney of sticks and mud. We had no bedsteads of yet; but with the aid of an ax and an auger I soon succeeded in constructing one that answered all practical purposes.

We have seven children -- two boys and five girls. (He goes on to list the names, dates of birth, and even the complexion and stature of each of the children). Article in book dated Sept. 27, 1879. Powell, John,. Authentic genealogical memorial history of Philip Powell of Mifflin Co., Pa.. : and his descendants and others, with miscellaneous items and incidents of interest. Dayton, Ohio: Published for the author, 1880, 287-292.

Death certificate 4242 image. George W. Powell, Liberty Twp., Hancock Co., Ohio, Jan. 31, 1916, aged 90y 0m 20d, widower, born Jan. 11, 1826 in Ohio to Samuel Powell b OH and Robinold b unknown. Informant was B. W. Powell of Stoutsville, Ohio. Buried Maple Grove Cem., Feb. 2, 1916.

John WILLIAMS Dr.

[24253]

8 Oct 1801 - 10 Aug 1879

 __
|
|--John WILLIAMS Dr.
|
|__

INDEX

[24253] "... he was a brainy, precocious boy, and a tireless student from his earliest years. In the year 1810, his parents moved to western Penn., camping out on the way. During this trip, amid all it's excitements and novelties, this boy of nine years studied and mastered Pike's Arithmetic. In the year 1814, his parents again moved, this time to Morgan County, Ohio. Here this self-instructed student continued his studies, receiving advice, encourgement and the use of a fine collection of books from Dr. Moore, a graduate of the Miami University. He made substantial progress in the study of Latin and Greek languages. At the age of 16 years he taught school; up to this time he had never entered a schoolhouse as a student. The only school that he ever did attend was for six months at the Canonsburg Academy, Western Pennsylvania... subsequently he studied medicine and graduated at the Medical College of Cincinnati, Ohio. During these years he was a diligent student... "...by the time he was 29 years of age... at this age he taught a select school in Greenfield township, Fairfield County, in the year 1803. This was the foundation of the famous Greenfield Academy, which continued for 16 years, and was closed in 1846. From 1847-1850 Dr. Williams taught a classical school in Lithopolis, Ohio.... Dr. Williams died and is buried at Lancaster. His son, Alfred, is a man of ability and fills an important position in the office of Secretary of State, Washington, D. C. The mother of General John Beatty, of Columbus, Ohio, was a WILLIAMS and a near relative of the Doctor. The Williams families, prominent people of Marion and Bellefontaine, Ohio, are relatives.
