"John Nothstine came from Northumberland county, PA, in 1810, with his wife and one child. He made a settlement and cleared a farm on section 13, owned by John Smith, his father-in-law. Mr. Smith bought 400 acres of land and gave 80 acres to each of his sex ch: John; Catharine who married John Fellows; Henry; Magdalena, who lived at home, single, until the death of her parents when she went to live on her 80 acres; Gertrude [Smith] married John Nothstine and settled upon her lot. Their children were Daniel, who died in Madison, Henry W. married Susannah Hall and now lives on section 14, Jonathan was killed by a falling tree a few weeks before the time set for his marriage; Peter married Susannah Slusher, and settled on section 13; Joseph married Caroline Plinesmith, and lives in sections thirteen and fourteen; Mary married Daniel Glick, now deceased; Tina died single, when a young woman, Susan died young, as did Jacob; Eliz died an infant", "History of Franklin and Pickaway Counties, Ohio", Williams Bros., 1880, p 353.

"John Nothstine, the grandfather, was of German extraction and the family had lived near Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania, prior to its migration to Ohio. Our subject can recall seeing the old covered wagons in which the family and its belongings were transported over the mountains to the new home in Pickaway County, where they settled in the woods and endured pioneer privations. The children of John Nothstine were: Annie, Maria, Daniel, Peter, Joseph and Henry. Maria married Daniel Glick and she lived and died in Madison township. Daniel was killed by the fall of a tree near the county line. Peter established his home in Fairfield County, where he died."
