OBIT: Bloom Tp. Man Dies in Path of Interurban - Funeral services for Arthur Hummel, aged 52, of near Carroll who fell dead on the Scioto Valley Traction tracts about a mile north of Carroll Saturday afternoon and whose body was terribly mutilated by the north bound interurban, were held at the residence this morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. W. W. Trout of Carroll officiating. Interment was made at Canal Winchester in charge of Chester Thomen, Carroll funeral director. Hummel died of apoplexy according to the verdict of Corner W. H. Eck who examed the body shortly after the traction car had passed over it, breaking the legs in numerous places; also both arms, and fracturing the skill. He was known to have been suffering from a very high blood pressure for some time. Hummel who was walking home up the Scioto Valley tracks had left Carroll shortly after three o'clock after purchasing his weekend supply of groceries. He was carrying the basket of food on his arm and dropped dead on the north side of a grade not far from Carroll, his body falling in the tracks so as to be invisible to the traction car motorman until it was too late to stop the car. Coroner Eck concluded Hummel died of apoplexy partially because there was litte or no blod found despite the badly mutilated condition of the body. He died sometime between 2 and 3:30 o'clock as it was the 3:05 car out of Lancaster that passed over him. Hummell who was a barber in Columbus for twenty years left that city about two years ago to reside upon a poultry farm near Carroll. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Cora Ford, Canal Winchester, and a brother Charles Hummell of Brice, O., and two aged aunts, Miss Minerva and Miss Nancy Hummell who reside near his home in Bloom twp. The motorman in charge of the car was J. C. Riles and the conductor Wm. Little. [Lancaster Daily Gazette, Lancaster, Ohio, 21 Jan 1929, p 1]
