OBITUARY - Died January 14, 1888
On the 14th inst., at his late residence, in Bloom Tp., Fairfield County,
Ohio, Benjamin Glick, aged 87 years, 6 months and 8 days. The deceased came
to Fairfield county with his parents in 1806, when only six years of age.
With his father's family there were four other families came from Berks
county, Pa., and settled in this same neighborhood; these were the families
of Peter Glick, John Glick, Frederick Swander, Peter Croninger and John
Woodring. Peter Glick, the father of the subject of this notice located on
the farm now owned by W. W. Glick, near Lithopolis, where he erected a small
house which still stands. The year after their arrival here, Peter Glick
died, leaving a widow and nine children to face and conquer the difficulties
of pioneer life.
In 1821, Benjamin Glick was married to Miss Anna Swander, with whom he had
six children. These children are all living - their average age, at this
time is 60 years. In 1840 he was married to Mrs. Sarah Slusser, with whom he
lived 38 years. Soon after his first marriage he moved on the farm where he
remained to the time of his death. There is perhaps not another farm in Bloom
tp. that has not changed hands within a period of 67 years. From early
manhood he was a faithful member of the church. To the full measure of his
ability he honored his Christian profession. He was honored for his
uprightness as a citizen, and loved for his kindness. During the last two
years of his life his mind failed, as the result of his extreme old age. He
knew not his own children; and the familiar scenes of 67 years had faded from
his mind. His soul was filled with the most intense longing for home, and he
earnestly begged those around to take him home. "Blessed are the homesick,
for they will all get home." On the evening of the 14th he calmly fell
asleep. His death was not the result of any bodily disease. He suffered no
pain. The candle of life had burned down into the socket, and it required
but a breath to extinguish it.
His funeral took place on Sunday the 16 inst., at 10 o'clock a.m. from the
Salem Reformed church, the service being conducted by his pastor, Rev. J.
Heffley. The text from which the discourse was preached is from Mark 5:19. "
Go home to thy friends, etc." This obit was posted on ancestry.com by Arthur
W. Holmes under the title "Brobst Family Historical Registry. He notes that
"Article found at the Auglaize County Library, date and name of paper

DOB/DOD/POBurial: "Cemeteries of Amanda Township, Fairfield County, Ohio", Fairfield County Genealogical Society, April 1992, p 70. Special Note: the cemetery inscription book states he died 19 Dec 1893 at 62y 2m 5d. That works out to being born in 1831. I think the 62 years was misread, and should be 82y, which works out to being born 14 Oct 1811 -- which would agree with the text in the "PIONEER..." book as well as the statement he was the second oldest undertaker. George Kuhlwein and his wife came to America in 1853 and first located in Columbus, Ohio, and later moved to Pickaway County, where they lived the remainder of their lives, engaged in farming, the former dying at the age of 74 in 1895 and the latter in 1896, aged 69. Mr. Kuhlwein was the father of nine children, namely : Barbara, who married Andrew Barch and resides in Harrison township; Mary, deceased; Frederick, residing on the Ashville turnpike in Harrison township, who is engaged in farming; a son that died in infancy; Matilda, deceased; William, who is engaged in farming the did homestead; George Leonard, subject of this sketch; Katie; and Edward, who also lives on the old homestead, engaged in farming. George Kuhlwein came to this country without any means, but by thrift and industry acquired by the time of his death a valuable farm of 210 acres. He and his family were members of the Lutheran Church.
George Leonard Kuhlwein was educated in the Harrison township schools, after which he engaged in farming. He has resided where he now lives for a period of nearly 18 years, and owns a very valuable farm of 82 1/2 acres, but operates in all about 185 acres. Ervin Moore has long since passed the allotted age of three score years and ten, but although he has reached the eighty-second milestone on life's journey, in spirit and interests seems vet in his prime. Canal Winchester, his present place of residence, was also his birthplace, his natal year being 1826. In the decades which have since been added to the cycle of the centuries he has been found as a progressive and representative citizen here
In the year 1845 Ervin Moore was united in marriage to Miss Mary Kramer, who was born in Canal Winchester in 1824. They became parents of a daughter, Mrs. Elmina Sarber, and two sons. John L. and Clement V. For many years after his marriage Mr. More devoted his attention to general agricultural pursuits, carefully conducting the farm work, so that his labors and management resulted in the aquirement of a good annual income derived from the sale of the large crops which came as the reward for the work bestowed upon the fields. He still owns the old homestead which was entered as a claim by his father in 1811, but is now living retired from active life, enjoying good health at the age of eighty-two years. This farm comprises one hundred and sixty acres of land and there he resided until 1888, when he romoved to Canal Winchester. In that year he purchased an interest in the Canal Winchester Bank, a private institution, in the ownership of which he is now associated with his son, Clement V. Moore, and E. B. Woods. There is a paid up capital and individual liability of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars and the bank is regarded as one of the safest financial institutions of the state.
