[T70605]
"Isaac Brandt was born near Lancaster, Fairfield Co., OH., on April 7, 1827. He was reared on a farm, and his early life was passed in much the usual manner of farmer lads.... On attaining his majority he gave his father all the money he possessed, rented a shop, and at daylight on the morning of his twenty-first birthday, might have been seen in a little room ready to begin life for himself as a shoemaker, without a cent in his pocket. The first day, Friday, he earned 75 cents, and on Saturday, one dollar; the next week he cleared 10 dollars and felt that he was on the direct road to success... he was united in marriage with Miss Harriet Wisely... In the month of May, 1850, Mr. Brandt removed with his young bride to Auburn, DeKalb County, Indiana, where he carried on the boot and shoe business. In October 1854 he was elected sheriff of DeKalb county, and served two years... in 1856 came to Iowa in company with Judge Morris of Fourt Wayne... In the fall of 1873 he was elected to the Fifteenth General Assembly of Iowa, "Ancestry.com. Chicago, Illinois and Iowa Biographical Dictionary [database online]. "David Brandt, Sr., was the father of 7 sons and 5 daughters. David Brandt, Sr., died October 27, 1851, aged 78 years. NOTE: Dorothy shows up in 1920 as the child of Jacob and Carrie FOOR, and in the 1930 census as Dorothy DALTON, child of Thomas DALTON and Lottie FOOR. Lottie is Dorothy's older sister. Parentage unknown. It seems unlikely that Jacob and Carrie would name two children Dorothy, and there's already a Dorothy Foor by this couple. Could Bruce and Dorothy, ages 6 and 4 in 1920, be children of Lottie born "out of wedlock"?

DOB/POB/DOD: AFN M0PX-4C.
On April 6, 1853, Julianna Glick filed a petition in Pickaway Co., OH, stating that her father Jacob died intestate and owned 106 acres in Walnut Twp., and she is entitled to 1/7th. The other heirs, also entitled to 1/7th, are Noah (minor), of Fairfield Co., Eliza, Sarah Ann., Loretta (minor), Joseph, and David HALL who had purchased 1/7th from David Glick. Daniel Levander of Fairfield Co., is the guardian of Noah, Loretta and Joseph. Land was sold to David Hall for $27 an acre on August 1, 1853. "Pickaway County, Ohio, Partition Records Abstracts", Pickaway Co., Historical Soc., 1996, p 67.
A tombstone in the cemetery inscription book states there's a Jacob Glick who died 12 Apr 1840, aged 3y 5m 22d. Since that's the same death date the Jacob shown above, possibly the inscription was hard to read and is more likes 35y 3m 22d which would be more accurate for the dob shown. If this is the case, then Jacob would be buried between a 5y old daughter Lydia, and his wife, though she's listed as Elizabeth Bradley, wife of James, since she married him after the apparent death of Jacob.

KILLITS, JOHN M., editor and proprietor of the Red Oak Express, Red Oak; was born October 7, 1858, in Lithopolis, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. He entered Williams College, Massachusetts, in 1876, and graduated in July, 1880. His father, Andrew Killits, of Bryson, Ohio, being in the newspaper business, the subject of this sketch, by force of circumstances was schooled in that business, and spent his early days at the printer's case. After graduating he came to Red Oak, Iowa, and bought the Red Oak Express, one of the oldest papers in the county, which he is now engaged in publishing. Mr. Killits is a young man of ability and energy and gives promise of soon ranking among the first journalists of the northwest.

1910 - There's a death listed for Mahlon King, July 7, 1910, Benton Twp., age 64. This would certainly appear to be the correct Mahlon, except he's listed as a surviving brother in sister Florence's 1926 obit. Ancestry.com. Indiana Deaths, 1882-1920 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 2004. The source of this record is the book H-17 on page 18 within the series produced by the Indiana Works Progress Administration.
1926 - listed as a surviving brother, Mahlon, in sister Florence's obituary.
NOTE: I think that Florence's obituary was not correct. I think Mahlon died in 1910, especially since in 1920 his wife, Clemmie, is listed as widowed.
