The 1880 census would indicate that wife Elizabeth was married before to a PRESSLER who was born in OH and possibly died before this census was taken. That would mean the Elizabeth in the census is not Elizabeth Kesler, and because of the large gap between the ages of children, Maud and Lloyd may be from the union of this Elizabeth and Charles, and that the mother of the other children died sometime after the birth of Luther, abt. 1861, and child Maud, abt. 1873. There is an Elizabeth who matches this description in the cemetery book.

DOB/DOD/POBurial: "Elizabeth Will, his wife, died Aug. 19, 1905, aged 64y 25d", "Cemeteries of Amanda Twp., Fairfield Co., OH", Fairfield County Gen. Soc., Chapter OGS, 1992, p 125. DOB figured from age at death.

Death: 12 Mar 1913, age 17. Julia Hoshor was born August 13, 1895, near Jefferson, Ohio, and died March 12, 1913, aged 17 years, 6 months and 29 days. She resided in or near Jefferson all her life. Her aim in this life was for the betterment of humanity. The greater part of her life was spent in the school room. She would have graduated this spring from the Canal Winchester High School. She was loyal in her studies and made many friends. She was converted at an early age and later joined the Pentecostal church of the Nazarene at Lithopolis. She remained faithful to her vows until death. Those who remain to mourn their loss are her father and mother, John C. and Sarah J. Hoshor, two sisters, Elsie and Bonnie, and three brothers, John, Jefferson and Sidney. Also a host of relatives and friends both young and old. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled, Childhood years are passing o'er us, Julia's school days now are o'er; Cares and sorrows lie before us, Hidden dangers, snares unknown. Oh, may He who meek and lowly, Trod Himself this vale of woe, Make her His and make her holy, Guard and guide us while we go. Hark! It is the Savior calling, Julia come and follow me. Jesus keep our feet from falling, Teach us all to follow Thee. Soon we part, it may be never, Never here to meet again. But we'll be in heaven forever, And the crown of life we'll gain. Sermon by Rev. L.W. Miller, of Troy, Ohio, and interment at Betzer's, March 14, 1913.
CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank our friends and neighbors for their cordial assistance and sympathy during our late irremediable bereavement, in the sickness and death of our beloved daughter and sister, Julia; and for many beautiful floral offerings. May the kindness shown us alleviate your sorrows when called to drink the bitter . God bless you, one and all. Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Hoshor and Children

[8677] Jacob's father's partition records mention him as a child. I'm assuming the Jacob which appears in the 1850 census with brother Martin and his family is this Jacob, who is shown as 29y. However, Jacob is just listed as a 'child', and Martin and Sally are listed as MINORS which would mean Jacob is OLDER than Martin.

"STEPHEN LEE, farmer, P. O. Vanlue, born July 15, 1839, in Amanda Township, Hancock Co., Ohio, is a son of Richard M. and Lydia (Wyant) Lee, natives of Fairfield County, Ohio, and who came to this county in 1828 or 1830, settling in Amanda Township, where they began pioneer life, enduring many hardships and privations to secure a home for their children. Richard M. Lee departed this life in 1854, and his widow followed him in 1882. They were parents of the following named children: Perry, Caroline (wife of D. Gilbert), John (deceased), Marion, David, Stephen, Jason and Noah. Most of these children are living in Amanda Township, this county. Stephen Lee, the subject of this sketch, married, in 1862, Mary, daughter of Joseph Carver and by her had six children: Caroline (deceased), Joseph W., Loran, Laura, Addison and Louie, the five living being with their parents. As a pioneer child Mr. Lee had but meager chances to acquire an education himself. and being a reasonable and thoughtful man he is giving his children an opportunity to profit by the educational advantages which the present day affords. Mr. Lee is a well-to-do farmer: His father left him 120 acres of land, which he sold. He then purchased of James Hughes 120 acres in the eastern part of Amanda Township, this county, a well-regulated and well-improved farm. He is a member of the United Brethren Church." Believe this "Ella C." and the "Elvina C." in the census is the same individual.

NAME: Mentioned in father's partition records as "Elvira C. Miner". See
notes on father.

According to AFN 1VD6-3dV, they had one child together: Elvira MINER. AFN info shows the same two marriages, yet it seems unusual that the second wife would name the child after his first wife??

"He had an only daughter, Elvira, who later married Charles Clark, of Vermont, an educated man, and a businessman as well, he having been connected with a firm importing lumber from Canada by the way of Lake Champlain. This marriage resulted in but one birth, a girl, Gertrude, who, when grown, became the wife of Frank Crumley the son of Isreal and Celia Crumley, the latter still living, the oldest resident of the township." Death certificate image. Elvira Converse Gregg, 55 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio, died March 18, 1914, married, aged 74y 4m 11d, born Nov. 7, 1840 in Fairfield Co., Ohio to Ervin L. Miner b VT and L. M. Converse b VT. Informant was Jos. O. Gregg of Columbus. Buried in Lithopolis March 19.

NOTE: The death certificate shows her date of birth as Nov. 7, 1840. I believe Joseph (the informant) was wrong. This year of birth does not agree with census records at all.
